Your Opinion: Personally I don't really care about Valentines day as I have never had a reason to.
Personality: Lyr, while he is kind, never lets anyone get close to him, especially females that have an interest in him. He doesn't see the point of it all, and is doubtful that anyone can show him. Lyr is not insensitive, but he will bluntly refuse or cut off anyone that mention's love or strong feelings in that manner.
Story:
(Take's place when Lry is two years old. 3 days before Valentines day.)
Love was in the air... And Lyr couldn't be more annoyed. Already two filly's had tried to ask him to be their valentine, but he put an end to that pretty quickly. He huffed as he walked alone through the field. "I just don't understand, and I don't think I want to!"
A sweet voice came from the tall snow bank to Lyr's right, "What don't you want to understand?"
Lyr jumped at the disimbodied voice. "WHO'S THERE!?"
The voice was concerned, but still sweet. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you!" A filly about the same age as Lyr stood up out of the snow. She was a beautiful golden grulla tovero. Her eyes were a striking blue and seemed sincere. "My name is Kesali. What's yours?"
Lyr eyed the filly warily. "Lyr..." I've never seen her here before... What the heck was she doing?!
Kesali smiled and shook the snow out of her mane, "It's nice to meet you Lyr!" She looked at him as he gave her his wary look. "So, what was it that you don't understand? Maybe I can help..."
"No. You can't help." Lyr pinned his ears back in annoyance and started to walk again.
"How do you know? You won't even tell me what it is!" Kesali folllowed him.
Lyr snorted. "For one thing I don't know you, which means I don't trust you..." Why is she following me? Can't she see I want to be left alone...
"You know my name... That's a start." She walked beside Lyr, but didn't look at him. What's this guys problem? He's such a grouch! Maybe there's something I can do to help... But he won't tell me whats wrong...
Lyr glared at Kesali and then at the ground. She's persistent I'll give her that. "What were you doing back there?"
Kesali stuck he nose in the air dramatically, "I don't know you, so why should I trust you?"
A slight smile crossed Lyr's face and a light huff of a laugh.
Kesali smiled, "I was looking for something."
"Can I ask?"
"I don't know can you?"
Lyr was slowly starting to get annoyed again. "I haven't seen you before, and it's not neccisarily a good idea for a loner to be around a herd. Even if that loner is a filly." He kept his gaze forward.
Kesali glanced over at this strange colt. "I was looking for a gift to give someone for valentines day, and this was the only place I knew to find what I needed."
Lyr snorted, "Valentines day is a joke! It's pointless. I don't understand why anyone would ever..."
"So that's what you were talking about!" Kesali cut him off. "It's not pointless. It's a way of showing someone who you care about how you feel."
"Hmph. So I've been told." He glanced at Kesali. "You obviously are one of those who celebrates it. You would be better off leaving the guy alone in a snow bank than trying to find a gift. Most likely he'll abandon you as everyone eventually does after valentines."
"He would never..."
"It's always the same. I saw it happen more than once and there's no changing it..." Lyr looked to see that Kesali had dissapeared. What the? Where did she go?
(2 days later)
Lyr ran as fast as he could. I think I may have been a little too blunt with the lead stallion's daughter... An angry stallion and several other's chased him through the frozen woods. Huffing Lyr recognized the sign's of another herd. He looked for a way to escape, but the only way was to go forward towards the other herd.
The groups chased Lyr into a snowy field. The other herd immediatly raised the alarm to the intruders. Withen a matter of a few minutes Lyr and the horses that had been chasing him were surounded. Well... I'm dead for certain now...
A red dun stallion emerged from the herd. "What is the meaning of this!? You are trespassing! I expected more from you." He stared down the lead stallion from Lyr's herd.
"My pardons Falcon, but we were mearly trying to punish that colt for insulting my daughter."
"I turned her down, I didn't insult her!" Lyr pinned his ears and glared at the two stallions. Ah, maybe that wasn't the best idea...
Falcon eyed Lyr. Then turned to another stallion. "Phantom escort them back to their herd."
Lyr reluctantly began to follow.
"Not you!" Falcon stood in Lyr's way. "You're staying here."
"What? Why?" Lyr was frightened. Yup. I'm dead... Wait... Was that?
Kesali walked past the horses being escorted away and smiled at them. She walked over to stand next to Falcon.
"Kesali?"
Falcon looked between the two young horses, "This is the colt that hate's Valentines Day?" He looked at Lyr.
Lyr was confused, but releaved to see that Falcon didn't seem to want to kill him. "It's a joke..."
Falcon whispered with Kesali for a few minutes. "Well, Lyr, you are welcome to stay here..."
(The next day - Valentines Day)
Lyr watched the new herd from the tree line. "Ugh. Valentines day..." He watched as the day unfolded. At around noon he noticed Falcon with several others.
Kesali stood amoungst the small group. She happily gave Falcon a golden feather.
Lyr watched in awe... "So she was finding a gift for him..."
After the sun had set and the moon hung in the sky the northern lights danced. Couples stood and watched the beautiful light. Lyr, however, shuffled through the snow ready for the day to end. He was startled when he found himself only a few feet from where Kesali was watching.
Kesali glanced to Lyr and then back to the sky. "They're beautiful..."
Lyr hesitated and look up at the sky. "I suppose..." He sighed.
"What seems to be the matter?" Falcon walked to the otherside of Lyr.
Lyr jumped. What is it with these two? They're just alike...
Falcon chuckled, "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you."
Almost exactly alike...
Kesali smiled, "I think Lyr's just taking it all in..." She looked at Falcon. "Is mother feeling better?"
Falcon nodded, "Yes, she wanted me to tell you that she said thank you for the feather." He smiled. "It made her day."
"Wait, he's your father?" Lyr was now throughly confused. Well it makes sense how much they are alike...
They both laughed. "Of course he's my father!" Kesali looked back up at the sky.
Lyr looked up Hmm... I could get used to this... He looked to see both Falcon and Kesali gone. ... Maybe not...
(1 year later)
Lyr stood at the top of the hill. He looked up at the northern lights. The world around him was quite except for the muffled words of couples scattered throuout the clearing.
"Just as beautiful as last year!"
Lyr jumped slightly. He looked at Kesali who was standing right next to him. "I don't think I'll ever get used to that..."
Kesali smiled apologetically. "Sorry."
Lyr smiled, "Don't be..." He looked back up to the sky.
"What do you think of the lights Lyr? Are they the same as last year?" She looked up at the sky.
Lyr looked at Kesali and then up to the sky. "No... They are more beautiful this year..." His eyes met Keasli's ,"Thank you Kesali..."
She gave him a sweet smile, and brushed her muzzle against his. Kesali dissappeared again before Lyr could process what had happened.
Lyr stared at where Kesali had just been. How does she do that? He looked back up at the sky. His heart was warm and he was happy. I'll never understand it, and I don't think I want to... He smiled as time seemed to stand still on this valentines day...
Extra: His name is actually derived from a character/name from a game called Dragon Age 2. The character his name come's from is Fenris (A ex-slave warrior elf), but more specfically the markings Fenris had been tattood with. His tattoos were made of Lyrium (hence Lyr) and it is extreamly painful, an never ending pain if you will. Fenris is one of my favorite characters in the game, and in my tired state was the first thing that came to mind XD
