He is to stay domestic!

Owner: wildhorse027
Equid Name: Distant
Equid Age: 4
Height: 13.3hh
Gender: Male
SHORT story:

I trudged up the footpath of the old country roads. The cars rushed passed my face as I looked over to the other side of the road, where there was many fields, one after each other. They mostly had sheep in them, or cows. One had a lovely old white horse called Smokey who was incredibly friendly. Though one field, the last before the turning into the hockey pitch, was a strange looking horse. I turned to my grandmother was walking beside me and asked to go and see it, she said "Of course, you know that's a Wild Mountain Equid, It's strange to see them domestic, they are mainly wild." I smiled to her and we crossed the road to the field. I began to call the equid over , it took a while, but he came. I fed it grass for a while and soon ran out of nice fresh tall grass so I ran down to the end of the field to get more. The equid followed racing me down the field. I laughed at this as no horse had ever did that I fell in love with the Equid instantly.

I had always went to visited the Equid, as it was always there. It always seemed so Distant from everything, as if part of him was missing. So that's what I decided to name him, since I didn't really know his name, Distant and we still raced each other up and down the field, it was fun for the both of us, he seemed to like it. I traveled there every morning, it was within walking Distance, only three minutes down the road. Though one day, as I was standing at the metal gate of Distant's field an old man stated walking up the track with a purple halter. I continued to stroke distant as he approached. I asked him if it was his horse and he said it was. "He is beautiful," I said quite loudly as the man had said he didn't have great hearing. He also went on and said "Could i sell him to you?" My eyes widened "H-how much?" "550," he replied, it was cheap for a horse but I still could not afford it or have anywhere to put him. I had to refuse it at that moment, but I never forgot it. The man then began to lead him out of the field to where his home was and that was when I asked his name, "Doesn't have one, I just call him boy." The man said and then lead Distant away.

The man had just been taking him to shed behind his home where he would put him back on hay fodder for he had used him for carting so he was put back into the field shortly after. I still visited him, raced him, brought him the odd carrot or apple here and there. But sometime after, Distant had disappeared from the field he was usually in and wasn't there anymore. I wanted to go and knock on the old owners door but, I couldn't bring myself to do it. I was always bored as I just always use to go there but now I had to go.

After quite some months I had given up, I thought he would never be there again and he wasn't. I had been looking in every other field close to the area and he wasn't there either. One day I had left the area to visit some family out in the city, I had gone by the coast road. Returning we went a different way, not by the coast we were more inland. I loved to just stare out the window so that's what I had been doing, we came to a corner and there had been fields on both sides and in that corner field grazed Distant. I stuck my face up against the window and gasped in delight, "Look mum, look there's Distant!" I had told her all about him so she knew how much I had loved him, she slowed the car though there was nowhere to stop so we had to drive on. I sat in the back of the back with I smile across my face, I had found him.

The field had belonged to so farmers. An uncle of mine had knew them and he kept his boat there so when he said he was driving up I asked if I could go with him. He drove me up the lane to the farm and we got out. My uncle and the farm owner, Jim, spoke for a while, me pretending I was interested. Eventually I had worked up the courage to poke in deeper and speak, "This is a lovely farm, what animals do you keep here?" Jim smiled, he loved his farm his pride and joy it was, "Ah we have many many sheep and cows too, dogs , cats horses -" "Horses! I love horses! May I see them?" I asked eagerly "Of course, come on and we will go see them." We all walked down towards the field. He pointed out all of his horse and then came to one more, it was Distant and he came trotting over straight away, "This one is a different breed, we got him a while ago but I haven't payed it much attention, not much you can do with it really..I thought of selling him-" "No!" I cried, "He is lovely, what is his name?" It was Distant to me, "No name yet, but see we need to do much more with our showing horses so we don't have much time to really d-" "I could help! I would love to take care of him!" Jim thought for a moment, "That sounds splendid, since you have agreed to help why don't you name him?" I smiled, "Distant."

SHORT story:

I remember the day like it was yesterday. The sky was partly cloudy and the heat was a little intense; and that’s not including the humidity. It was a day most people would stay inside with the air conditioning and multiple fans directed at their faces. But, there I was- out in the middle of a livestock market looking around at beautiful horses and Wild Mountain Equids that were up for sale. Dad and I were out here looking for a sturdy farming horse, not a “pretty pasture pony” as he called them. Most days I would have shut my mouth and said nothing because I would be lucky enough to be getting a new horse at all. However, that day my eyes fell on a fluffy little WME colt with striking yellow eyes that stood out against its soot colored coat fashioned with outlined paint markings and an adorable nose spot.
Image

Captivated by his beauty I reached out to touch his neck, only to be swatted away rudely by his seller. He had a mean gleam in his eye and obviously didn’t want to be there. “Aye! Keep ‘yer hands off ‘em... he’s worth too much to be gettin’ all dirty.” Looking down at the rope keeping the colt in his pen, I saw the number the seller wanted. I gasped. “Ten-thousand?! Why do you want so much for him?” He stuck his nose up at me, looking down on me as if I were a street rat. “He ain’t got no stripes like the others.” The grumpy seller spit tobacco out of his mouth in my direction before continuing. “’Sides, he’s already been sold.”

