Madeline stumbled up onto the stage, feeling as though she would puke, any moment now. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw her orchestra teacher glare at her. Huffing, Madeline sat down in her chair. It wasn't like being late was her fault! Her brothers always came first, even if violin was the one thing that truly mattered to Madeline. At least she had showed up. Last time, Madeline's mother told her that she needed to wait until her youngest brother's baseball game was over. Which was when the concert ended, too!
"Attention, attention all! We apologize for the delay, but now, let me introduce to you, Miss Madeline! She will be our solo-ist for tonight." Knowing her cue, Madeline picked up her bow, and slid it across the bridge of her violin. And then, she took off. When she played violin, it was like Madeline escaped to another world. There was no hateful mother, no annoying little brothers. No judging glares, no snickers behind her back. Madeline became one with the notes, she lived the music.
After some time, Madeline finally opened her eyes to see the crowd. There were faces of awe, faces of jealousy, but worst of all was her mother's face. It was a mixture of boredom and rage, with a hint of "you suck." Closing her eyes again, Madeline tried to sooth the monster inside, raging to get out and tear apart her mother. Madeline put those thoughts aside, and finished her piece. A standing ovation followed. The only ones not cheering was her family. Madeline knew, no matter how hard she tried, they never would.

I'm really upset. I had to leave my old school, and everyone else in my new class has bright, colorful fur and all I have is fur that has no color. I would mind it if they wouldn't make fun of me for it. I'll try not to be mad at them because it's not their fault, it's mine.

Hey Diary,
It's been awhile since I've written in you. I remember that I lost you after I wrote that little entry, but let me tell you what happened. I went outside one day, and I found this gigantic flower field! It had almost every color of flower in it. I sat down and started thinking. I realized that I was so focused on trying to be friends with everyone that I didn't understand that others might not like me and blamed it on myself. But I had great times in that field. My favorite thing that I learned was how to make a cute little floral headpiece. That place let me reflect on everything, and it still does.

Well, Wilted is not her true the first name she's had. She had been born to the name of Camellia, but she didn't think that it suited her. She thought it sounded to serious for her free personality, so she decided to change her name to Wilted to match her darker colors and flower patterns. It's been her name ever since she had to leave her family...

I padded through the forest, my pelt blending into the gray surroundings. I could faintly see my breath puffing out in front of me as I ducked under a low, sopping wet branch. The ground squished under my paws, damp from the rainfall last evening. I had been with my family then. We where outside, embracing the sky's gift as we goofed around in the lake nearby when the lighting struck the large pond. I was still able to see... I still don't know if my pelt itself had been drained of color or not. My sister had not been as lucky as me that day; she had lost her life, as did my mother and my father. I couldn't see where the water stole their bodies, but I could still faintly hear their screams of shock and surprise when the sky flashed white. I laid there for hours in grief and sorrow until the rain stopped when I decided to move. I couldn't stay at the den where I grew up with them; it brought up to many memories of us sleeping and playing together. I leaf brushed the top of my head, brining me back to the cold and lonely present. I we haunted by the calls of my family... they where always calling my name, weather to warn me of danger or to simply call me home for a dinner of berries and rodents. I felt like crying again as I paused near a fallen log. I decided that I couldn't keep my name; it brought back to many memories of them. I tried to think of what another name could be that would suit me now... I looked around at my gray surroundings, at my paws, at the world around me. I decided then. I'm Wilted.

-You might be wondering how Wilted could be so happy all the time because of what happened to her. It's something she wonders sometimes, too. She has learned to look on the positive side of things, even though her past sneaks up on her every so often.
