dropping out (✿◠‿◠)
Aviv had always been a little sick from time to time, and it was usually around the time of the year when Halloween walked in and brought joy all around. He was never allowed to go and trick or treat due to this nor would he be included in any Halloween activities and events.

One year he was lucky and had discussed costumes in a short conversation that did not last long, and Aviv had said how he always wanted to dress as a ghost. Nice and simple, you’d think, but no, Aviv had put years of thought into it. He wanted something spookier, and he had the perfect idea. His idea was a little secret though, and you’d have to wait to see!
Now, everyone called Aviv the ‘opposite’. Why? Seeming that he had a parts of the skeleton on his coat helped this a lot, since wasn’t the skeleton supposed to be on the inside? Plus he always did the opposite on Halloween and stayed inside sleeping. It didn’t help that his parents gave him a name meaning spring, which is the opposite from the month Halloween is known for, Autumn/Fall. He thought he was born for Halloween, but he was always more active during the month of bloom.
He always kind of only talked to Callimaco, since no one really seemed to want to be around someone who was sick a lot. Besides, he had one of the glowy things on his head too, and Aviv didn’t know anyone else who had them, and he didn’t say much, which was cool, because he wouldn’t really make fun of Aviv’s glowing pumpkin. Callimaco was cool.
This upcoming Halloween, Aviv seemed healthier than ever and he was ecstatic about it. He had babbled to Callimaco about it nearly every day of October and he eventually got Callimaco to come around and agree to go trick or treating with him. Thanks to his idea not having much to it, the costume which he dreamed of was easy to create.
Once Aviv was ready to go, all excited like he had never been before, he wandered around in the bed sheets with cut out holes for eyes for awhile looking for Callimaco. It was hard to find him, at the least you could say, but Aviv did eventually find him in a cool pirate outfit, lurking in some shadows in a place which was empty. He got a little bit of a jump when he saw the ghost costume Aviv was wearing, but it was probably just because he was overly shy.
They had been around a few places where other Makoatls lived, Aviv sharing his candy with Callimaco because Calllimaco didn’t seem to follow him all the way up to the door and seemed to stay bit too far away from the home of the makoatl they were visiting. Aviv didn’t really mind though, he wasn’t really excited about the candy, more the costume and the scaring.
“Callimaco, could you hold this for me?” Aviv said and whipped off the bed sheets ghost costume, giving it to Callimaco for a second while he scrambled into a seabush to hide from some upcoming trick or treaters. As they had gotten closer, he could hear them murmuring about their costumes and the amount of candy they had gotten.
Aviv jumped out of the bush quickly and they screamed, causing some other trick or treaters across from where they were to have a look what was going on. Aviv, now without the ghost costume on, was dressed in black all over with glowing white lights attached to him in a skeleton shape, glowing vibrantly. He hoped it looked like just a skeleton was walking around, and it seemed to work because when he looked at the Makoatls he had jumped out at, they were terrified.
“Hey, wait, is that Aviv?” One said and started laughing a little while Callimaco watched from the seabushes and Aviv remained in a scary pose.
“No, I’m a skeleton.” Aviv whispered in a ghostly way.
“You sure are!” They laughed and relaxed, the orange glow of the pumpkin radiating a orange glow on Aviv’s face, showing a smile.
Callimaco ad Aviv then continued walking around for the night, visiting more homes and sticking to the shadows (every now and then giving someone a scare) because Aviv thought his skeleton costume worked better in the dark, and he wanted to included Callimaco in the fun too.
halloween-related story;; wrote:The eerie light of the moon drew many up towards the surface to gaze upon the beams of light. Though, below in the farther reaches of the water a different light lurched and mystified its viewers. A silent stroke of the water and a close snap of teeth in the face of the unwary made the, now terrified, watchers screech and dart away into the dark waters. These events brought a deep laugh from behind the teeth of the monster that scared them.
“This is the fun to be had no matter the day.” The chortling voice told itself as a new light entered it’s pool, “I know, you don’t quite like it, though, Calli.” The quick dart of the eyes from the one named Calli was enough of assurance to the monster beside him. “If you rather, we can go receive treats or make traditional treats.” A more worried tint took over the amusement from the earlier.
“I’d rather go get some treats, Samhain.” Calli tentatively mustered as he watched Samhain’s face for his reaction.
“You know, you can call me Sam by this point, Calli. We know eachother… decently. But, sure would you rather trick-or-treat or make some treats? I’ve got a wonderful recipe for apple muffins I’ve wanted to try.” A quick light of enthusiasm shone in Sam’s eyes as he waited for Calli’s response.
“Trick-or-treating…”A soft, hesitant reply from Callimaco, but a reply nonetheless, Samhain smiled and started for the nearest spots for the treats. He wondered how Calli would even deal with trick-or-treating, but figured Calli didn’t trust him enough to make food or go to his home. Once upon one of the homes with trick-or-treaters gathered in troves, Sam turned to Calli and tilted his head.
“Are you sure, this is ok? I know this is kinda one of those times of year where being… well, scary is best, but I do understand that you’re not particularly… in that mindset.” His slightly stuttered words made sense to him, but he worried that Calli either wouldn’t understand, or would understand and possibly have a break down. Sam really hadn’t encountered this situation with Calli before, so it made him more wary of the outcome. Instead of answering his question, Calli seemed to ease his way to the door. Sam made sure to stick close to him, in case something happened, but they both ended up with their treats, Calli acquiring them with more hesitance, successfully.
Now with ragged bags, filled with the sweet fruits of their labor, Sam and Calli swam home. The gleaming orb above them slowly disappeared as they entered the gloom of the deep. The lights upon their heads lit up the child like looks of amusement, happiness, and mischief. Then the looks diminished as the dens that they called home grew nearer.
“Well, I can tell this has been quite the night for you. Probably going to recharge your batteries back home.” Samhain tried sounding nonchalant as his eyes gazed upon the scenery around them. The flicker of Calli’s lights indicated this to be true, “Well, don’t be a stranger. I’m just in the trench below. We could probably bake up some fish, or play a game.” The smile that crossed Sam’s lips seemed to bring a small one out in Callimaco. But the moment was gone once Calli turned and went his way home. Samhain went his way too, finding his paws gripping the bag tighter as though not to spill the treats. As though it mattered once he got to his den. The bag, tossed upon a makeshift table of coral, and the treats spilled over like forgotten treasures. Sam was rushing to his cabinet, scrapping for something within. A flash of glass, then the flash of foggy lenses as a jar of eyes lurched from the shelf and into his paws. A sigh of relief and calm flushed from his body as he snuggled it. “I’m sorry lovelies… I wasn’t going to disturb you tonight. But I made a friend. He’s that shy and naive Acquaintance I told you all about before, but I think we're more like friends now. We went trick-or-treating and even though he didn't like it, I scared a few folks like usual. But you all would be jealous of his eyes. Maybe not like your galaxy, or your glow, but his are unique and wonderful. I know I didn't tell you guys about those yet. Maybe one day he'll be over for dinner so you can see them. A photograph wouldn't do them justice.” A shudder laced through his body as he slid the jar back into its hiding place, “I wonder what I’ll do with these sweets…” Sam’s eyes now lay on the coral table with the spilled treasures of the night. “I know, I’ll make some dessert with them. I haven’t had Halloween dinner yet, and that’s a feast I have yet to miss.” The light sneer made the bio-luminescent glow in the den seem more eerie and even more so with the honey sweet humming as he began his dinner preparations.
