Orpheus

The original Orpheus is the son of the muse Calliope. He is a musician, poet, and prophet of Greek mythology. He was able to charm all creatures with the sweetness of his voice and lyre.
Most know Orpheus for the story of his attempt to retrieve his wife Eurydice from the Underworld. After Eurydice passed, Orpheus traveled to the Underworld and charmed Hades and Persephone, who allowed him to lead his wife back to Earth on the condition that he must not look back at her. Although Orpheus was successful with this most of the way home, he looked back to check that she was still there, and consequently lost her for good.
I believe this Mako's parents would name him after something they would want him to be, as opposed to the deceitful and thieving creature he carries the markings of. The makoatl certainly bears a slight resemblance to his namesake; he is known to be a real charmer with his suave voice and eye-catching appearance.
