History
The gray bean took center stage and held the silver microphone close to his face as he let his breath play the notes of his broken soul. He began to sing and tap his foot eagerly to the beat of the rhythm the drummer played. They were a jam that had lived through hell, who had dumbfounded and twisted the odds between their grimy, life drenched and freedom writhing minds.
"I don't hate you, no!" He smiled, his white teeth gleaming as his dark eyes and tattooed tongue stuck out. The crowd went wild as the group of beans struck their own final poses and soaked in the attention. He shook his purple mane to impress those in the front row. Though he had his golden eyes trailed on the back few rows where a mysterious teen bean smiled and blushed, her intense blue eyes glittering with the passion for music.
It kills me not to know this but I've all but just forgotten
What the color of her eyes were and her scars or how she got them...
He was snapped out of his trance as the doors were forced open and a loud slamming sound resounded from the only exit. There stood about three to five humans that were equipped with fire retardant suits and large nets. "Capture as many as you can carry.." one of them muttered as the crowds of dragons cried out in fear, scattering and zig zagging across the concert floor.
"Derek, com' on dude, les bail. These hu'mans oar frickin' crazy!" One of the band members pleaded in a British accent, the others already sneaking out of a secret emergency exit. He put his paw on Derek, but the dark colored male snapped his head back towards where the other female bean had been in the back. One of the humans had thrown a large fireproof netting over a large portion of them, the blue eyed female included. She pulled her ears back in fear as the other dragons were smothered against her. He jumped from the stage in anger as he tightened his grip on the microphone pole. His body rushing with adrenaline as he took shallow breaths; Derek swung the pole at the humans in attempts to stop them.
"Get away from them!" He spat bright white fire with his comment as one of the humans came from behind him, hitting him in the back of the head as his world went black.
Derek awoke in an all too familiar place, the stench of feces and sweat was pungent in the humid air. He tried to move but the space was too cramped, his limbs and tail bumping into beans left and right as he searched for her. It didn't take him long to spot her--on the outside of the cages where one of the humans held her up and began pulling things out of her pouch.
The dark bean growled and snarled, shoving his claws through the bars and pushing other beans out of his way as they gave him irritated or confused looks. "Let her go! Or I'll rip your throat out!"
One of the humans chuckled as he came up to the cage and ran a wooden stick across the bars, when he came close to Derek he tapped him hard on the nose with it. "Someone's a little testy..."
"Yo, Brandon, you might wanna come see this bro." The other human blinked, pulling something shiny out of the dragon's pouch. She squirmed awkwardly and frowned, feeling violated and uncomfortable.
"What is it now?? Can't you see I'm busy--" Brandon paused and looked over the collar. "Oh so you have a fancy name tag huh?"
"What should we do with her? We've never come across a dragon with a clear owner or home before. The cops might come looking for this one."
"A shame, she's such a pretty dame too. Well, she's not worth the trouble. Throw her out." Brandon sighed, putting the collar around her neck and fastening it. "You're a lucky girl. This isn't a place for beans with loving homes like you. Go on home now. Git!" he opened the front door and shoved her out, closing the door behind her.
Derek felt another snarl coming up as the hairs on the nape of his neck rose. The dark bean sighed inwardly, at least she would live another day not having to know what his life was like. He didn't understand why the humans said what they did or why they let her go. But he was grateful she got away. "My blue eyed gem, may our paths cross again..."
As the telling signs of age rain down a single tear is dropping
Through the valleys of an aging face that this world has forgotten.
There were deep gasping breaths muffled by small cries from the outside. Everything was dark, yet everything was still light. I could feel warmth, and movement that wasn't my own. As my small nubby claws raked at the outside from within my legs kicked with anticipation to see and hear everything around me. Then there was a loud crunching noise, the gray egg shell letting the bright light into the small space I had outgrown. As my feeble body shed my birth skin I let my eyes slowly adjust as I let out a small cry to match many others.
Other small lumps of mewling fur surrounded the small bean; humans flocked with notepads and clipboards. They 'ooe'ed and 'ahh'ed at the dragons with devilish grins and smirks. Little did the newborn bean know that he had begun life in a terrible, terrible place.
