Drizzle wrote:1. How long have you been making art?
Since grade-school. I used to draw stories of what I thought my pet dog did while I was at school. XD I haven't stopped drawing canines since~.

2. What do you like about making art?
I like that there's always something new to learn. It's never static!

3. What inspired you to do this artwork?
I was actually hugely inspired by Apache's Love Life drawing. Not only her message, but also her use of bright, exciting colors really spoke to me.

4. What do you want to improve on - if anything?
I really want to explore shading. I feel like I've gotten lazy with my shading style right now, so I think it's time to try something new. C:

5. What advice would you give to a beginning artist?
Never give up. Keep trying, keep exploring techniques, keep trying to get better! DeviantART and other sites have a huge amount of reference materials, including videos and step-by-step procedures for drawing literally anything you could want to try. Don't get discouraged, go out there and give it a shot!

I hope those answers are detailed enough! <3 Let me know if you need anything else~.

Raven Feather wrote:1) What inspired you to make this artshop/line-arts?
Well I do event lines every year. I did lines for the summer event and I decided I'd do lines for the Halloween event too. I find doing the color ins fun and kinda a way to get my mind off stuff. As well as a way to get things I miss from the event.

2) How many art do you think you'll sell this Halloween? And why?
I'm not too sure how many i'll sell. It Varies really. sometimes i do alot and others i dont do many at all. So far I haven't done many. Im not sure why maybe it's my prices or maybe it's just my lines.

3) Which of the lines is your favorite? And which would you recommend to people?
My favorite lines would be my "Chibi Candies" Lines! I just love the way they came out. I'm rather proud of them. I would defiantly recommend them to people who were interested!
Image
(Edits are available for free on these)

4) Any plans on new line-arts this halloween? Or saving more for next year?
I may do more lines but I may not. The 3 lines I have up now came from random doodles i did! I liked the way they came out so i lined them and made them fit the Halloween theme! I'll be doing more next year and for the other up coming events!

5) Do you have any more comments, things you want people to know about your shop or something you wanted to have said?
I don't think my prices are too bad, at the moment all the payment options get you 2 color-ins! The harder to get pets can get you up to 5 color-ins when they are a payment option. Edits are available for free on 2 out of 3 of my lines. And the one that doesn't have edits has multiple costumes to choose from. I am always open for suggestions on new lines of different ways to go about doing things! So if anyone has any suggestions feel free to pm me or post on the artshop!

The_Tide_Keeper wrote:Yay, okay then;

My inspiration for pups first halloween was kind of sad lol. I did the typical artist thing and knew I wanted an event shop but didn't have a template... and my canine skills are really lacking so I was kind of stuck xD. Despite my terrible understanding of canine anatomy I decided it would be a good idea to try and do it completely by myself. The first template was terrible. I revamped and drew a normal wolf, but decided to add a puppy modification option. That modification was a hit but I didn't like it much, so I simplified it and shrunk it down to what I've got now; this one has gone over much better than the other version :3

I think I'm at like 60 pups sold right now? That's probably where things are going to drop off, because Halloween is coming soon. I could have never hoped for a reception like this though, it went much better than I was expecting and honestly if I had worked harder and been open more this season I think I could have hit 100.

If I had to pick my favorite costume, I would pick the monster. I mean isn't it the cutest? XD If I had to make a recomendation, I would suggest the mummy with a treat bucket added on because that looks good with every character :3

No new costumes. No time to add them, but I've got a very original idea for a set of christmas templates that I'm sure will go over well but I don't know if I will have the time to run another shop :c.

