Story:
Chapter 1 - A Long WalkSong was born in the depths of the night in the center of the jungle. Her pack were in the middle of a move after their territory had been taken from them by a rival pack. It was a depressing time when Song arrived. Everyone was tired and starving, no-one was looking forward to the arrival of another mouth to feed, if they could, except for their mother. Mongs mother's name was Melody, she was a sweet and gentle shmallgz with a great smile. Her farther was not well known to her, he was a traveler who would visit twice a year during spring and the winter months, stay a few days and leave. Song spent her first night curled up close to her mother under a tree, they were guarded well by the rest of the pack. There was not much rest the next day as they had too keep moving. It was a struggle for Song who had to carry younge River as she was much to young to walk or even see.
The pack traveled that way for a long time, it had to be months, little Song was raised while traveling, she had gotten to see a lot of places on her journeys and she very much enjoyed exploring. When she had got her legs she would happily skip along side her mother chasing the butterfly in the morning grass and chasing the other young Smallgz. If she wasn't doing that, the small Smallg was sleeping on her mothers back.
When she was a little older, the equivalent to teenage years the pack finally settled for a territory but Song was some-what disappointed, she had enjoyed the traveling and exploring. Song decided that she wasn't going to give it up and so decided that every day she would explore more and more around the territory until she had ran out of territory, and that was exactly what she did until she knew the entire territory like the back of her paw.Chapter 2 - The Outside WorldAfter getting bored of the territory she made the decision to go beyond and so one morning the small wolf slipped out of the den at her normal time, before the sun had rose, and made a sneaky break for the larger world. It was easy to escape, not many Smallgz were patrolling the perimeter. She slipped out through the north woods and once she was a few meters from the territory she was free to do as she pleased. She spent the day exploring the woods, it was pretty but the same as the woods on the inside and so she decided to head further and further into uncharted territory.
All of a sudden some-thing heavy dropped from the trees and landed on her. Song was flattened to the ground and her chest compressed making her feel winded.
"I'm so sorry" came a soft male voice as the heavy lump got off of her. A brown face with bright hazel eyes appeared in-front of hers. "Are you okay?" he asked with concern. Song slowly climbed back to her feet.
"Umm...yes, I think so" Song replied as she tried to catch her breath.
"I am terribly sorry" he was very apologetic. Song glanced over the unfamiliar Smallg that was all rusty brown with a creamy brown belly and chest.
"It's okay, accidents happen... Ho...How did that happen?" she seemed a little confused about where he had come from.
"I was kinda chasing squires but got stuck" he replied and looked up at the bent over tree, Song copied.
"Oh..." she replied.
"I don't believe we have met, are we in different packs?" he asked her, he was surprisingly calm about meeting a rival.
"I think so" Song replied and shook her head a little as if trying to get rid of the headache. The other Smallg nodded.
"I would say it's nice to meet you however I believe that there could had been a better way to meet you than falling on you..." he admitted. "...my names Harry" the other Smallg added.
"Song" she replied to him and slightly bounced her head in polite conversation. He smiled at her.
"Do you come here often? It's nice" he said. "Peaceful and heavenly, they say that this is where the spirits live although I have never seen any" he smiled sweetly.
"It is pretty" Song replied to him. He smiled at her once more. "I should really go now, my pack will be looking for me" she replied, she wasn't sure if it was true however she was slightly worried what others would think of the greeting. Harry looked a little down about that.
"Oh...that's fine...umm...I'll see you around then...well maybe...if you come back here..." he replied. "...I come here most days" he added as if hinting that he wanted to see her again. Song smiled at him.
"Maybe" she replied to him. "...bye..." she said sweetly before heading off quickly.
"Bye Song..." Harry replied and wanted her leave. "...Song..." he whispered to himself and smiled in memorizing her name.Chapter 3 - Saying GoodbyeSong headed back home to her pack. It turned out that no-one had even noticed she was gone, they were used to her exploring the territory so it was nothing unusual. It wasn't the last time she saw Harry, Song would head out on regular trips to go to see Harry. They became good friends that would spend the day playing and exploring together. It turned out that Harry was a scout member for his pack which is why they didn't notice his disappearance. Harry was sweet and they became great friends although she never mentioned it to her pack or even her mother, she knew that it was forbidden to interact with another member from another pack and so she never did.
