What do you like about the piece?: Well, out of the art movements, post impressionism would have to be one my favorites. It was painted in June 1889, and depicts the view outside of Vincent's sanitarium room window at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence during the night.

Realism in the arts may be generally defined as the attempt to represent subject matter truthfully, without artificiality and avoiding artistic conventions, implausible, exotic and supernatural elements. The term originated in the 19th century, and was used to describe the work of Gustave Courbet and a group of painters who rejected idealization, focusing instead on everyday life.
I chose this movement because I prefer realistic art to stylized forms; and I like the concept of trying to stay true to the subject.

What do you like about the piece?: I personally like the soft colours and textures; it makes the day seem foggy and not too bright. The entire scene looks like a regular day out working in the field, not glorified at all. It has a satisfying, rugged look about it.

Something about your chosen Art Movement: Furutism originated in Italy in the 20th Century, and emphasized speculation on things that could come to be in the future dealing with technology, youth and violence, and new ways of transportation.
Piece from Movement: Abstract Speed + Sound 1913-1914
What do you like about the piece?: I personally love visually learning about what people from the past speculated about when thinking of the future, and while this particular piece is more abstract, it sort of conveys a message of speed with the sharp curving edges, and it was a really well educated guess with how things were starting to tumble. Even back then everyone was trying to find new and better ways to be more efficient, to get more done faster, to get places using as little resources as possible, as fast as they can. I really like that this piece fits so well with what is happening today, even though it was created so long ago.

Something about your chosen Art Movement: This painting, the Cliffs at Etretat, was painted with oil on canvas. The painting, opposed to others made in this era, focuses our eyes on the cliffs, rather than just using the cliffs as a background. It uses light and shadow to give a three dimensional feel.

What do you like about the piece?: This piece caught my eye. It, to me, seems to match this WME's colors. I love the color and shading of this piece and the focus on, not a person or a plant, but a solid rock wall. I have never been to Etretat and seen these cliffs, but this makes me feel as if I have.

Something about your chosen Art Movement: Art Deco is a movement that began after World War I featuring simple shapes that have a stream lined appearance combined with rich colours.

What do you like about the piece?: While I could probably go on for a while about the artwork that is this building, what I like most is that it can look different based on what time you look at it (eg. sunset, night, etc.) or even from where you view it or the angle you view it at. No matter how or what time it's viewed, though, it still looks stunning (at least in my opinion it does).