That's all, thanks for including me in the Gazette <3

My locket.
My key to my past.
It holds my only true possession.
A tiny picture of my family.
Or what was once my family.
I don't even know the meaning of that word anymore.
All it is to me is a bunch of syllables, hollow, with no meaning.
Worst of all, he took it.
The thief.
He's a mysterious, dark figure.
He prowls the cobblestone streets of our city.
Stealing valuables.
Prized possessions.
But I don't know why he would steal my locket.
Especially on such a stormy day.
The dark clouds erupt in a clap of thunder.
Torrents of rain beat the roof.
Drum, drum, drum.
I shiver.
It's so cold.
Especially since my family is gone.
Why did they lock me in the house?
On the day of the big storm?
With a criminal scouring the streets?
What does it mean?
All I can ask,
is what sort of family would abandon their daughter?
The rain is falling harder now.
It leaks in from the roof.
It drips down the walls.
The walls I helped paint with Father.
I grab my backpack,
full of some of my things.
I know that this thief has it out for me.
And that my family abandoned me,
trapped me in my own home, possibly to die.
This storm will be brutal,
fatal,
But I'll survive.
And then they'll see.

They'll all see.

1. Is there more to the story/do you plan to continue it?
You know, I haven't thought too much about the continuation of it, but it's certainly a possibility once I work up the drive to do it. Reading it over again, I can see potential for a part two. c: I have a few ideas stored in the back of my mind.

2. What was your inspiration for the story/theme?
I was in the mood to write something mysterious and with a hint of darkness, so this was the outcome of my current feelings. cx Often, my writing mood varies by quite a bit, so this was just what came up. As for inspiration, I had been looking at some old, black and white pictures that day, and to me, they seemed to portray an almost eerie feeling. I wanted to write something eerie as well. <3

3. Why did you choose these two pets in particular?
I chose the first one, the female, simply because she is one of my favorite dogs on the site. I love her color scheme, and she just seemed very feminine to me, so she was my choice female model.
For the other, the male, as you know, his design depicts him wearing clothes, so I had no need to dress him up as the thief. cx He's also very slick and handsome looking, and I just thought that he would make the perfect character for the story.

4. Can you briefly describe the two characters' personalities?
The female is very crafty and strong-willed. She's almost always up for a challenge, be it a life-or-death situation, or helping out a friend with some project. Even though she's sporty and sly though, she does have a love for pretty bangles, particularly ones that clip into her hair, as you can see. Even with all these good points though, she does tend to let her temper flare once and awhile.
Now, the male is very quiet, always slinking around in the shadows. He doesn't talk much, but once he sets his mind on something, you can be sure he'll get it done. He can be cunning and vicious, though not to the ones he loves; he'll care for them deeply and whole-heartedly.

5. How do you feel about the pairings chemistry as a whole? Is there a specific relationship genre you feel they fall under?
At the point in the story I've written so far, they don't know each other very well. The girl merely knows him as a thief, but the male knows her far better than she thinks. Mysterious ouo So, they don't really have a personal relationship yet, but if I write more, they will get to know each other.

6. Do you have any other pet pairings of yours that you are particularly fond of? (please link to these if so)
I have this one pairing that I am very fond and proud of <33
Click here; it's the one involving the glowing green cat and the brown and green cat.
Part one is in the quote box, and part two is below for anyone who's interested. ;B

1. What was your inspiration for your fursona?
I actually didn't design her. Sona Lua was given to me by my friend, Princess Luna, years ago. Another friend, Shinkei-Shinto, gave her a small revamp and I've been head over heels for her design ever since!

2. Is there any special symbolism or meaning for his/her coloring, or props?
Since she wasn't specifically designed for me not really, but at the same time some of her markings have important symbolism to me anyways (such as stripes, spots, and the freckle-ish markings around her face). There's much more symbolism and meaning in her personality and story, like how she interacts with her mate and kids.

3. What is your fursona's personality?
The word that sums Sona Lua up best is definitely 'goofy'! She's a big cuddly sweetheart who loves to have fun and joke around. She loves every holiday, no matter how small, and celebrates them all in ridiculous over-the-top ways. Halloween is her favorite holiday since she absolutely loves sweets, but Valentine's Day is a close second because her favorite candy is candy hearts. She's also got a huge love for silly puns and will take every opportunity to make others cringe over them. Her mate and kids mean more to her than anything.

