Papyllon wrote:Papyllon looked over at his new mom and dad as he entered his new home with his sister close beside him. He stood for a moment, absorbing his new surroundings. When it all sank in, he donned a game face and went off to find the perfect bedroom to fit his needs. Something that was nice, roomy, with lots of places to put things, and a nice sized bed.
The first bedroom he came to was HUGE with an enormous bed, eagerly, he lifted a foreleg and pointed at the room, "I'm calling this one!"
Chry wrote:Chry laughed, coming over to Papyllon and ruffled the fur on the top of his cute little head.
"I know how much you want really large room after being cooped up in the orphanage, but I'm afraid this particular room is mine and Pyro's," she explained gently to Papyllon. "But I promise that the other rooms are just as good though," she told him, smiling at him, looking over at Pyro, flashing him a smile too and a wink.
Papyllon wrote:"Okay," Papyllon replied, excited again; determined to find the perfect bedroom and claim it for his own before his sister had a chance to snatch it from him.
Peering into one of the rooms, he saw his sister already comfortable in the room, which was decorated with girly stuff, his face instinctively contorted in distaste. His sister could keep this room.
Going to the room next door, he found a paradise of toys, video games, and other cool things that only a boy like him could truly enjoy.
"This room mine! It's all mine!" He hollered, excitedly dashing inside. No one was taking this room from him.
Chry wrote:Chry chuckled with Pyro, looking over at him; she smiled, snuggled up beside him and then laid her head on his shoulder, letting out a sigh of contentment and relief.
"I'm glad we had that idea to prepare their rooms' before-hand, they seem to love them," she stated, turning her head to give Pyro a kiss.
Pyro wrote:"I agree,” Pyro replied, kissing her atop her head, smiling as he watched Papyllon rush back to his new bedroom and Kallyma playing with her new toys. He was certain their lives would change in a wonderful way because of these two.
Papyllon wrote:Papyllon was in the middle of examining his room's contents when something hit him; he dropped what he had and ran out of his room to rush over to Chry and hugged her fiercely, but gently.
"Thank you," he said, burying his face in her long, thick fur. "Thank you so much."
Chry wrote:Chry looked over at Pyro and smiled, her heart melted further as she hugged him back.
"You're welcome dear,"
Papyllon wrote:"I love you mum," Papyllon told her, nuzzling her before going over to Pyro and giving him a hug too. "Love you too dad."
Stepping back, he beamed up at them, and then dashed off back to his room to continue exploring his new bedroom, eager to play with the fun new toys that he’d discovered in there. It wasn't long before his sister came over and did the same.
Chry wrote:Chry exchanged a look with Pyro, smiled at him, then kissed him.
"I look forward to the years to come with these two and sharing them all with you," she told him, nuzzling him affectionately. “Adopting them is probably one of the best ideas ever.”

Our siblings push buttons that cast us in roles we felt sure we had let go of long ago - the baby, the peacekeeper, the caretaker, the avoider.... It doesn't seem to matter how much time has elapsed or how far we've traveled. ~Jane Mersky Leder

Kallyma::
The wind blew softly among the treetops of the forest, like a faint whisper calling her name. Bright glows of blue daylight streaking in the tiny gaps that shone through the piles of leaves that cluttered in piles on the trees. Kallyma shook her fuzzy ears as a few leaves landed on her head as a strong gust blew in on the bottom of the forest floor. She looked around, admiring the bright colours of nature surrounding her and her brother. She lowered her head as she padded up to the other beans. "Are we there yet?" She whined, picking up her pace to match theirs.
Chry::
The older bean chuckled, continuing to walk. "Patience Kallyma - you'll scare the birds away," she replied; keeping her head focused on the path. "We're nearly there."
Kallyma::
She dragged her tail along the forest grass as she huffed, "But you keep saying that!" She examined. "Where are you taking us anyway?"
Pyro::
Pyro stayed silent for a moment before replying. "... It's a surprise", he said, a slight cheesy smirk on his face as he looked at Chry. “Chry wanted me to take you to this place; we thought it’d be special if you two saw it."