There is no reconciliation that will put me in my place
And there is no time like the present to drink these draining seconds
The hairless dragons grasped the nape of my neck roughly as many others and I were placed in a large wooden box with a small bowl of hard dry and tasteless pebbles along with a bowl of water to match. I could feel my whole body trembling, where were we going and why was it so cold? I tried my best to push a stray paw through one of the only venting holes in the wooden crate. The box was moving now as all of us scrambled to our feet and tried to keep balance. We were swung around in our new wooden home. The water and food was spilled as it soaked our fur and barraged our faces.
I could hear angry voices from outside as they carried us to our new destination. "Be careful with that! Can't you read?! F-R-A-G-I-L-E!" It smelled so strange outside, I wanted eagerly to know why so quickly I saw the light that it was taken from me.
But seldom do these words ring true when I'm constantly failing you
Like walls that we just can't break through until we disappear
Ragged breaths. Shaky breaths. Some stopped breathing altogether. When the box was re-opened only one other small bean and me were able to peer up at the place we had been transported to. Is this, home? No, this is Hell if it had a home on Earth. "Gross, looks like the whole batch we ordered didn't pull through. That's the last time we go to them for dragons." One of the white dressed humans replied in disgust as he covered his face. And when they didn't bring the others with us, I learned what death was.
But the day pressed on like crushing weights
For no man does it ever wait
Like memories of dying days
That deafen us like hurricanes
Merely a teen now, I felt a pounding in my chest as I waited for the worst. The scientists became my only sense of human contact, I learned to loathe it. The all too familiar cold metal harness was fastened to my muzzle to keep me from taking fire to the whole laboratory. At least the other beans and I had formed a jam and were working on escaping. Just one more day, the day when they would do their routine check-ups and clean the cages. Though for me, that day was too late to keep me from what was to come.
"Now strap him down, this is the newest technology in industry history! The hair growth formula we administered seems to work wonders too.." One gentleman gestured as he let his fingers smooth out my growing mane on top of my head. What were they plotting this time. They were only so cleverly careful and distant when it was something possibly life threatening. I vowed that no one else in our jam would die because of these scumbags.
"Well, since we finally perfected that cooling serum we should implement it immediately so to avoid any possible burns from the subject." The other scientist murmured, injecting something into my side. I felt a burning pain, a sudden surge and then a chill as my muscles convulsed for a moment then silence. It was too quiet. Before I could tell what was happening, they hinged my mouth open and forced my eyelids open. My body trembled with constant fear. Could this be it?? Was I born just to die here? As a simple subject with the wreched name of D3435??
My first thought was to bring forth some flames from my open maw to scare them or keep them away, but none came. I writhed in my restraints as I tensed every muscle of my very being to escape. Then there came a tiny humming sound, the constant buzzing driving me insane. Then I felt something touch my tongue, it burned hotter than any fire that rolled off of it before.
Bathed in flames we held the brand
Uncurled the fingers in your hand
Pressed into the flesh like sand
Now do you understand?
If animals could cry, then I could. Tears of blood. Tears of pain. The burning sensation on my tongue was currently being numbed by a rather large ice pack placed inside my mouth. It was a bittersweet mixture of cooling water and metal. My body was limp by now, I had given up. What use was it trying to fight what was destined to happen? "He's taking all this pretty well.." The one man, with many piercings raised his needle up again as he spoke soothing words, like aloe on a crisp sunburn. "Don't try to move too much or you could go blind from this whole ordeal.." he whispered under his breath to me, I merely turned my head slowly to him, studying his features. I would kill him for all of this. My escape would be his doom.
I couldn't see for days, not to mention constant "touch ups" to their sick game. Did they really enjoy all of this? The day quickly approached and our plan worked out smoothly. Me, as many others, had escaped the testing facility and quickly went into hiding. Most of us fled in different directions, some of us were probably re-captured. Though my closely knit jam made the most of it as freedom meant new beginnings, and new possibilities.
One thousand miles away
There's nothing left to say
But so much left that I don't know
A dark colored bean with unnaturally unruly hair sighed deeply. He glanced down the hilltop at the facility below that once retained him and his fellow beans. "Derek, bro. Wha'er you lookin' at?" One of the others came to him, sitting beside him as his eyes held a fire. A deep burning hatred.
"I want to kill them all, I want to destroy it."
"They're not wor'th it dude. Besides, a life in hidin' is be'er than no life at all. Right?" The british bean spoke softly, his words soaked with the truth.