4. Do you have a favorite aspect of your Sona Lua?

Personality-wise, I love how much fun she is. Most of my other characters are a lot more serious than she is, but Sona Lua is 100% goofy all the time. My favorite parts of her design are her striped front legs and the markings on her tail.

5. In what ways are aspects of your own personality reflected through your charrie?
I love puns, being silly, candy, and family just like she does, but if you compared those aspects of our personalities her's is a huge exaggeration of mine.

6. Is your character special to you in any way, or simply a fun OC?
She's one of my most special and beloved characters by far. One of my favorite things to do is drown her in art, especially color-ins of event linearts here on CS. Her family (Sona Lua, her mate Riley, and their three kids Lei, Mint, and Pasta) should reach 100 individual pieces before the Halloween event ends! I'm hoping to hit 200 before the end of 2014. :) None of my other characters even come close; Sona is spoiled!

Welcome to the newest Issue of The CS Gazette. Published Nov 1, 2013.

Monthly Pet Reviews

Our monthly Reviewers are DaDwarf, CalicoWolf and Sweet Release!
For this issue, we had two guest reviewers; Atome and LeBlanc!

Newborns

Written by our guest artist LeBlanc!

The newborn stage rat is certainly a change from what we've usually had. Apart from the faded designs we often get, the design itself is interesting. I particularly like the skull-like marking that is on the babies' faces; it's very nice for Halloween! As the days went by, the rats would change in color, which I found helpful to get all of the outcomes. The design is simple and nice, though I would've liked more vibrant colors. Other than that, they're lovely.

When I look at this foal, the first thing that comes to mind is natural colors, which I generally really like in horse outcomes, the creative ones and colorful outcomes are always fun to see, but natural colors somehow attract me just that little bit more, so I am very pleased. We can see a white base color with variations of brown flecks and black spots, this makes me very curious to see what they will grow up to be, at least one outcome of each color visible in the foal would be my expectation. I love designs like this, they're very subtle and often bring out beautiful outcomes when they're grown up.

2nd stage

Written by guest reviewer Atome!

I thought that the middle stage of the ponies were very cute and well thought-out. They clearly showed growth with the plants on their bodies, which made it easy to identify which growth was which. While I do think that the idea could have been brought about a bit differently in manner, I do believe these ponies were quite a refreshing change from the normal ponies that we get.

Now this is one of my favorite things on CS, creative second stage butterfly wolves! Normally we get the standard green cocoons so every time something differs from the ordinary, it tends to make me very very curious to the grown stages. The silverish white color of the cocoon may give us a nice clue for the base color of all three outcomes, then on the first one we see a faint purple pattern, while the other two show a salmon/orange color and bright blue. The variations in patterns tells us the adult stages will not all three carry the same pattern design either, but will probably all fit within the same base and style. Very curious to see what these become...

I absolutely love Butterfly wolves, they're some of my favorite species on CS, creative fantasy, so they're always nice to see how they've turned out. Looking at the parents the expectation brought with it shades of green, purple, and striped patterns, and this was exactly what we got! With no less than 5 outcomes. I really like how the green and purple go together and the shades that were chosen for the butterfly wolves that come with both colors. They're very soft and appealing colors, which I think works really well together. If I had to pick a favorite it would either be the purple one with black stripes, just because I'm a big big fan of purple and stripey designs. But the best combination of parents would in my opinion be the first BW shown above. I love how well these shades of green and purple go together and the design on it is just so very wonderful, I could stare at it for a good long while and just admire how brilliantly it blends and represents features of both parents.

Our item reviewer Enyo The First. has reviewed a set of items for us again this month!

