Kalea

Kalea means "joy, happiness" in Hawaiian. I thought it was fitting due to what I perceived her to be, a very light, fun loving girl who is full of joy and happiness.
Kalea also has some nicknames or pet names. He father often called her is "little ray of sunshine" or just Sunshine. He mom had a whole assortment of pet names that she used such as honey, sweetheart, and so forth. Her boyfriend used to affectionately refer to her as "Firefly" and "Sweetie." Her friends usually use her whole first name, but sometimes they also refer to her as Lea.

Female

22 years old
Taylor Swift wrote:...everything will be alright if you keep me next to you, you don't know about me, but I'll bet you want to...

Kalea is vivacious and fun loving, preferring to have a good time over being sad or upset. She often tries to hide her pain behind a facade of happiness in attempt to fool others and herself. Sometimes she is successful at fooling others, but never her close friends or herself. This ray of light in the darkness enjoys cheering others up by taking them out for a good time or just playing around. Kalea is highly intelligent and selfless, putting others above herself. She also enjoys doing very feminine things such as girls nights out, doing her friends' hair, painting nails, wearing dresses, and doing make-overs. Lea is flirtatious and energetic, but this streak of light is also very feisty.
Kalea is very friendly; it comes naturally easy for her to make friends. She is fiercely loyal and protective of her friends, never afraid to stand up for them or to defend them from bullies or heart-breakers. She is very strong-willed and can be a bit bossy to her friends sometimes, especially when she feels that they need to get out and have a good time, she only does it when she thinks it's really important. She isn't afraid to take the lead if she has to. She is very self-confident, believing very strongly in herself and her abilities, so much so that she is able to shake off the mean things others say with ease, most of the time anyway. If what has been said was too severe for her to simply blow off, she will not hesitate to fight back and show you that she is not just a pretty face.
Once you get on her bad side, it is exceptionally difficult to get out of it.

Taylor Swift wrote:...dancing, dancing like we're made of starlight, starlight.
In addition to glowing when she dives into the darkest depths of the ocean, Kalea also glows when she is exceptionally happy, as an outlet for her excess happiness. When she is having a good time or is really excited or happy about something; that is when she glows most vibrantly. When she is upset or sad, she doesn't glow at all or if she does, it's very dim and barely even noticeable.

"Oh, you like it? Why, thank you very much; it's mostly natural except for these two locks right here," she explains, indicating the two sections that are white and yellow on either side of her head. "I dyed them myself and I really loved how they looked on me the first time so much that I decided to keep them this way, I go to hair places regularly now to make sure it keeps looking this fabulous." She says with a wink.

Kalea's most prized possession is her necklace, which is a long-ish silver chain necklace with a locket attached to it. On the locket is a beveled 4-point star with rays in between the arms of the star. Inside this locket is a picture of her boyfriend who died in a tragic accident. She was given this locket by her boyfriend to celebrate their one year anniversary of being together as boyfriend and girlfriend, when she first got it, she had wanted to throw it in the trash or make him return it because she was mad at him for going out to get food and coming back with a new pet. Now the necklace is one that she always wears, whenever she's sad or thinking about what happened, her hand/paw will immediately go to the locket to touch it.
Kalea's other most prized possession is a bracelet she wears on her right front paw/hand, it has several charms on it: a gold rabbit, a silver moon, a golden sun, a silver star, a golden party hat, and a silver unicorn. Each charm represents something that she likes or represents her in some way, she got the bracelet from her parents as a Christmas gift and every year for her birthday, they'd take her out and let her select which charm she wanted to add to her bracelet.