Papyllon::
"Mama, you never told us about 'this' place before... Have you been there before?" Papyllon asked, trotting up beside Kallyma.
Chry::
Chry nodded her head and smiled. "Once before, but that was a long time ago... when I was just a young bean like you", she said.
Pyro::
"I've been here once before", he suddenly butted in as he whipped his head to the sides, making sure that nothing dangerous was lurking around. He padded up to Chry, nuzzling his head in her long, soft mane.
Kallyma::
"Well, wherever this place is, it sure is a long way from home and my paws feel like stones", she complained playfully.
Papyllon::
Papyllon rolled his eyes as he grinned. "Tired? Pffft, shows I'm way stronger than you. Proves I can go anywhere, anytime", he stated cheekily.
Kallyma::
Kallyma whipped her head around and frowned. "Nah-ah! I'll show you how strong I am!" She replied. With that, Kallyma jumped on her brother, knocking him down in the damp dirt and leaves. Papyllon fell to the ground with a slight grunt. "Ha! Who's strongest now?" Papyllon wiggled, trying to get out of his position. Suddenly, Kallyma felt a strong pair of back legs push her over. They tumbled over, starting to playfully pulling on their tails and ears. "I win", she exclaimed happily.
Papyllon:: He pushed her off as he got up and shook himself. "That's not fair! I wasn't ready!"
Pyro::
"Alright, alright, that's enough you two," he said, he pushing his way between the two.
Kallyma::
Kallyma rolled her eyes and huffed. Suddenly, a growling colour caught the corner of her eye. She looked at it and smiled, trotting over, smiling as bright flowers popped up from the soil. It was like they were lighting up the darkest part of the forest with their beauty. Behind her, the rest of the family had walked over to where she was.
"Wow! They’re so pretty!" She exclaimed with admiration.
Pyro::
Chuckling softly, and then sighing. "Ah, indeed they are." He observed. "But, even the prettiest of flowers die one day. It's one of nature's ways of teaching us that nothing last forever. It may seem like a long time, but everything must come to an end. That's why we must enjoy life as it is." With that, he wrapped his tail around the orphans and snuggled close to Chry, giving them a big, family hug.
Kallyma::
She nodded her head and smiled. She loved her family, even though they were adopted. She picked a single flower out of the bundle and plopped it on Chry's head. She smiled at her and she gave a small hug in return.
Pyro::
Pyro smiled as he peered toward the faint light that shone at the end of the path. He turned his head back to the twins and grinned. "Now... I'll show you who's the strongest when I get to the finish line first!" He gestured just as he took off, running towards the light.
Kallyma::
Kallyma took off in an instant - trying to catch up with her father, who had now raced ahead of her. She bounded as fast as she could to catch up with the rest of them. Every paw-step she took gained her distance closer and closer towards the two; soon being hard on their paws. She smiled greedy as she overtook him and laughed. She heard minor shouts of annoyance from the other beans as she stormed ahead towards the light. Kallyma squinted as she ran through the gap, puffed and panted as she watched the others catch up. "Shows girls are stronger... and faster!" She giggled while bouncing around the tired beans.
Pyro::
Wheezing a last tired puff of breath as he looked up and smiled, "We're finally here," he stated, smiling.

Arietti wrote:Arietti couldn't sit still. It was another adoption day, another couple would waltz in and evaluate her to see if she fit into their perfect little family. She didn't know if she dreaded or prayed for a new family. As she sat on the top bunk, feet propped against the wall her eyes drifted over to the large wooden door. Hearing the knock of the caretaker I rolled over onto my side and waited for the fun to begin.
Cupcake wrote:Cupcake stared hard at the building in front of her. It was not unlike the structures that surrounded it, though the crowd that separated her from it made the adoption agency stand out.
Suddenly the doors to the center opened and people began to file in. Her attention was quickly grasped by an employee welcoming and explaining how things went. Cupcake half listened. When they were allowed to roam, she wandered down the hall. Finally she paused in front of one, a certain quality listed on the white paper catching her eye. She leaned forward and read.
"....enjoys stories, particularly romance ones..."
