Why did I choose that name: She has a really distinct white mark on her rump, kinda like someone threw a bucket of paint all over it. It makes her look so cute! ^^

How she became a member of my little herd:
It was a cold winter's morning, with the landscape outside my bedroom window still, like to whole world itself had been frozen. The trees were dark in contrast with the white snow, which adorned the earth around me. The air was still. Not even a slight breeze could be felt on the air. Everything looked dead outside. Yet there was life. Out in the paddocks, my little Shetland herd stood. They looked so powerful for their size, with their long winter coats and their stocky builds. Like miniature winter warriors. It even put my racehorse, Frankella,to shame. She cowered in the shelter, her blanket wrapped tightly around her. Thoroughbreds weren't as tough, obviously.
Then, a strange shape caught my eyes. I looked down into the yard to see the shape of a Shetland pony. My immediate thought was that their was a break in the fence. I put my dressing gown on over my winter pyjamas and hurried down the stairs. I ran past Maisy the cat, who merely opened one eye as I passed her spot by the radiator. When I got outside, I looked over at the fence. To my surpise, there was no break in the fence. It was intact. I frowned, turing around to where the Shetalnd was standing. Upon looking at the poor creature, I could tell it wasn't one of mine. I could see that she was tied to the front gate. How long she'd been made to stand there was a mystery. I walked over to her softly and gaze her muzzle a rub. She seemed used to people handling her. Why had she been abandoned? She was friendly enough. Maybe her old owners couldn't look after her anymore. There was a note hanging down from her head collar: "Take care of our Splash."
After phoning the police and Redwings, the horse charity, I offered to take her on until the owners were tracked down. Redwings agreed immediately, as they were already full up on neglected and abused horses and ponies. The police agreed too, though they needed more convincing than the charity. I untied Splash (I guessed she got the name from the mark on her rump) and led her into the paddock. To my relief, the herd accepted her immediately and she seemed to be happy. I smiled. She could stay here if need be. There would always be a place for ponies like her.
As for the owners, the police were never able to track them down. Splash has remained an important part of my herd ever since. ^^
