"Are you sure about this?"
Ari sighed. Reaching up behind her head, she tied her luminous hair up with a ribbon. Cold, excited sweat beaded under her lips.
"Yes, I'm sure," she replied for what felt like the hundredth time. "Trust me, this is going to be fun."
For a heartbeat, Ari closed her eyes, breathing in the cool, nighttime forest air. This was going to be fun. What could be better than spending the night outside in the middle of a forest clearing with nobody but her twin brother and the moon and stars?
"Honestly, you can be such a party pooper," she remarked to her brother, glaring at him for a second while she settled down on the moon-bathed cool grass. She ran her hand through the dew laden blades, letting out another sigh as she looked all around her, gazing upon the tall, guardian-like trees all around them.
"I am not a party pooper!" protested her brother indignantly, padding up and settling himself beside his sister on the grass. He leaned his back against a nearby tree, but deciding against it, he merely settled himself lying on his back on the grass. Following his example, Ari leaned back also and fell back into the soothing green blades.
"Alright," she finally replied, laughing teasingly. "You're not a party pooper." She paused, then looked over at him slyly. Her eyes narrowing teasingly and a smile spreading slowly over her face. "But in my opinion, you're still a little odd."
At this, her brother bolted upward and stared down at his sister in mock aggression. "Say that one more time," he chortled, his eyes brimming with amusement.
Ari smirked. "You're very odd," she drawled out slowly. With a roar that came out as more of a squeak, he launched himself at her and they rolled locked together across the grass, laughing and growling and shrieking in fun.
Ari pushed against his face, squishing his cheek upwards, and she choked out a laugh at his ridiculous expression. He twitched his ear in annoyance and rolled her over so that she was pinned to the ground under his greater weight, and she wriggled under his paws, trying to slip out of his grasp like she usually did. He knew her too well though, and planted his paws more firmly on her shoulders. "Ha!" he cried, triumphant, and Ari, gazed up at him grinning. "All right, all right," she laughed. "You win. Now get off of me!"
Obediently, he stepped back, and Ari scrabbled to her paws, brushing off bits of grass and leaves.

A number of hours had passed. The moon had passed almost completely across the sky. Slowly, Ari and her brother were making their way home, treading slowly as exhaustion weighted down their paws. They had spent almost the entire night romping and laughing and running through the woods. Luckily this forest was near to their home so they didn't need to walk far.
Finally, their house came into view in the distance, light from the windows providing a landmark to follow.
"Wait, Ari," called her brother from behind her. She turned to see him sitting in a ruffled head on the grass, panting, his eyes half closed. "I'm too tired to walk anymore. Can we take a break?" Without waiting for a reply, he flopped backwards so that he was gazing up at the stars once more.
Ari just gazed at him for a moment, her own feet feeling as if they were made of lead, until she too padded over to him and lay down on her back beside him. In silence, they looked up at the glimmering stars, simply enjoying each other's company.
suddenly, something caught Ari's eye. Her head turned sharply, and she stared into the woods on her left. Her eyes narrowed, and then widened in delight once she saw what it was.
"Hey, look!" She whispered into her brother's ear, giving him a nudge. "What?" he asked, and then turned to see what she was pointing at and he too gasped in surprise.
Hovering not far away was a firefly.
But not just one.
Presently a whole swarm of tiny glittering yellow orbs winked into the clearing.
Slowly, they drifted toward the two kiamaras.
Entranced, the siblings sat up and stared in wonder at the approaching lightning bugs as they swirled around them and filled the air with a golden, bright light. As the fireflies enveloped them, Ari stared in wonder at her brother, her eyes round and shining. Her brother's face reflected her astonishment. "This is amazing!" Ari breathed, quietly so as not to disturb the beautiful creatures.
Suddenly she felt overwhelmed with the urge to sleep. The gently dancing lights of the fireflies, the comforting presence of her brother, and the gentle brightness of the moon above had made Ari drowsy. Slowly, she lowered herself and sank back into the grass. Her brother did the same.
"Yes," Ari murmured. "This is nice." Her brother nodded, a smile creeping onto his face.
Before they both drifted into sleep, however, Ari managed to say one more thing.
"See?" she laughed quietly, just as her eyes were closing. "I told you this was gonna be fun."