Cautiously, Cupcake peered inside the room. "Hello...?" She said when she spotted a child sitting on the top level of a bunk bed. "You like stories?" She asked with a slight tilt to her head. Cupcake gave one last wary look at the child before entering the room.
Arietti wrote:The moment the lady walked into the room her ears perked up, eyes widening ever so slightly. What interested Arietti was that no one else followed after her. Curious she sat up. Half shocked, it took her a moment to realize that she had asked a question and even a moment more to gather the courage to answer her. "Y-yes, stories are w-wonderful." She spoke gently, almost at a whisper, head still tilted to the side.
Cupcake wrote:She took in the bright pink, deep black, and stark white of the kid's fur and then the mossy green eyes. She looked about seven and seemed to be a bit shy, soft-spoken. Overall she seemed to be a cute, timid kid. Cupcake liked that. "You like love stories." She said, this time not questioning. "What is your favorite, if you don't mind me asking?" Her tone was light, yet somewhat to-the-point.
Arietti wrote:Meekly the young bean reached into her pouch as the older female directed a statement at her and pulled out a long slim wand. It was one of the stereotypical ones you would find at any magic shop, dull back with either end painted white, however it looked very worn. "L-love stories are very p-pretty, yes." She retorted back, large green eyes moving up the other's body to her own eyes. "I like the story of Rio, about the two b-birds ... its r-really cute!" Arietti answered. Taking a hesitant breath she put on a small smile and extended her little hand, "I'm Arietti." I introduced myself for the first time. Like her brother she didn't talk to many of the Beans that came to interview with.
Cupcake wrote:Cupcake, per usual, had completely forgotten to introduce herself. "I'm Cupcake. Nice to meet you." After releasing Arietti's hand. She paused. "You like magic too?" She asked. "That looks like it could conjure up all sorts of tricky things." The bean added with a smile. "Well, I've never seen Rio through-and-through. I liked how some of them spoke another language though." She tinkered with the goggles atop her head, unsure about what she should say next. "I could tell you a story." She suggested.
Arietti wrote:A bright smile flashed across Arietti's face as Cupcake mentioned the powers in her wand. She pointed at her with the tip of wand, waving it in a small circle. "Of course it can! This is only the most special a-and powerful wand in all the land!" She happily gushed. "If you take me home, we'll certainly have to see it!" were the next words out of her mouth before she could catch myself ... what if this lady was only being nice ... was if she decided she didn't want to take me home ... or what if she lived far away from my brother? Those questions sombered her right up. When Cupcake mentioned telling a story however, Arietti couldn't help but look up hopefully. A story would be nice ... "I-i'd really like t-that."
Cupcake wrote:Cupcake's expression went from vaguely unsure to amused as she watched Ariette wave the wand around. Even after the girl's words about being taken home, the smile remained on her face, though once again uncertainty swam in her stormy gaze. She ran a hand through her hair and sat on the lower bunk of the bed heavily. She patted the place next to her. "Come on, sit down. I'll tell you a story." She paused briefly. "...Most of them I know are in other languages, so their translations might be a bit odd...but I think you'll enjoy the one I have in mind. It has magic in it." Her smile now was soft and her tone was, despite still somewhat matter-of-fact.
Arietti wrote:She perked back up when the older Bean sat down on the bed and patted the spot next to her, beckoning Arietti over. As Cupcake spoke the pink and black bean couldn't help be curious, this lady knew other languages? Lost in her thoughts it took Areitti a moment to realize that Cupcake had said the story involved magic and quite suddenly she was clinging to the other's arm. "Oh please do tell it t-to me then!" I gushed.
Cupcake wrote:Cupcake hesitated when Ariette grabbed her arm, but after a second she reached out and patted the kid's head. "Okay. This story is from a book I read that was mostly written in German. The book is called Leviathan." She explained. "The two main characters are a boy and a girl. The boy is a prince of Austria, and the girl is a common person from Scotland. Do you know where those two places are?"
Arietti wrote:As soon as Cupcake patted her head Arietti seemed to settle down once more, scooting back against the wall and pulling her knees up to her chest, wide eyes watching the older Bean as she waited for her to begin telling the story. Smiling softly to herself as Cupcake began to speak the pink and black youngster shook her head at the question. The two places mention were completely unknown to her.