So if this wasn't apparent by my previous review, as well as my reviews in the past... I like weaponry.
I'm stating this to just point out that my lenses are totally skewed whenever I review weaponry and/or armor. This also means I can write these quickly. Like, you know, when I spent two hours on Calculus and it's the night before Halloween Eve and I'm kind of in a spot-- go!

Now this review will be covering the scythes available in the store. Due to a mix-up in my last review I feel obligated to at least give a full review on these items to correct my own wrong. This review will be split up into my standard parts, one covering the birds and one covering the plasma's.

ImageImage
For the birds.
The bird scythes are probably the lesser of the two sets, but being second place which is equal to last place is kind of a good thing and kind of a bad thing and this is rambling and I should stop now. My point is that even though I personally don't like these all that much it does not mean they are by any means bad. The shaping of the scythes' blades and main frame is very nicely done. The little spikes that look like feathers are quite nice touches, even if details like that are few. My main gripe with these three blades is that... they are three blades, the same three blades, just in different colors. Not only that but the colors aren't really too different. I would have preferred some vibrant colors along with these natural colors, the splash of variety would have just made this set more enjoyable and useful for me-- more bird-like.

ImageImage
I have no clever puns for plasma.
Now onto the plasma scythes-- my personal favorite of the two. Despite the fact these scythes all have the same structure to them... I still find myself liking them more because of the reason I stated not really liking the birds. Commas are officially my enemy as I type this just as fast as I would speak it. Stream of consciousness reviews are what I do. While all of these blades have bright colors, they are different enough that they would warrant different pets to be used with them-- I could not use a purple scythe and a green scythe on the same pet... mostly. I love my variety to items, and when the colors are different enough I don't mind getting more of them. I would also like to point out that I simply adore that little extra effect at the end of the plasma, just saying-- it really looks nice on a black, or just dark, backdrop.

... so Happy Halloween.
Use a scythe on your Headless Horseman to behead everyone else's trick-or-treaters?
I don't know. I give the store scythes a combined grade of B+.

The store pets once again brought a stunning outcome list, and once more it was completely unique to itself! Made by the ever fabulous Ricorn, our very own ninja, this is our first store litter of rats. “I wanted to try and do some autumn bringers.” Ricorn said to the lovers of this litter on the monthly discussions. And so, let’s get down to the inspirations of these gorgeous designs.

Let us begin with common grounds. This is our first rat store pets, and as such they had to have a special pop to them in edits or theme. The paws and tails hang below the rats as they appear to take flight on extremely graceful wings. Not one rat had even the same shape to these gossamer appendages, and even the ears have edits. And it is from these we can see the ideas of each as Autumn’s Bringers. The following are the rats by the role by which they each play in the season.

“The one who changes the leaves from green to gold.”
The first of the litter took on the most natural tones, being brown with pink paws at the core. Its simple design stood out by it’s swirling color speckles along it’s back, like fallen leaves. In the same style the wings are like the dried leaves, and when you look closely you can see the veins and the many colors worked into them. The thought and detail are subtle, yet stunning, making this a must have for any earthy person that crunches in the leaves.

“The one who spins the spider webs.”
The dark elegance of this beauty is once more one of its own. Its pure black base is perfect for it’s webbed wings and the dew drops, making it like the night sky. You don’t appreciate the true detail until you zoom in on the image and examine the web for yourself, so craftily weaved throughout and in many shades of gray. The tattered wings themselves are show stoppers, for they remind of a jet stone traced so carefully with silver to form a pendant. The dark beauty here is one that anyone can appreciate.

“The one who brings in the frost.”
This may have been the more confusing of the litter, what with it’s paler colors and markings in appealing browns. The wings are dual colored unlike the others, a fine combo of orange and red that is mellow. But what shows the role of this rat is its fine dappling of tiny silvery ice crystals. They are only about the edges of the design, but it therefore gives the look of a leaf after the first frost with bitten edges. Though it seems more colorful than the others, it certainly has a place among them as a beautiful addition.

