The butterflies were always there, in her meadow, mocking her! What gave those colorful little annoyances the right?! No one, that's who! But who would fight off these vicious invaders? Surely not herself, oh no definitely not darling little Nina. She was the picture of sweetness and kindness. Everyone always said she was so cute, so adorable, so little and tiny and girly and...well, a lot of stuff she sure didn't want to be!
Nina lay down in the cool grass and narrowed her eyes. It was time for her to be whatever she wanted! And right now she wanted to cleanse her meadow of the ugly invaders. Her tail wiggled slightly as she concentrated harder than she ever had before, her eyes sharp with determination. She'd rid her meaow of these stinky butterflies if it was the last thing she ever did!
Her eyes locked on a particularly evil one, its wings a gross combination of orange and black. She slowly rose up just the slightest bit before she pounced, snarling and growling as she hit the ground. Joyous howls escaped her throat before she looked up to see that evil horrible butterfly. Nina was absolutely and positively crushed, unlike that foul invader.
Big fat tears rolled down her cheeks as she began to sob. How could this have gone so wrong?! Nina's tiny body shook violently as she cried. She'd never been so sad before...definitely not last week when she lost her teddy bear, no way. This was a whole new kind of sorrow she'd never experienced before. It was failure. She was failure. Little Nina laid on the grass, blubbering uncontrollably, long into the night...
Nina had dreamed of absolutely nothing at all helpful or even slightly related to butterflies, but she was absolutely positive that her dream about monkeys was a sign. However since she didn't actually have any monkeys, the dream was useless and she had no idea what to do. After all, she’d already tried once! What was she supposed to do now? Try again? Who does that?! Nina stayed in her spot on the grass, pouting and whimpering. Someone would have to hear her and come help, right?
Wrong. She had been very very wrong. After a whole morning of the best whining she could muster, not a single person even noticed her! But those big stupid butterflies had spent that whole time mocking her! They flew around with their dumb wings, laughing and laughing and laughing. They were gossiping about her as they danced on her flowers, eager to upset her as much as they possibly could.
Nina's need for vengeance skyrocketed and she knew she had to try again, even though she'd already tried before. But this time...this time she'd be prepared...for war! She disappeared into the forest, out of the enemy's line of sight, and spent the rest of the day collecting twigs, leaves, roots, and rocks. She even managed to get her hands on some tape and glue. After she'd hoarded enough supplies, Nina went to work gluing and taping 'armor' to her fur and fashioning herself a sword made of twigs.
As night fell the little purple bean made her way back to her meadow, a new determination in her eyes. The butterflies were still all over her flowers, flying in her air, mocking the very owner of this meadow! Without a second thought Nina began running through the meadow, screaming and hollering as she wildly flung her sword around. By the time she stopped to breath all of her flowers had been crushed, but many wings littered the ground.
Victory was her's!!! Nina rolled around in the grass, shoving wings into her mouth in celebration. She'd defeated those evil invaders! Her meadow was safe once more, free of ugly butterflies! As Nina's eyes closed she saw her mother approaching, murmuring something about her ridiculous daughter being a mess again. The only ridiculous thing about the situation was that she didn't care about Nina's brave battles!