A few months later Harry asked Song to meet her on sky rock at dark, he told her that he had some-thing important to tell her. Song agreed and that night she snuck out of her territory and climbed up the hill to reach sky rock. Sky rock was an amazing place, it was a large cliff overlooking the rest of the uncharted world, or at least thats what they believed. You could see everything up there, it was a special place for Song and Harry as they had found it together one day by accident and named it together. It was even prettier at night, the large full moon made it look like a masterpiece of art, a place inside a dream.
Harry arrived shortly after Song and hurried over. His usual happy tone had changed, he wasn't so happy and song picked up on it quickly.
"Is some-thing wrong?" Song asked almost instantly. Harry stood facing her but he didn't look at her, he looked out towards the moon.
"I'm going away but I need to tell you some-thing before I leave" Harry said softly and turned his head back to face her again. Song looked at him and as she did he looked away and back to the view again.
"Your leaving?" Song replied, she looked disappointed that he was going away. "For how long?" she asked her best friend.
"I don't know" he turned back to her once more. "My pack has been at war with another pack for a long time, even before I was born, they are sending me up there to fill in an empty place" Harry admitted. Song watched his emotional face, it took her a while to take it in.
"Are you scared?" was all Song could ask, it made him turn his head to meet her eyes for the first time ever.
"No..." he replied in a calm tone. "...I'm not scared because I have a reason to come home and I know that that reason will keep me safe..." he said to her in a soft tone and looked away again but then back at her briefly. Song smiled slightly at him understanding. He lowered his head down to her head height and his long scruffy fur covered his eyes that were looking into hers. "...because I have you to come back too!" Harry said looking at her and waiting for her reaction.
Song looked back at him in silence, she had a surprised facial expression but also one filled with emotion of the loss of some-one close to her. Harry was just watching her. Song slowly raised her head and gently licked him across the cheek, it made Harry open his eyes to look at her. He couldn't help but smile at her slightly.
"I love you Song" he said to her and pressed his forehead up against hers. "I'm sorry, I know this isn't a good time to have told you this but I needed to tell you before I leave" he admitted with a gentle tone and closed his eyes. "I promise that I will come back to you soon and when I do I promise that I will never leave again" he said to her. Song looked at him and smiled.
"I'll wait for you" she promised him in return. The sound of a call in the distance made both of their ears twitch.
"I'm sorry, I have to leave now" emotionally Harry broke the news to her. He licked her across the muzzle. "When I come back we will be forever together..." he promised "...my soulmate!" he whispered to her before painfully breaking himself away for her and slipping away into the woods with Song looking on with teary eyes.Chapter 4 - Trouble On The HorizonAuntm and winter passed by, not a word came back from the whereabouts of Harry. Unknown to Song, Harry's life had been ripped away from him a few days into the fight by a rival pack member. It was a tragic ending, one that went past with hardly anyone knowing or remembering much but Song clung tight onto the knowledge that one day Harry will return to her, it kept her going in life, it was her reason for staying persistent. Song had been up to sky rock every evening at the start of dark in the hopes that Harry may show up but there was nothing. Song's mother, River, was concerned about Song's nightly disappearances and was concerned because her daughter hadn't appeared to show any interest in any of the males within the pack, it was tradition for a member of their pack to get a mate around the age of one and Song was coming on 1 and a half now. This often caused a few issues between Song and her mother, her mother was persistently trying to discover why Song kept leaving every night, it was beginning to become a bother but Song wasn't breaking a word to anyone and kept up waiting for Harry.
One night when Song made her daily travels to sky rock there was unfamiliar chill in the air, it was some-what deathening but at the same time it had a strange calm about it. As Song sat down and looked out over the clouded sky she felt a presents next to her. For a seccond she turned her head around to see, partly see, a misty Shmallg figure standing next to her. She was pretty, completely white with icey blue eyes and a soft coat. She was invisible but yet visible, like mist or the wind.
