Show Name: Smokin' Gun
Barn Name: Gunner
Age: Ten
Gender: Gelding
Breed: Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse
(also referred to as the Mountain Pleasure Horse)
Height: 14.3hh
Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horses are split into two height margins and are registered accordingly. Class A horses are 14.2hh or higher and Class B horses are between 11hh and 14.1hh. Gunner is Class A.
Personality: Eager to please / Loyal / Laid-back
Gunner is a very hard-working horse, who will turn his hoof to any discipline and give it his best shot. He is eager to please, with well-taught manners and an obediant nature. Gunner's favoured discipline is western pleasure, however he is ridden English aswell and regularly competes in Equitation classes. He is completely bombproof and is a solid horse. He is rarely grumpy or antsy with a laid-back approach on every aspect of life. The only exception to this rule is when it is feed time. Gunner is a greedy boy and will pick up his bucket and fling it high in the air in anticipation of his dinner!
Why this breed?:
Hmm...perhaps I should describe how I got here. He definately was an interesting one - trying to find a breed that had both a convex nose and silver dapple in it's breeding! (I even had to crack open some of my old horse breed books!). At first I looked at the Iberian breeds (specifically Barb and Lusitano). Most of the Iberian breeds have the 'roman nose' however they rarely - if at all - carry silver, let alone come in silver dapple. So I moved onto draft breeds, like the Groningen, however the 'draft horse' feel didn't really suit him. So I moved across the water in search of a gaited horse breed. My first choice was a Rocky Mountain Horse, because of the abundance of silver dapple; however Rocky Mountain's are typically bred with a flat face or one with only a small convex. Then I came across the Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse. The KMSH is a gaited breed, descended from a mixture of bloodlines - though most strongly influenced by the Rocky Mountain Horse and the Tennessee Walking Horse. One of the most common colours is silver dapple. They typically have a flat forehead with a small convex nose. White facial markings and small white leg markings are permitted in the breed. I think this breed fits Gunner perfectly! I can just picture him under saddle, ambling out on the trail!
Extras: Will possibly fill in later.
Other: He is so stunning! His dapples are to die for ^^'
