Story:
The coarse mane that lined the spine of a young stallion quivered as a chilled breeze gently shook the autumn forest. His hooves cracked frozen dirt as he shifted his weight. He calmly surveyed the waking forest before him, releasing a deep sigh. The warm breath caused the air to fog in front of him. Dawn light was just filtering through the rust and yellow leaves, making them shimmer as the sun hit their frost-laden stems. The stallion slowly began his walk forward, embarking on his annual walk through the new autumn woods. It was a tradition his mother taught him, and one he still continued every year. He paused for a moment, allowing himself to recall the time when he had first walked through these woods.
Three autumns ago, the stallion -- just a colt then -- followed as his mother led him to the path he stood on now. The trail was narrow, and overgrown bushes made it obvious that it was not walked often. He was unsure about heading into these unknown woods, and hesitated as his mother began to move forward. Ultimately he followed, but despite his best efforts couldn't help travelling on shaky legs. The colt's unsteady movements caused him to stutter over a tree's root that had crept onto the trail, and he ended up with his nose in a thick bush coated with something sparkling white...something...something cold! The surprising chill made the colt's nose sting unpleasantly, and he jolted backwards at once. He shook out his mane, rather flustered. Giving a slight snort, he noticed that his mother was already wandering away from him. He scampered quickly to her heels, awaiting something purposeful to come from their walk together. Sure, he was learning about the strange, sparkling stuff...but shouldn't there be something...bigger, that should come out of this trip?
The colt found himself growing bored as he continued along with his mother. Besides eating some average-tasting berries that were covered with some more of that odd, sparkly stuff, really nothing else purposeful had come from their walk. What could his mother possibly have been trying to accomplish with this trip?
In the years following that original trip, the stallion was continuously drawn to that same trail on the morning of the first frost. As the years went on, he began to realize what his mother had been trying to show him on that first autumn walk: The forest had been bursting with life on that cold autumn day, but he was so focused on trying to find that big, important thing that he never took the time to slow down and admire all of the beautiful, small things that were happening right in front of him. Sometimes we all forget to stop and smell the flowers, and appreciate the amazing, wonderful world we walk through every day. Afterall, it's really the little things that count.

The stallion gave a gentle sigh as he recalled this mindset that he thanked his mother for, then shifted forward, ready to begin his humbling walk through the woods.

Equid's Name: Jarek; Czech name meaning "fierce, strong". [info]
Height: 14 hh
Gender: Stallion
Age: 6 years
Story:
At the edge of the world, the brave reap their rewards.

Standing at the end of the grass covered cliff, looking down to the raging waters below, Jarek stared down into the canyon with a mischievous glint in his emerald eyes. He could smell the scent of the water that churned white amongst the rocky outcroppings, contrasting sharply against the various grays and browns that mottled the canyon walls. Lifting his head as a warm wind blew his mane back, he closed his eyes and smiled at the feeling of the air tousling his short, striped mane.

Taking a deep breath, the scent of rain and electricity floating on the air, Jarek turned to see the looming dark clouds forming against the soft blue sky. Rearing as if to challenge the forces of nature, his hooves lashing out at the sky, Jarek let free a joyous squeal, relishing the feeling of freedom that he and his herd mates felt. As if in response the clouds released a bolt of lightning, the flash streaking through the dark mass as the first droplets of rain whipped into Jarek's face.

Another whinny drew his attention then, the young stallion turning to see the white equid that was his leader, he and the two mares moving for a cave that lay nestled in the base of a hill. It looked human-made, but long abandoned. "Hurry up, lightfoot!" Arivin yelled, obviously irritated at the young one. Jarek took one last sniff of rain before he bucked, turning around to gallop towards the storm. Three strides and he whipped back to face the canyon, just in time to see Arivin disappear into the darkness. Sure, Jarek could take the easy way and move for the stone bridge that connected the two halve of the plateau, but that wasn't his style.

Lunging forward, Jarek's strides grew longer and more powerful, his legs eating up the ground as the canyon came closer, the typically motionless grass softly whipping the bottom of his legs. One stride left and the dun equid grinned, his hooves coming to the very edge of the ground and he leapt, lifting his legs high as his hind legs left the safety of the earth. For a brief moment Jarek felt weightless, imagining that massive white wings had sprouted from his back and he'd never have to touch the ground again.

Sadly, such was not the case. His moment of glory over, the equid prepared himself to land, transferring his center of gravity forward just in time for his front hooves to hit the hard rock on the other side, sending up small plumes of dust and dirt. Slowing to a stop on the other side, Jarek reared and bucked again, expending the adrenaline that had begun to race through his systems. After a moment to let the rain calm him, Jarek trotted towards the shelter to escape the brunt of the storm descending into the cool darkness with a grin. Which, of course, earned a sigh of exasperation from the white lead stallion.

(He loves jumping, especially ones that are often risky and challenging.)