My heart sank at that moment. The chances were so impossibly slim for me to even see the colt again, let alone own him. I didn’t even look up when I felt a hand rest on my shoulder. An oddly familiar, deep voice spoke from behind me. “I see you have an interest in my new colt, Nelson.” I looked up to see my neighbor, John. We didn’t cross paths much, mainly because he was a millionaire and my dad and I were pretty much broke.

My eyes went wide and a spark of hope lit in my heart. “John Sir, please, I would be so honored to take care of him for you…I live on the farm direct south from you. I could come over every day and help with anything and everything you tell me to.” He raised his eyebrow and pondered the question. “What would your earnings be? I need a number to know if you are worth it.” Taking a deep breath, I answered with my heart and soul. “Well, Sir, he is my dream quid…I want to raise him, train him and watch him grow as a stallion. I want to see to it that he is always properly taken care of, and never goes a day without being loved. I want to learn all of his likes and dislikes, his interesting qualities and his quirks. I don’t have enough money for him now, but I promise I will earn it.”

A long awkward silence followed my heartfelt speech. Tears began to well up in my eyes as more and more doubts flooded through my mind. I looked down at my feet in attempts to will the tears away. Right when I was about to lose my composure, John placed his hand under my chin and raised my head up. “You are one convincing young lady.” He looked to the colt and back at me. “Sure, why not?”

The series of events that occurred on that day changed my life. I spent nearly fifteen years working for John on his farm. Just last month he passed away from a terminal cancer, and in his will he granted me ownership of the black quipless stallion. So, now I sit in the pasture with Alydar as he frolics around enjoying his retirement. Those fifteen years were well spent, for here I was, with the equid of my dreams, and not another care in the world.

Equid Name: Eri
Equid Age: 2 years

SHORT story: I was born on a cold, Autumn day. One of those days a mare would not like to give birth, for she would be exerting the energy stored to survive the cold days. My dam was giving birth on one of those days. This miracle took place in a horse barn with a kind old breeder. During the excruciating 25 long minutes in labor, the owner of my mother, Honey, sat by her and even tried to resuscitate her when the strain on her heart become to much. In the end, I was born by Caesarean section after a rushed trip to the nearby veterinarian. I was alive and well, weighing in at around 97 pounds. My mother wasn't so lucky. I hoped she would go to WME heaven where she would watch over me and be able to graze as much as she wanted. I was brought up by another dam who has lost her foal to a stray dog. I became content and carefree, but that didn't last forever.

One year later...

Remember me telling you about the kind, old breeder I lived with? Well, he passed away a few months later and I went to another breeder. The place I live now is with a cruel, rich business man who abuses me to the point of my depression. He uses something called a Martingale which controls the position of my head. Martin, my owner, tightens the Martingale as much as possible, but complains that my head "is not high enough." This constant pain is unbearable and changed me from a gentle, carefree horse to a cruel, giddy horse. I was always reluctant to go out riding, but I had little choice. Today, I am more rogue than usual. When Martin climbs onto his ladder and reaches up to tighten the Martingale, I buck. I have no idea what made me do it, but I was sick and tired of the pain. Martin falls and a painful crack echoes through my stall. He lets out a painful screech and his wife, Marie, comes running. "Oh sweetie! Did he do this to you?" He nods, but from his face you can easily see that he is in pain. He tries to say something but Marie puts a finger over his mouth. "Don't try to talk, I'll call for the doctor." She casts a quick glare at me.

Later, Martin decides to put up some of his horses for sale. Obviously, I am one of them. The next day I wake up and see Martin putting a price table on my Martingale. He laughs and I see the cast on his leg. "No one is going to want you" he sneers into my ear. His theory is way off, as usual. The horses and WME's for sale are brought out to the outside pen and the door to our stalls is shut behind us. People come from all around to see us. One girl takes special interest in me. She is around fourteen or fifteen and she feels a special connection to me almost instantly. Her name is Cayla, the name seems light on the tongue and rather sweet-sounding. Cayla pulls on her Dad's arm and drags him to look at me. "Isn't he handsome?" She asks her father, at the same time eyeing me up and down. Her eyes land on my Martingale. "This is way to tight" she discreetly adjusts it to the perfect tightness. She puts her finger to her lips and nods at Martin. We make a silent agreement with our eyes not to tell him (as if!).

Her father clears his throat and points to the price tag. $50,000 it reads. "Cayla... you know we can't afford him" he puts his hand on her shoulder, but she brushes it off abruptly.
"It's so unfair!" she yells.
"Hey, hey, hey" Martin comes over. "Is there a problem here?"
"Yes, and he just walked over" Cayla casts a glare at him. Her father looks at her and she stalks away.
"I'm sorry about that. We were just leaving." My heart breaks. She is so nice! I only wish she could afford me! I stomp to the corner of the pen and wait for the end of the sale. A man who seems to be a friend of Martin's comes near the end. "Have you got him ready?" he looks at me.
"Doing it right now, Tim" Martin drags me over to the man. Tim slaps fifty grand in his hand and grabs my lead at the same time.
"Come 'ere ya' beast."

I know that I'll want to slap myself for this tomorrow, but I've decided to withdraw. I love black equids, I love quipless equids so I don't fully understand it myself why exactly I'm doing this. I just feel like I have lost some of the connection that I originally felt, and there's people who'd deserve him more than I do. I wish everyone the best of luck! <3
