detailed short story [600 words max] about a battle with a shark:
(Anthro version)
I walked casually along the dock. Old and new boats filled the shallow sea, the strong waves crashed upon them. My mane was flowing with the wind, I zipped up my jacket and lifted the hood over my head. As I walked along to the end of the dock, I pulled out a small picture form my back pocket. It was a picture of my daughter and my wife. I exhaled and tucked the picture back in my pocket, remembering them always hurt me. It had been a year since they passed away and I always keep their picture on me. I closed my eyes and folded my arms.
"Katty! Are you out there?!" I heard someone call. I grinned my teeth together, Katty was the name my wife called me, and when people spoke it I got mad. "Yeah I'm comin'!" I answered back. I raced back to the boat shed where I worked. "What is it?" I asked as the guy raced around the room. "A massive sharks been spotted on the Coast, it needs to be perminately removed". I inhaled " Have there been any deaths?" I asked clutching my throat slightly. The guy turned to me " 3 have died" I closed my eyes as growled slightly, my whole body tensed. "I'll go" I stated. The guy looked at me wide eyed "you can't go today, the storms to strong!". I walked past him to the keys for the boats, I took a pair and reached for the door. "Katty, you can't go! You could die out there on the storm". "Good, then I can be with my family...". And with that I opened the door and prowled into the storm that was getting worst by the minute.
As I climbed onto the unstable boat, I felt a wave of grief sweep over me. I shook my head and started the boat. The boat was old, manufactured around 1984, but it's still worked like it was just bought. I steered the boat stubbornly, heading towards towards the coast. I did not fear the shark, I only noticed I was near the coast when I saw people on the coast telling me to go away. I ignored them and put on my snorkelling gear. I grabbed my spear wearily, and Aston the edge of the boat, I prayed that god would protect me, or send me to my family if things went the sharks way.
I slid into the water timidly, then dived under to search for the gilled killer. I went deeper and deeper until I saw a sign that it was near. Blood. I readied my spear, waiting impatiently for the shark. Then I saw it. It's was massive, it was fast, it looked angry. It slowly swam to me curiously, I didn't attack until I felt it was right. First the shark in investigated my hand then he opened his mouth a little wider, but when the shark had my fist in his mouth I jabbed the spear into his dorsal fin. The shark raged and started to attack back.
We fought for sometime, he gave me scars and I have him scars. But in the end, no one came out on top the shark retreated when another boat came to get me. When they pulled me out of the water I had cuts ever where, I was hardly breathing and paralysed. The next time I woke up I was in hospital. The doctors said I was lucky and congratulated me on killing the shark, I never told them I hadn't killed it. It would have moved from the area by now.
I the present, I have my job back, I'm not interested in love and I am smarter. But life isn't the same without my family. It never will be.
