Pintos, like Palominos, are a color breed registry as opposed to a genetic breed registry. All pintos come from different breeds (i.e. Quarter Horses, Morgans, etc.), and they're more of a recognized color organization than an actual breed, like the American Paint Horse. (A Paint horse isn't always pinto. My horse is a half Paint and she is a solid dapple gray.)