"Yeah, but what other purpose do we have?" Derek raised a brow, he grimaced while waiting a decent answer from the brains of the group.
"We rock..." the other bean began, then pulled out an instrument. "An roll."
We never had a choice
This world is too much noise
It takes me under
It takes me under once again
So we traveled far from that horrid place, searching for a name of our own. Our small jam began making a name for itself and for once I finally felt like we were a part of something, something bigger. Something worth dying for. For music. And what I never really forgot that one day. Love.
So here I am, singing the same song that we all know, watching my blue-eyed gem from afar. New York was all that I hoped for and more. The best garbage to eat through and lots of places to avoid the law. But of course, you know me well enough to know it's not my choice.
I don't hate you
I don't hate you, no

Personality
Stubborn
Derek, overall, is a very particular bean. He will never give up unless it seems utterly hopeless or that it may cause him severe injury or death because of his lack of self control. He likes having his way and when others don't agree, he can get quite frustrated.
Passionate
When Derek finds something that interests him or that he likes, he will stop at no limit to acquire all that he needs to better understand that goal or achieve what he wants. I definitely wouldn't say he is lack luster in the romance department. If it pleases someone, he's all for it. Especially if it means he gets something out of it.
Possessive
Derek finds it easy to get attached to things, especially those he desires and if he can't have it, it only makes him want it more. He likes being in control and having control. Talk about taking every little detail into account to make things perfect to him. Can you say, OCD much?
Self-centered
Want to talk about how your day went? Well too bad, because unless you have something of interest to Derek he honestly doesn't care and doesn't want to hear about it. He likes to be complimented and appreciated by anyone and everyone. He knows he's got style and flare, he doesn't doubt it for a second. Derek likes to think the world revolves around him, and it just might.
Cocky
Derek loves, LOVES to take risks. This is including but not limited too: having multiple girlfriends, stealing and even just general harassment if he's bored. Talk about a love for stirring up trouble. You could almost say it's like his middle name. And if it means bothering humans in their natural habitat, count him in! He just can't stand them!
The Future
Hey, wink here. As you may know polar (and any guest judges you have looking at forms), when I adopt a new jbd, they are introduced into my household of beans. Kiwaro, Shima and Nayli currently live in a small apartment on the second floor with Simon who is my human character that takes care of the house. Sasha used to live there but has outgrown it and can no longer live there so she moved in with her former human Jim who is disabled (paralyzed from the waist down and practically blind) on a farm nearby. She soon moved out to the jbd chat under her oak tree she usually can be seen sitting under. (when I'm online anyways..)
If Derek were to find refuge in my "Jam" he would probably live alone not with Simon and them or with Sasha. He would probably keep chill until he met Sasha for the first "actual" time. He would probably become friends with Kiwaro and hang out with him until he went to get another piercing. There he would meet Britta again, yes again. Britta is another human character I own that I haven't really said or shown much of, I really should draw him sometime. Anyways, he was paid to offer service to the laboratory that Derek was held captive at, so I suspect some fun tension would arise there when the time came.
Other than that I feel he would have fun trying to earn Sasha's affection and attention. He would probably be constantly shot down but I find him having trouble giving up on that. He would also become a huge role model and influence for Shima in the future to come too. Not to mention the fiery relationship between how he feels about humans and how accepting both Sasha and Kiwaro are of theirs. If that doesn't sound fun enough for you I could totally see him getting multiple girlfriends along the way as a means of trying to make Sasha jealous. Who doesn't like drama in small doses? Maybe someone else can convince him Sasha isn't worth his time and to just move on or become mates with their bean?? I DARE them to try and persuade him!
If nothing seems to be working out romance wise for either Sasha or Derek I assume something will give and they will naturally just be drawn towards each other. Though nothing is set in stone, I'm interested to see how this all plays out. Originally, I'll be honest here, I waited a couple of days to a week before trying for Derek, waiting to see if he grew on me. Then I saw how hopeless Sasha seemed to be at getting a mate and decided I should tryout in hopes of winning so she could finally have a stable relationship. Believe me, the beginning of this would be no where near stable. Though as I have taken time to work with his form and listen to Rise Against's "Savoir" I have only grown more attached to him as a character and more than just merely "Sasha's backup". I do believe if I could ever feel close to having another dream bean than the one I already own, he would be it.
So yeah, that's my two cents. Just thought I should throw stuff out there.
