WME: Burnt dunskin

Postby .Ghost. » Thu Apr 03, 2014 10:12 am

I'm quite pleased with this lady.

To try for her you have to write a short story/poem.
BUT! There's a catch, the story/poem have to contain these words somewhere; Sea, embers, pine forest, horizon, crumbling.
I'll pick the form I like the most!

Equid name: Saudade: A Portuguese word that is rather difficult to translate directly into English, but most closely means "the presence of absence" or "the love that remains when someone is gone".
Age: 4 years
Gender: Mare
Height: 12.2hh
Story/poem: Once I knew a place, a place far away
With golden sands and waves,
Waves beating a rhythmic drum on the horizon,
The ground crumbling underneath my presence; and the sea would stand;
Pure-white and glorious,
Singing tunes of swallowed ocean-bounders,
The embers of lives half-forgotten.

There is a place, I once knew,
Earth-dark shadows and sighs like water,
Writhing frog ferns and rocky hills,
Pine forests and grotesque climbing cats.

I think I knew this place, perhaps,
Of roping seas and stick-straight trees,
Golden shores and whispering frog ferns,
A place I shared with my neighbors.
Home is a place where you cannot escape;
The beating sea and the climbing cats.

And I know you were there once,
But now you aren't,
And I just cannot see my life without you,
Dear one.

So bring the beating sea and the climbing cats,
I'll soak them into my skin like I once did your love,
And maybe we can be together then, my dear one.
You and me and the climbing cats.

I come onto CS maybe once in a blue moon? So don't expect fast replies.
Pretty inactive nowadays as travelling the world keeps me pretty busy, but I'm here now and again for a yarn or even if you want a few pets? Feel free to make a one sided offer, although I retain my right to refuse or edit a trade if there is something I'd want to hold on to for memories sake.
WME herd.
Feel free to PM me if you're interested in adopting one.

Story/poem:

Embers. Their heat, their last rumbling, dying hearts of flame resting deep in the charcoal shell. Dead on the outside, but a fire blazing within.

They were leaping from the tree branches, the last crumbling towers of the pine forest. They had no salvation, the flames had devoured everything in it's path, spitting out rocks and shards of bark and the ashes of once green leaves.

I heard a scream, then realized it was my own. My hooves churned against the sand as I watched with wide, blazing eyes as the forest I had once known so well fell before me. It was gone, and it had been killed as easy as ripping paper.

The fire was not stopping, burning like the horizon at sunset. It caught onto the grass, and the dried stalks of seaweed that lay resting along the edge of the beach, their salt coats burning and shriveling in response to the awakening.

I did not move for a while, when everything stilled only to roar with a sound so ferocious it sparked life in my muscles and I ran. I ran along the white shore, feeling the heat prickle at my tail as my hooves carried me quickly yet clumsily along the shoreline. The sand turned thicker, wetter, under my frantic movements. If I stopped, I would burn.

The sea had always scared me. It's black pits of churning water and unknown objects that came up at the worst of times to slip underneath your leg or along your arm. Now, as I stood before the dark endless stretch of water, I knew what I had to do. To survive, I must topple over my fear. I always asked myself if I would be living in the next week or the next year. And I always stopped to think, what's stopping me from living my life now? So I did. It swallowed my legs and my shoulders as I plunged my courage into the cold water. I could still stand, the tips of my hooves grazing safely against the soft, shifting sand beneath me. The fire ahead had reached the edge and met it's own fate, hissing and snapping as the ocean took it's burning life away. I liked to think of the steam as the fire's soul, a soul that could no longer hurt me.

Yes, I was safe here. I was safe at home, with the seashells and the windy days and the cool sand I would walk on.

Story/poem: There once was an Equid who dreamed of going back to the sea. She loved the way the sun hit the water and the spray rolled off the waves. Playing in the water and collecting shells were two of her favorite pastimes. But lately she has been stuck deep within the pine forest leaving her with only burning embers of her memories. All she could do now was gaze at the horizon as she watched her dream of returning to the place she loved come crumbling down.

There is the sea, and there is the sky.
One that is wet, and one that is dry.
One full of waves and one full of clouds,
Merge at the horizon, water and ground.
On a crumbling cliff stands a forest of pines,
Red with the sunset, sending embers high.

Story/poem:

She is The Sea: (Free Verse By Me)
She lays before me
her rolling locks are all i can see to the horizon
she tosses her blue curls to and fro
but i mustn't stay long

Like a broken Mirror catches the suns dying rays
so does she
Sparkles of burning reds, oranges and golds
make her dress look like it is made of embers
but I cannot remain here

she smells of freshness
like a breeze that has traveled over many pine forests
her skin is cool to my touch
But she is getting too close

She claws at the crumbling floor at my feet
begging me not to leave
inviting me to step into her embrace once more
but it is far to late

I know I have to leave her
Turning my back on her watchful gaze
I hear her heaving breaths
but I cannot think to look back

She is the mistress that steals men like I
steals not their money but their very breath
she is far too dangerous to be refrained
Because she is the Sea....
