Qannik bounded playfully through the snow. He loved the feeling of the cool, crisp air, and the snowflakes landing lightly on his nose. Qannik shook his head and whinnied happily. He may have been a teen, but when the snowflakes were dancing about he acted like a foal. Qannik ran through the falling snowflakes, chasing them and catching them on his tongue. When he reached the pond, he paused for a moment to test the ice. It felt solid as a rock. He carefully stepped onto it, but immediately fell and slid across the pond. Digging his hooves into the ice, Qannik was able to stand up on wobbly legs. He skated around on the ice every year, but every year he had to wait patiently as his legs adjusted to the slippery feeling of ice beneath his hooves. When he could stand without falling, Qannik proceeded to skate around joyfully. While he was doing so, he spotted a foal, born this spring, standing near the ice watching him. The foal stepped onto the ice, but slipped and fell. Qannik skated over, nudging the foal back up onto his legs. The foal collapsed again, as his legs slid out from under him. Qannik helped him up again and again, and each time the foal stood a little longer. Finally, when Qannik was certain the foal was ready, he gave him a push. The foal skated out across the pond, without following. The foal whinnied joyfully, and Qannik whinnied as well, skating after the foal. Winter was Qannik's favorite time of year.