[This story is told with all characters being anthros]
"Come on!" Kalea urged as she tugged her friend with her. "It'll be fun, I promise you."
"Alright." Her friend sighed, rolling her eyes. "Why is this so important anyway?"
"Because you are in dire need of a shot of fun after what you've been through," she replied.
"Are you sure you're doing this for me and not yourself?" Kalea's friend asked pointedly, making Kalea pause.
"What are you talking about?"
"You know precisely what I'm referring to." Her friend replied, looking at her pointedly, still rooted to the spot where she stood.
Kalea stopped and thought.
Oh. That, she thought to herself, her face falling a bit when she realized she was still trying to forget or at least move on from what had happened to her boyfriend last year.
They had fought the night before, a fight over something that was truly stupid, though it hadn't seemed that way at the time. Her boyfriend,Tristan Kayode, hadn't called ahead to ask her if it was okay to adopt a pet for them, he had just brought the rabbit home. Though it was adorable, she knew that neither of them could properly look after the thing and that it had been irresponsible of him to get it on a whim. Perhaps if she had known then what was to happen the next day, she would have let him keep the rabbit.
Kalea bit her lip and lightly touched the locket around her neck that held a picture of her boyfriend, remembering what happened as vividly as if had only been yesterday. It had been raining heavily when Tristan had gone out to return the rabbit, on his way back, some guy was texting and driving. He wasn't paying attention at all to the road and though Tristan had tried to swerve and get out of the guy's way, he ended up being hit by him and getting run into a tree on the side of the road.

The text burned into Kalea's would never fade, the text that had led to her boyfriend's death.
"Yeah," Kalea admitted sadly. "I guess I am doing this sort of for myself as well."
"Still haven't gotten over it?" Her friend looked at her with concern.
"No, I haven't. I don't know if I ever will."
"Sure you will, you'll find someone to love again."
Kalea looked at her friend and smirked. "Hey, wasn't I supposed to be the one doing the cheering up?"
"Yeah, but I flipped the tables on you," her friend replied. "Come on, let's go to the club then, then we can both cheer up for a bit and you can feel like you accomplished something."
Kalea wasn't exactly in the mood to party at the club anymore, she stared at the pavement in sorrow and emitted a sigh before reluctantly getting up from the bench.
It is probably time I try to move on instead of bury my pain. She thought to herself, though hardly believing she could truly do it.
Entering the club, Kalea didn't exactly feel like dancing anymore. Ever since her friend had made her think about what had happened to Tristan, she had been in a state of melancholy. Every time she tried to pick herself up and try to at least look happy, she felt like she wasn't being successful at it at all at fooling anyone, not even herself. Sighing, she pulled out her MP3 player and flipped through the library, selecting "Artist" and then going to Taylor Swift's name and then tell her MP3 player to play all the songs from all the albums and set it to shuffle and repeat. She just watched as her friend danced and had a good time, which was what Kalea's goal for tonight had been anyway.
After the song "Starlight" ended and her MP3 player moved on to the next song, she found that her gloomy spirits were starting to rise as the first couple beats of the new song started playing. When the lyrics kicked in, that was when she found herself getting into the music, bobbing her head to the rhythm of the song.
It feels like a perfect night to dress up like hipsters and make fun of our exes, ah-ah-ah-ah. Kalea thought about her friend who was over on the dance floor, dancing. They had started this whole night because she had had a bad break-up with her boyfriend of three years.
It feels like a perfect night to have breakfast at midnight to fall in love with strangers, ah-ah-ah-ah. Yeah. We're happy free confused and lonely at the same time, it's miserable and magical, oh yeah! She found herself loving this song more and more, it was fun, flirtatious, and uplifting; precisely what she needed right now.
I don't know about you, but I'm feeling 22, everything will be alright if you keep me next to you. You don't know about me, but I bet you want to. Everything will be alright if we just keep dancing like we're twenty two. Ooh-ooh. 22 ooh. The chorus spoke to Kalea; so long as she was with her friends and let herself have a good time, she could.
Tonight’s the night when we forget about the heartbreak. It’s time. Oh-oh. Hey! This made Kalea stop, tonight was the night to forget the heartbreak, her friend’s heartbreak and Kalea’s old one which had been festering far too long.
By the end of the song, Kalea felt completely re-energized, spirits lifted and ready to get into the fray and dance. With a smile, she pushed down and held the OPTION button and waited for the old scratched up screen to say “Power Off” and “See you later.” Then she flipped the side switch for the HOLD function to put it on so that it wouldn’t turn on at some point while she was dancing and drain the battery. She wanted to go back to listening to that song some more at some point.
She joined her friend on the dance floor and lived it up with her, making sure that they both weren’t thinking about anything outside of having a good time. That smiles were always on their faces and that neither of them ended up even thinking a sad thought.
By the end of the night of the night, they were both tired and as Kalea looked up at the night sky walking back with her friend, she listened to “22” by Taylor Swift and knew that this was her theme song and that it had been the perfect night.
