Mate~FrostbitePersonality~You see everywhere wonderful, friendly, caring, loyal horses. From what I know, I only have one horse that actually has a mean streak. This might sound funny, but this girl IS on the feisty side! Not like Frostbite her mate, Thimble as an attitude. Believe me, every horse has some heart, deep down inside, and this does go for her too! All you need to do is get to know her, spend time with her, and ride her. I must put in that though she has horrible ground manners, she is a glorious mount! Smooth and flashy. It seems all of the stallions are a big fan of her until she kicks them in the face.
Short story~ 'WHACK!' the echo of Thimble's foot against the chest of the horse behind her echoed thru the indoor arena at Cottonwood Ranch. Their was three horses in the arena and Thimble just kicked one. The echo of the kick sent the other horse off in a full gallop. Lucky, that person was experienced and slowed her mount down quickly. The rider that had the kicked horse had stopped, and I ran over to check on the sweet gelding, repeating again and again how sorry I was. The gelding had a bruise, but it seemed that the sound of the hit had sounded worse than it actually was. After a last apology, I ran over to Thimble and her rider, Stacy. "I am SO sorry!" Stacy said. "I tried so hard to keep her away from the other horses like you told me, but that other horse just snuck up behind us!" I replied, "Your fine. I understand. We might as well canter her around for a few more minutes and then take her in." Stacy Nodded and pushed her into a canter.
As she untacked few minutes later, I heard a squeal. I ran over to the stall. Stacy was grabbing her arm. "Are you ok? Did she nip you?" I asked. "This horse does not nip! She bites! It's not that bad, probably just a broken blood vessel. Can you hold her while I finish grooming her?" She asked. I nodded and grabbed Thimble's halter. Stacy continued, "So, I know you bought her for a brood mare, are you still going to use her for that?" I answered, "I was thinking about that last night, and I have decided that we will try it out. I have a really patient and friendly little stallion named Frostbite. Hopefully, their foal will take on at least SOME of him."
"Yha really!", Stacy chirped, "Maybe that will soften miss grumpy here! .... Do you ever think she will accept Frostbite?" I shrugged, "I dunno. Hopefully. Why did you think I picked a patient stallion?" Stacy giggled in return.
The time came when I went on with my plan. Today Thimble would meet Frostbite. I held on to the lead tightly as I walked to his pasture. When I got to the gate, I whistled, and Frostbite came cantering over. Thimble looked surprised at him and started to balk away and pin her ears, but I stopped her by giving a sharp tug on the lead. When Frostbite came to the gate, he held his distance from Thimble's teeth. He nickered. Surprisingly, one of her hears came forward, and she gave a very quiet nicker back, that came from deep down in her throat. He gave a step forward and flared his nostrils to smell her. I was blown away when she came forward and nosed him. What a charmer Frostbite is! Thimble is usually every horses nightmare(get it. night-MARE)! After another minute of all that horse romance, I let her into his pasture and stared back to the stable to work a few more horses. I giggled to myself. Wow. With that little stallion you sure do see the friendly side of Thimble! Next, I did what everyone would do. Dream about the future foal. What will it look like? Will it be a boy or girl? Who's personality will he/she take after. Only Time Knows....
