"Why did we agree to do this, again?" Naminé asked quietly, glancing nervously about. "It's terribly cold and wet and dark and awful out today..! Surely we could have gone... 'Exploring' some other day... Perhaps in the summer, when it wasn't drizzling and cold? Maybe even during the daytime?"
"Oh, lighten up, Nami~ It's not that bad out! You should see it in the winter! There's always giant slushy blizzards then!" Kairi exclaimed, no less cheerful than usual. "I, personally, think it's pretty nice out! Besides, everyone knows that the best time to explore in a dark forest on the side of a mountain is Halloween night~!"
"...Did I say 'we'? I meant I. Why did I agree to this, again?" Nobody answered, prompting a sigh. "I've never met a single person besides you two who have ever thought that, by the way," she muttered, shaking her head. "Dark and forests tend to not go together, and the last time darkness and forests and mountains went together that I've seen, the main character ended up trapped in a radio tower with a corpse or something while the surrounding area burned..."
I rolled my eyes. "There's no Slenderman here, Nami. It's just a game, you derp~" I said, petting her mane.
She shrunk back. "Pleasedon'ttouchmeyouknowIdon'tlikepeopletouchingmemuchlessyou."
"Whatever, bro." I shrugged. "At most we might find my friends out here cosplaying or something. Maybe recreating The Eight Pages. I'm pretty sure they were going to do that at some point."
The purple Kiamara groaned. "Wonderful. I was sincerely hoping to be traumatized by Slenderman cosplayers. It's always been my dream."
"Great! Gar, text your friends and see if they're out here so we can make Nami's dream come true!" Kairi exclaimed, bouncing up and down happily, the beam from the headlamp strapped to her forehead flying wildly through the trees.
"...You really do have no sense of sarcasm, don't you?"

We'd been wandering around for... Perhaps a half an hour. Naminé, cold, wet, and shivering, wasn't especially happy with this.
"Garnet, there's nothing here! Can't we just go home yet?" she whined.
Kairi, on the other hand, seemed to be enjoying herself very much.
"C'mon, Nami, it's not even that bad out! Besides, what's the point of staying at home on a rainy Halloween when there's already someone handing out candy to what few kids show up~?"
"The point is that you don't get sick-" she started, only to be cut off when a soggy piece of paper flew into her face. "Ackwhattheheckohgodgetitoffme!" the Kiamara exclaimed, flinging it off her head, along with her headlamp and one of her stars.
"I got it, I got it!" Kairi exclaimed, chasing after the bouncing light and charm.
Naminé and I watched as her adoptive sister ran off. "...She acts like she's playing fetch," she muttered, shaking her head.
I shrugged, reaching down to grab the wet paper off the ground. It barely held together, the corners starting to tear when I held it, and so I simply flipped it upright and set it on the ground, bouncing the beam of my flashlight off of it. A water-blurred doodle, barely visible, was shown on the surface. I grinned. "Looks like my friends are out here after all!"
Naminé looked down at the picture. "...Three things. One, ohgodwhy, two, I could draw better than that, even though I have to hold the pencil in my mouth-"
She never got to say her third thought, however, as Kairi ran straight into her, knocking her over - And myself in the process.
"UghandnowI'mcoveredinmud," she groaned.
"OhmygodguysIsawathinganditwasblackandwhiteandfreakyand-" Kairi started.
I clamped my hand over her muzzle. "Kai. Slowly, okay?"
She nodded, and I let go. "There was this thing while I was getting her stuff. It was black and white and just sort of todo there watching me. Its face was all white and featureless."
"...Bro, that was one of my friends," I said, pointing at the slip of paper.
She climbed off of us, glanced at it briefly, then turned back to us. "Well, it wasn't, like, human. It looked almost like one of us, but tiny!" she exclaimed.
I gave her a blank stare. "...A SlenderKia?" I asked, skeptical. "Oh, I gotta see this." I strapped Naminé's headlamp back onto her, pocketed her star, and headed off to where the creature was last seen.
- - -
"I'm seriously not seeing anything, Kai. We've been walking for, like, ten minutes."
"I'm telling you, I saw something black and white and freaky!" she exclaimed.
Naminé groaned, trailing behind us. "Can we please just go home? My paws are killing me!" she whined. "I'm cold and tired and wet and covered in mud and I hate this!"
I rolled my eyes. "Fine, fine, we'll go." I looked around for a minute. "...Which way did we come from?" I asked.
"...Youdon'tknow?" Nami asked, horrified.
"...Oops?" I said, sweatdropping.
"I know the way out!" a voice exclaimed, seemingly from nowhere. We looked around in search of the owner, with no luck.
"Where are-" I was cut off by the impact of something falling from the thick branch of the tree next to me and landing on my back. I fell flat on my stomach with a thud and a groan.
"I told you! I told you it was real!" Kairi screeched as the thing jumped off me.
"Oh my god. It's a mask, you dummy!" the voice said. "It's Halloween, after all!"
I pushed myself to my feet. "What the..?"
A small black Kiamara in a blank white mask stood before me. "The name's Xion!" she exclaimed cheerfully, placing her paws on her head and wriggling out of the mask, revealing a black face with white eyes, nose, spots, and mane. "You totally fell for that whole Slender thing, too!" She laughed loudly. "You guys need some help getting outta here, right? I can help you out with that! I've been watching you since you got here, you know~!" she stated proudly. "But... Can I maybe go with you, too? I'm a lot older than I look - I have that thing that makes you stop growing, so everyone kinda thinks I'm weird." She gave an awkward laugh.
Naminé, hiding behind a nearby tree, glanced out at us. "Saynosaynosayno-"
"You'll help us get out of here if we do?" I asked.
"Uh huh! It's a lot more fun pranking and tricking and scaring people when they don't see it coming, after all, and everyone here's sort of seen all my tricks already," she answered.
"Hmm... Alrighty, then, sure, you can come with us! Though, uh, don't jump on us from now on, okay?" I said.
She tilted her head, thinking. "...Fair enough! Let's go!" she exclaimed, jumping in front of us. "Follow me!"
Naminé slunk out from behind her tree. "GodIhateHalloween."