The Shmallg was staring out in the same direction as Song. Song should had been afraid, she knew that she should be however she wasn't, it was a warm feeling, as if it was a normal situation.
"There's trouble on the horizon!" she had a soft and gentle tone to her voice, it was some-what hypnotic. Song was confused at her meaning. "You have two days and they will be here, if you prepare most of you will survive, if you don't all of you will die!" said the voice, there wasn't a tone change, the voice was completely soft and mellow.
"Who's coming?" Song asked, still not understanding.
"Two feet that run on four!" were the last words before the figure faded away into nothing. At that moment the sound of thundering hooves on the forest floor below and bright fire torches caught her attention.
"Humans!" she panicked!. Chapter 5 - Denial"Mother! Humans are coming!" Song shouted out quickly in terror as she raced up to her mother. River looked over at Song.
"Don't be silly, the humans have not been here for thousands of years, why would they come here now?" River said to her daughter calmly.
"No mum! A spirit told me!" Song blurted out. It made her mother stop drinking and raise her head to look at her daughter with worry.
"A spirit..." River replied with a wondrous face. "Song are you sure?" she asked.
"Yes mother, a spirit came to me and told me that the humans were coming, we need to get ready to fight or we will all die" she warned her.
"Song what is going on? Please tell me dear. I'm worried about you, we are all worried about you" she focused on her pup with worried eyes. "You disappear every night on your own, you disappear most of the day and don't tell anyone where you are going and now you are saying that spirits are talking to you, your scaring me, this is not normal" River claimed, there was clear emotional upset in her eyes that made Song feel heavy with guilt.
"I'm sorry mother, I can explain but I am scared that if I do you will be angry" she admitted and looked at the ground. "You just have to believe me" she hoped but her mother simply lowered her head to the side and made off feeling as if she had done some-thing wrong to cause her only family turn out so messed up. Song watched her, it hurt, a stabbing pain in her chest but she knew she needed to warn the others.
Racing across the grass she quickly found the leader of the pack, a now elder Shmallg, he was wise and noble. She bowed down and rolled over on her back, exposing her belly, in polite greeting to the aphority role.
"Alpha I have to tell you some-thing important! We are all in danger!" Song told him worryingly. The alpha quickly climbed to his wobbly feet, he was on his last legs.
"What is it? What danger?" he demanded to know very quickly! He voiced his fear well.
"Humans are coming!" she told him. He stared at her not too sure if she was making a joke.
"The humans have been gone for centuries, the humans have no place here and no reason for returning" he stated, it was just like her mother had said.
"Please alpha, we have two days and if we are not ready we will surely die!" Song was scared, she was scared now more than ever.
"And who told you such a ridiculous story" the alpha wondered.
"A ghost told me!" Song admitted awkwardly and looked at the floor. The alpha burst out into laughter and collapsed to a sitting position, his two assistance sniggered in the background and Song felt humiliated. "It's true....I saw them too" Song tried to tell them however they were to deep in laughter to listen.
She pulled back her ears even more and slowly slunk away into the bush and sat down. "Maybe I didn't see a spirit" Song wondered to herself. "It was late" she puzzled.
"It was the same time as usual that you go to sky rock" came the familiar soft and gentle voice. Song suddenly raised her head to look at the white misty figure that had appeared next to her. The figure was once again not looking at her, maybe to create a mysterious effect.
"They didn't believe me" Song told her and looked away at the ground, once again she felt settled around her.
"I saw, they all laughed at you" the spirit Shmallg replied to her.
"What should I do? How can I convince them that I am not lying" asked Song.
"That is some-thing I can not help you with. It is against my morals to change their minds, that is up to you to do..." said the figure. "...but if they choose not to believe you then that is their problem and they shall face the consequences for that" replied the ghostly creature. Song looked at her.
"But they will die!" Song voiced rather loudly and worryingly.
