Their is a lot more to say about her personality than just three words like some horses.
A way I like to think about it to make her easier to understand is to think of it as if she was a human.
She is the type of girl that will run barefoot anyplace, she is never inside, always wanting to feel free. Some times she will throw her hands in the air and run around to feel the wind in her face. People taking walkes or driving by will look at her awkward but she never cares, only feeling sorry for them and hoping that they will one day realize how wonderful it is to be alive.
She is very athletic, tall, skinny, and active. People think of her as Awkward Autumn but when they get to know her they want to be around her all of the time. She makes them laugh and feel free themselves.
Once a birds nest fell from a tree after a bad storm. She guarded it and would not leave the side of it for five days until the babies hatched. The first day they did she was extra careful and watched every step just in case they where testing their flying skills. Eventually their parents lest and they really started flying and for the next two months, every evening they would come and perch in her back. This proved that she loves all the animals of the world no matter what size and shape and can make friends with any of them~
She has serious problems when it comes to her stall and people have eventually given up and left her in the pasture all the time unless she is off being ridden. She will crib and kick and make a ton of noise, eventually give up and just put her back out.
Autumn is really good with other horses, and other animals. She is a great pasture buddy and will make friends with even the most grumpiest of animals.
She is an amazing mount and currently does three day eventing for beginners to intermediates, since she just does not have the stuff it takes for the advanced competition. She can be spunky but once you get to know her and she know you she will be you favorite horse their~
story:
Today I will only tell you a short story, of Autumn's first show. I guess you could call it a disaster. A few mistakes we made was putting her on a not so experienced rider considering shows, and getting nervous easily, and also because she really had not finished training. Oh well, it had to happen sometime....
Well, anyways, we got their and she would not come out of the trailer. Finally we bribed her out with some oats. She ate them and then saw the other horses and with us not expecting took off to go meet them. She was just making friends with a warmblood stallion when the owner of him picked up her lead and handed it to us, it sure was embarrassing~
After we got her all tacked up she started whinnying, a lot, and REALLY loud. Pretty soon all of the horse their where kind of freaking out because every other horse was letting out a shrill whinny to return to Autumn. More stares....
Believe me, we had been training her for the last year and a half but dispite that she refused every jump. Finally she did one and was so proud of herself she took off in a racehorse speed canter. Again most of the other horses in the arena did the same.
We almost drove away and left her their when she went over the whole course but only missed knocking down one jump because she "accidently took off at the right time."
She seemed to be enjoying this show. I wonder if it was partly because everyone was staring at her, and I am not exaggerating whatsoever when I say everyone.
It came time when the real comp started, you know, when the judges where looking....
I am so appreciative to Autumns rider for not walking out on us.
Actually Autumn did amazing compared to her practice. She took all of the jumps and only knocked down one. She seemed to know that it was serious business. The only big problem was that she slowed down and almost stopped every time they passed the judges as if she wanted to go up and introduce herself. The judges got a few giggles over this, especially over her expression at them with her little ears pricked at them and not listening to her rider at all.
It ended up a pretty good day when we got 10th, the last placement. But at least she DID get a placing, and it was really weird because when we left the show that night everyone was commenting to us that they wish they had our little mare.
All we could do was smile.
Now don't worry, Autumn has improved greatly and actually won first place her last show. She has also learned cross country and dressage(on which she fails at so far) and is getting to be a successful little mare.
And I go to sleep happy when I think of her at night, Our little Autumn~
congratz! loved the effort!
