Imagine you're on a boat. It's a sunny day in the tropical area or the world, and currently you are speeding through the crystal clear water on a joy ride. In the distance, only a lone shape pierces the horizon, odd, seeing as there wasn't supposed to be anything for miles around.
"Head towards that!" You shout to the captain, pointing to the mysterious object. He looks uneasy, but does as you say, mumbling that it will take around half an hour. You smile, heading below deck to see the world below. You gasp as fish dart by and the odd shark eyes you as you intrude upon it's reef. This really was paradise.
The boat slows down and you head back up, surprised it didn't take nearly as long as you thought. Must have been daydreaming again. Your eyebrows furrow in confusion. What was this place?
"A volcano I should suspect," the captain says gruffly. Oh, you must have said that out loud.
You get off, thanking the captain of the small boat. A thin layer of old soot covers the grass, and you leave footprints like one would walking through grass on a dewy morning. A small rainforest surrounds the volcano, housing all sorts of life. Tall trees drip tiny droplets of water and stunning waterfalls can be heard. But that's not the only thing you can hear. The rainforest is alive with life, a monkey or two here, some snakes there. The sounds of the forest are like music to your weary city ears and you flick water from your damp hair. You breathe deeply, the earthy smell of this tropical island almost beckoning you to continue to it's heart, that odd extinct volcano. You tell the driver to wait for you, and he unhappily agrees.
As you plunge deeper into the rainforest, your worries are swept away from you like the water cascading down the rocks. You become aware of shadows moving about in the near undergrowth, but you shrug the feeling of being watched off, probably just some
spider monkeys or something. When you finally reach the enormous volcano, you wonder why this isn't considered a wonder of the world. The whole island is amazing, and completely uninhabited by civilisation! As you walk around the rim of the volcano, you see a small cave in the side. Maybe it would help you too see more of this amazing island from a higher place. You start your short trek to the cave, but as you reach it you hear footsteps behind you. Just as you are about to turn back to the rainforest, you see a sharp spear being pointed at you from your peripheral vision. Unfortunately, your attacker knows where your blind spot is. After a sharp intake of breathe, you slowly turn around to the beautiful forest again with your hands up.
"Who- who are you?" You stutter, looking around for someone.
"Down here! Keep your hands where I can see them!" A squeaky voice commands, you look down, seeing a stunning fluffy dragon at your feet. "What business have you here?"
It takes all of your might to stop yourself from squishing the cute ball of fluff to you and hugging him. "I- I don't mean to intrude, I just wanted a look around," You whisper, eye the spear suspiciously. It looked like it could seriously hurt someone. The small thing leads you into the cave, torches adorning the wall covered in drawings. Amazing drawings of the volcano and life around it. It seems that this thing lives in a sort of tribe inside the volcano.
You talk with the leader, and she deems you trustworthy. The small
thing Jellybean Dragon, who you now know as Jarvis, tours you around their home. When you reach the lip of the volcano you gasp at the setting sun, making the views even more spectacular. You could see everything from here, even your boat. Your boat!
You invite Jarvis back to your world, out of this magical place and to the horror that is human kind. He politely declines, saying his heart lives and breathes in this place, and to leave would be like ripping it from his small fluffy body. You're shocked at the description, but you tell him you will visit soon. You race through the rainforest, wishing you didn't have to leave so soon. Past the monkeys, past the rushing waterfall, and past the edge of the forest. The captain looks furious, but says nothing as he speeds away back to the port. As you look back one last time, you swear you can see Jarvis standing upon the volcano, watching you as you leave his home, not for the last time. You go back more than once, and you find that Jarvis is right, the island is in all of the tribes dragons' hearts. Many a time you wish you could stay forever, and your trips are never any less stunning than the last. Such is the way of the island, it draws you into it's beauty and never lets you out again. You find more than once that it occupies your mind, it slowly becoming part of your heart as well.