Cupcake wrote:"They are countries in Europe. This story takes place a hundred years ago, during the first world war. The world at this time is split into two different groups: the..." Cupcake paused, searching for a translation. "...Clankers...and the other were the Darwinist. Clankers used machines to do everything. They had giant creations called 'Walkers' that they used in battle, sort of like tanks on legs. Darwinists used animals. Not just dogs and cats, but all sorts of genetically altered beasts." Cupcake grinned. "The prince of Austria-Hungry was named Alek. His parents were killed and he had to flee the country or else he would be killed too! So he ran away in his walker with a few men. They traveled a long distance and eventually came to a snowy country that was neutral in the war." Her eyes danced as she told the story and her hands swept around in front of her, giving the tale more life. "Coincidentally, Deryn, a Scottish girl in the English army who was pretending to be a boy by the name of 'Dylan', had been on a giant whale skyship when it crashed in that very same area..."
Cupcake continued telling the story, her voice changing to mimic the boy Alec's German accent and the girl Deryn's Scottish lilt. She told of their many misadventures that took place all over the world. From Europe to Japan to the States they flew, ending up somewhere in the States.
"And the two kids, who had fallen in love somewhere along the way, decided to be together. It was a difficult decision; Alec had to give up a lot in order to be with Deryn, and she in turn had to work out how to continue to make the military think she was a lad or else she could be thrown in jail. But they did it. They worked it out and were able to live their life in love." Cupcake ended the story with a grin. "How was that?"
Arietti wrote:Arietti listened to Cupcake's velvet like voice with such attention that she didn't notice the way the sun had dipped down to cast a faint orange glow across the room. She was entirely absorbed into the story. By the end, when the older bean explained the two where able to live in peace and love a few tears of joy rolled down her cheek. "T-that was w-wonderf-ful!" she managed to respond, her stutter become worse through her hiccuped attempt to stop crying.
Cupcake wrote:The little dragon's tears surprised Cupcake. It took her a minute to smile, amused, and pat Arietti's head. The kid's reaction was adorable, though she would never admit it. "I'm glad you liked it. I have a lot of books and other stories..." She trailed off, almost looking sad. "I bet you'd love to hear them, wouldn't you?"
Arietti wrote:Arietti couldn't help but lean into the soft pat on her head and Cupcake rubbed her hand over the young girl's ears. The small pink and black bean nodded vigorously at the older's question. "I-i would love nothing more!" she responded, her voice taking on the slightly high pitch of excitement.
Cupcake wrote:Cupcake closed her eyes and took a deep breath. "I could take you home with me and read them all to you." She said. She wasn't quite sure where the words she said had come from, but they kept flowing out. "And teach you all the different languages so you could read them too. Maybe not German though...their stories are often not child-friendly..."
Arietti wrote:The bean's eyes widened even more as words began to tumble out of Cupcake's mouth, an ear splitting grin stretching across her muzzle as her ears drank in the sound of her voice. Arietti just sat there for a moment, dumbfounded slightly at what the words seemed to imply. C-cupcake ... I would b-be the happiest b-bean on Earth to g-go home with you!"
Cupcake wrote:Cupcake cracked open one gray eye and then at the little bean's expression she laughed. Arietti looked so happy and surprised. She herself was pretty shocked too. A smile appeared on her face and she stood, bringing the kid with her. "Okay, but only on one condition. You must work hard to master the languages I teach you and annoy my little brother by using them regularly." She said.
Arietti wrote:Upon hearing Cupcake's condition the young bean gave her this look, her wand pointed at the older bean and one eyebrow raised, like Are you kidding me? What use is other languages if I can't use them on others? like DUH! "I promise he shall never heard English out of my lips once I learn them!"
Cupcake wrote:"That's what I likes to hear." Cupcake said. She reached down and grasped Arietti's hand. "So...lets go find out what I have to do and we'll go home."
Arietti wrote:Arietti looked up at her new mother with a smile on her lips and chuckled slightly. Slowly the little bean reached up with her hand and grasped Cupcake's, leading her out the door to the room she had known for two years and down the hall to the frint office, ready to start her new life.