Story:
I could feel the wind blowing through my mane an my pelt as I stood at the rocky outcrop. Boulders of every size and shape were scattered as if some giant of long ago tore them from the very mountain my hoofs touched. I swished my tail as I waited for the morning dawn and the start of a new day, especially after the raging storm like last night. The wind was a reminder, a living memory that moved and swayed by the Creators will, but to me, it signaled that a new chapter had come to my home. As I greeted the morning Sun and watched as the dark, grey storm clouds retreated and turned instead to soft pinks and reds, I whispered a thank you to the Creator, who had spared my little piece of heaven.
You see, I love storms, but I love the Sunrises that come after the storms. No greater beauty has ever been seen that can outshine a Sunrise. When the dark, foreboding sky turns to colors of reds, oranges, pinks and yellows, like the sky is of a living fire that never dies. Yes, that is what I love. I come every morning to the highest mountaintop to greet the sun and watch as my home is bathed in a glorious wash of morning glory. This proves to me that, no matter how hard the storm, a new day always dawns and life goes on, seemingly renewed and full again.

Equid's Name: Spirit of the Northern Winds (Spirit)
Height: 14 hh
Gender: Stallion
Age: 3 years
Story: Spirit trotted to the waterfall. The waterfall crashed and roared, tumbling in an exotic display. A pair of young otters played beneath the falls, jumping and flipping, going in and out of the water. Spirit decided to lie down for awhile and enjoy the scenery. He looked up at the soft, fluffy clouds, and enjoyed the warm, gentle breeze as it flowed through his mane. A beautiful eagle passed overheard, crying out a welcome to whoever was there. A little squirrel settled on Spirit's flank, and munched on an acorn. A mountain lion moved through the trees to his left, slipping silently through the undergrowth. Spirit sighed quietly. This was where he went to relax, and to enjoy the beauty of his home. He laid his head on the ground, and quietly fell asleep, listening to the branches rustling in the breeze, and the chirping of the occasional bird.

(I hope this is long enough for you.)

Equid's Name: Birch
Height: 14 hh
Gender: Stallion
Age: Let's do 3 1/2 years
Story:
Birch ran through the trees. His heart was pounding in his chest, his sides heaving in an attempt to get more air. The equid's eyes were wide, and his nostrils flaring. Every wild instinct in his body urged Birch to turn back, to get away from what was above him. Birch looked up, and saw that the trees were bent almost in half as the wind caught the leafs and the branches, and the clouds turning an ugly shade of black and green. The birch wood colored equid was almost there. Birch felt the cold wind blowing through his mane, sending chills up his spine. The wind was carying an air of panic. Birch darted to the side, his paws slipping on the soil. There were clouds of bright blue terrified jays, trying to get as far away from the place, as the clouds promiced, that would soon become a place of terror. Birch saw his destination, miles ahead. A large, grassy, dark looking hill loomed over a lake. The grass was a sick shade of blue grey, the wind turning it into an ocean. Closer to him, however, the lake was horribly rippling, and was refelecting the swirling wall of clouds over head. As Birch got closer to the edge of the raging water, he risked a look at the mass of cotten like clouds above him. Yes, it was all perfect. The clouds were so green that they put even the brightest pickle to shame. They were forming odd shapes, as if long, wicked fingers were reaching out of them, beckoning him foreword. His hoof hit the icy water as he propelled himself off of the shore. Birch had to do everything he could not to give up, and give into his natrual instincs. The friget water numbed Birch's leg almost immediately. The same thing happened to each of his hooves and legs as he ventured farther into the lake. He closed his eyes as the spray from the water covered his face. Birch blinked a few times, his long eyelashes spraying small, pearl like droplets of water into the air. Birch was almost across. The water was up to his chest. Birch felt a flood of relief sweep over him as he felt his hoof hit dirt. The sweet alure of solid ground. The feel of something more then feet of death surounding him. The wind was getting worse, tangling the equid's mane and tail as it whipped around, and very possably even through, him. Birch picked up speed as the first bolt of dry lightning flashed across the sky. Almost there... If he had been tired before, that was nothing compared to now. His mussels were screaming at him for a break, but he kept going. One jump and he would be there. He felt his hooves find a solid spot in the grassy hill side. He launched himself through the air, the winds almost deafening now. Birch felt his front hooves latch onto gravel, and he pulled the rest of his body onto the gravely hill. Just in time. The winds swirling, the dry lightning cracking, the thunder blaring, Birch reared, letting the lightning crack around him. This is what this majestic equid loves most. Birch took off running after that one rear, down the other side of the hill. As he entered a blowing, flowery feild, He looked behind him. He had ran just in time. Upon the hill, a funnel cloud was forming, streching down.

Equid's Name: Dune (I live in the desert and wow, he completely resembles it.)
Height: 14 hh
Gender: Stallion
Age: 7 years
Story: Hot, brisk wind caressed his coat in the way someone would lightly brush their fingers against your skin, tender, loving. A deep nicker escaped the stallions white tipped mouth, sand rising up and having a almost fog-like effect as he galloped over the terrain. He threw his head up, his hooves sinking into the warm, bright yellow sand each time he put his hoof down. His mane stuck to his skin, being thrown down as he galloped. The sun was bright overhead, the heat sinking into his colorful assortment of hairs. He slowed only briefly, and that was to climb. He almost melded into the sand as he climbed the steep dunes, pushing himself forward slowly and sturdily. Once at the top he ran across the mountains of ever present sand once more, kicking up a fuss within his muscles and the ground beneath him. From the distance he looked like a blur, like he belonged running across the sand. If someone were to get closer to the tall, majestic equine, they'd say a smile seemed to touch his face as he ran across the tall yellow entity, as if he was above the world and all of his issues flew away as he freed himself of his constraints.