“The one who covers everything in snow and ice when everything is done.”
Though this one only comes out after the others, it cannot be denied for its quiet coming. Pale blue, pink, and white are the main colors of the pet, and like the frost and leaf turner, you can pick out the tiny snowdrops upon the back and body. The wings are perhaps the most special part of this. They can give the feeling of a frosted window such as when you awake to a new snow in the morning, the sky blue and clear. It’s simpler than the others, and seems to have little special, but it’s simplicity balances a litter of dark and earth with a heavenly feeling.

It’s so clear these were the perfect choice of store pets as cold weather moved in with cider and fires. These unique rats are true to their names and offer a huge deal of symbolism that can be hard to spot. Want these beauties? No problem; you have until December to adopt these one of a kind pets! And for any collector, they aren't something to be missed.

Featured artist/artshop
Written by DaDwarf

This month we have 2 Artshop features! Based on reviews we received last month, I've decided to randomly selected two shops on the first 5 pages of the CS artshop forum. The two I picked are Raven's Foggy Forest, owned by Raven Feather and Pups first Halloween, which is owned by The_Tide_Keeper. Again, these shops were randomly clicked, I opened 5 shops from the first 5 pages and randomly closed tabs until two were left C:

Raven Feather with their shop, Raven's Foggy Forest!

Raven has a nice little shop, with 3 line-arts. All are halloween themed, and one of the line-arts is even dress-able with different costumes!

I've asked Raven some questions, and this is what she wrote back!

1) What inspired you to make this artshop/line-arts?

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions Raven! I have to say, I really love all 3 of your lines. I think your prices are very reasonable and my personal favorite would be the costume headshot! It is adorable!

The_Tide_Keeper, with their shop, Pups first Halloween!

I asked The_Tide_Keeper the same set of questions!

1) What inspired you to make this artshop/line-arts?
My inspiration for pups first halloween was kind of sad lol. I did the typical artist thing and knew I wanted an event shop but didn't have a template... and my canine skills are really lacking so I was kind of stuck xD. Despite my terrible understanding of canine anatomy I decided it would be a good idea to try and do it completely by myself. The first template was terrible. I revamped and drew a normal wolf, but decided to add a puppy modification option. That modification was a hit but I didn't like it much, so I simplified it and shrunk it down to what I've got now; this one has gone over much better than the other version :3

2) How many art do you think you'll sell this Halloween? And why?
I think I'm at like 60 pups sold right now? That's probably where things are going to drop off, because Halloween is coming soon. I could have never hoped for a reception like this though, it went much better than I was expecting and honestly if I had worked harder and been open more this season I think I could have hit 100.

3) Which of the lines is your favorite? And which would you recommend to people?
If I had to pick my favorite costume, I would pick the monster. I mean isn't it the cutest? XD If I had to make a recommendation, I would suggest the mummy with a treat bucket added on because that looks good with every character :3

4) Any plans on new line-arts this halloween? Or saving more for next year?
No new costumes. No time to add them, but I've got a very original idea for a set of christmas templates that I'm sure will go over well but I don't know if I will have the time to run another shop :c.

That's all, thanks for including me in the Gazette <3

Thank you! Your lines are adorable, You've got so many options and they are all so precious! My favorites are the batman outfit and the mad scientist! The price is more than fine as I know the amount of work that goes into editable art like this xD I hope you'll extend your lines to include christmas and easter costumes and hope to see your shop next year!

I'm interviewing one of our Oekaki mods, Drizzle, about her gorgeous art! The reason this artwork popped out at me are the vibrant colours and the expression on the face, it draws you in to look at the dog, and each time I glance it over I discover new details. I love the wide spectrum of colours used and how well they all work together!

Thank you for letting me interview you! As I said I personally love this artwork and the attention for detail, I hope you all enjoy it as well! If you know or see Artwork on Oekaki that you think deserves to be in the CS Gazette, feel free to PM me (Sweet Release)!