"And so they will..." she said before once again the spirit abandoned Song to her thoughts once again. Song let out a worrying sigh, it was all up to her.Chapter 6 - MemoriesSong desperately tried to convince them but convincing her pack however everyone either humoured her or expelled her warnings and labeled her as mentally ill and when the morning of the big day came everyone awoke and set out about doing their daily routine. The air was calm and their was no sign of any danger at all, it was a nice morning like all mornings were in the spring and the day traveled through peacefully for everyone, even Song seemed to relax after spending the morning counting every second and waiting for a sign that everything was about to become blood shed. After mid-day Song and her mother spent some time together, it was nice, they had not done that for so long and Song had given up on the rediculous idea that anything bad was going to happen however she probably shouldn't had.
The fist loud trumpet sound in the distance signaled the pack to stop what they were doing and become alert that some-thing wasn't right. Song looked at her mother who was staring back at her in horror. It was followed by a constant thundering sound that echoed for miles and didn't seem to stop, that was the signal of panic. The entire pack ran around in circles not knowing what to do, the shape of the valley made it hard for anyone to decide which way the sounds were coming from which only made it worst. Some tried to take cover in their dens although they knew it wasn't going to work for long and so instantly fled, it was difficult and everyone got mixed up in the flood of Shmallgz.
Song stood in the center of the crowed watching everyone galloping around waiting for their death. A large horse suddenly charged through the territory with a human on it's back and snatching up the Shmallgz by their tails. Shmallgz were often sold on the market as pets because many humans liked them and although they were allowed as pets, the Shmallgz caught in the wild were not allowed as humans worried that they may spread unwanted diseases or may be too dangerous to keep.
Song bolted off in the search for her mother. She was too scared to feel tired or to help anyone. She needed to find her mother and ensure she was safe. As the next man on a horse raced through and stole another couple of Shmallgz by their tails, she swapped directions and headed back. Weaving through everyone she struggled to see where she was going but she didn't give up. She was soon crushed under the paws of other Shmallgz who ran over her in the fuss to freedom.
"I'm so sorry!" it was a familiar voice that she knew all too well. Her blurred vision became more clear as she saw the familiar hazel eyes and brown face that belonged to Harry. "Are you okay?" But he looked different this time, he wasn't clear, he was just like the spirit, transparent.
"Harry..." Song replied to him, she was still disorientated but she was still happy to see him. She felt her emotions well up. "Your back!" she smiled at him.
"Run..." he said to her softly before he slowly faded away. Song saw him fading and struggled to her feet.
"Harry don't leave!" she cried out to thin air. She struggled forward in attempt to get closer to where he was and gained her feet a little more but was suddenly diverted when a horseman came charging in her direction. She wobbled a little before she took off towards the exit of the territory.
As she ran she could hear footsteps behind her. She quickly tried to pick up the pace, they were gaining on her and fast. Quickly some-one ran up beside her.
"I told you I was faster than you!" Harry's voice teased her as he dove through the trees after her.
"What happened to you?" Song asked partially distracted from the traumer behind her. "Harry, are you dead?" she asked him, it hurt to ask and she almost choked on her words but just as she got her words out it was all over. Some-thing grabbed tight to her tail and whipped her off the floor. She screamed out for Harry.
"...my soulmate!" Harry whispered to her but it was loud enough for her to be able to hear then turned and made off into the woods.Chapter 7 - The DreamcatcherSong suddenly jumped awake and almost hit her head on the solid top of the rusty old metal cage that was only lit slightly by her glowing green nose and the light that came through a small crack where the sheet had not covered completely around all of the cage bars. Song slowly climbed partially to her feet and attempted half a stretch before circling around in the small cage and sitting back at the back of the cage leaning against the rusty metal polls. She glanced up at the top right corner of the cage where a small dreamcatcher made with a brown wooden ring, woolen string and three small green feathers, it had been a gift from her mother when she was just a pup.
"I miss you mother" Song whispered to herself.
"I miss you too" came the soft spoken words from a faded figure that now appeared to be sitting opposite her all hunch backed because of the cage top. Song looked down and over at Harry's spirit.
"I just wish the dreams would stop, it just reminds me of the life I never had!"Other: Sorry I wasn't expecting it to be so long, I just got writing and I couldn't stop. I think it's a bit depressing, especially the twist at the end but I hope it's okay. :)
Sorry for my slow response time on RP's. My new job steals ALL my time. :(
