Owner: EnigmaticJackal
Horse's Name: Jolon -valley of the dead oaks
Height: 16.2h
Gender: Stallion
Rarity: Rare
Story: Centered for easier reading.

"You'er such a liar!" A foal called after a yearling roan colt. (keep in mind that the term yearling is a term used for 1-3 year old horses, I use it in that way, although some only call a 1 year old a yearling.)
Jolon twisted his head around with a desperate look on his face, "No, I'm telling the truth this time! I saw the old forest!" He cried, turning back to face an older champagne stallion. "Malcom you believe me right? You've traveled all around the desert, you must have seen the dead trees!" Malcom shook his head, "No, I must say I have never seen anything larger than a palm at the oasis." He took a step toward the yearling and smiled. "I am not saying I don't believe you, but sometimes imagination can take on a life of its own when you'er lost."
Jolon snorted and trotted past Malcom. "Well, I'm going back then! If nobody will believe me then I might as well bring a branch or twig back!" He shouted as he took off over the dunes.
As the sky began to darken Jolon felt the effects of heat exhaustion. Sweat shone on his dark coat, highlighting the edges of his neck and shoulders. His eyes began to close and he fell into a quiet heap. Jolon didn't know he had fallen asleep, but instead was dreaming. The yearling smiled as a soft haze surrounded his legs. This was the dead forest's mist, or at least a dream mist. He stared up at a giant broad trunk. Gnarled and twisted, it loomed over him, spreading its canopy of branches out over the entire petrified forest. He cantered around past each tree, inspecting it for a loose or broken branch. His dark eyes lit up when he spied a low hanging twig. As he reached to yank it off the tree suddenly sprung to life! Jolon screeched and scampered backward, the dead tree only grazed his cheek with an evil branch. He tripped and fell to the ground, the haze quickly engulfed him, rendering him blind to where the other trees were. Suddenly jolted from his slumber Jolon frantically stood back up and fled from the "forest". He would never realize that the valley of dead oaks was just his dreamland.

Your Name: Modest
Horse's Name: Ofelia
Height: 16.2h
Gender: female
Story:
Ofelia was being chased. She didn't know by who or what, but she galloped as fast as her beating heart could take her. The dust from the desert was kicked up, stinging her eyes, and the sun beat down harshly on her dark back. Ofelia ran faster and faster, but she was growing tired and weak. She soon heard the sound of hooves in pursue, which encouraged her to press on.
Ahead, she could see a distant dead-end. It was only a matter of time until whoever was chasing her would corner her. She panted deeply as she galloped, her muscles shivering under the heat.
Finally, exhaustion took over her body and she collapsed in the dry desert, not realizing how close she was to home.

Your Name: Serenaded By Angels
Horse's Name: Siriua
Height: 16.2h
Gender: mare
Story:
"Tell us granma! Tell us about your younger days again!" Came the shrill whinnies of the young foals of the herd. The old purple roan mare smiled as she perked her ears and looked around at the small crowd of eager listeners. "Alright little ones. Ill tell you a story of love and betrayal, of fights and flights, of battles and peace. This is the story of my younger days, the days when I roamed free over this land. The day I met him." Siriua said as she settled down on a soft patch of grass and closed her eyes as she remembered.

"I remember that night so clearly, there was a massive freak storm and my herd had been scattered. I spent days searching for a lost foal who had gotten separated from my small group as we were searching for the rest of the herd. That morning, I told one of the younger stallions to watch the group as I set off to find the foal, and as dusk settled, I came upon a handsome lone stallion who had found the foal and had taken him in. It wa love at first sight as I heard his deep, soothing voice as he welcomed me to stay the night. That night I settled down to sleep, knowing that the stallion would keep us safe. The next dawn, I awoke to find the stallion had not left and we headed back to our herd with the stallion.

Several months ha passed an I was heavy with my first foal who the stallion had fathered, when tradegy struck. A rouge stallion attacked and killed my mate and drove my herd into pieces. He didn't care about mares or foals, he was a demon who killed for joy. I ran as far away as I could, never forgetting my brave mate. Three months later, I brought a healthy, strong colt into the world, one who looked just like his father, and was as brave as him as well. An you all know who he is. He is now the lead stallion of this herd."
She said as she smiled as her son, now a perfect image of his dead father, nuzzled her. "Telling stories again mom? You're spoiling your grandsons you know." he said with humor. "I know, son. I know." She said as she smiled.

Postby Merlin's Heir » Thu Jun 13, 2013 1:26 pm

Your Name: Merlin's Heir
Horse's Name: Silence
Height: 16.2h
Gender: Stallion
Story: The colt's legs wobbled as he tediously struggled to stand. His legs splayed out and shaking unsteadily, the purple roan foal looked up at his mother. Pride and love for her son filled her bright eyes. She snorted gently as she reached out to nuzzle him. A proud, powerful stallion stepped towards them, his dark eyes studying the colt. He lowered his head to touch the colt, whispering, "my beautiful son," as he did so. The colt attempted to step forward, but his new legs gave way and he fell over again. He opened his mouth to call out for his mother's assistance, but no sound came from his tiny throat. The stallion, looming over the colt like a mountain, pulled his head back quickly and glanced at the mare. Her worried expression confirmed it. The colt was mute.
Strong, dark legs kicked up clumps of sunburnt sand as the colt galloped across the desert. A spray of the tiny rocks shot into the air as the determined horse turned sharply. He raced up the sunlit dune, his hooves pounding rhythmically into the soft sand. Exhausted blasts of hot breath blew from his black nostrils as he neared the top. A thundercloud of dust soared into the air as the roan slid to a top at the peak of the sandy hill. His brown-and-blue chest heaved as he drew in gasps of air. Tiny beads of sweat glittered on his coat. The white blanket on his hindquarters seemed to reflect the bright sunlight shining on it. Silence hung around him. He held his noble head high, looking up at the azure blanket that lay over the world. He blinked at the sun and looked down over the desolate land below. The desert. It was barren. It was hot. It was dry, dusty, harsh, and dangerous.
The tired colt tossed his head and half-reared, tearing at the sky with his hooves. He opened his mouth in a silent cry of glory and raced down the hill toward a tiny oasis in the shade. He splashed into the small pool of water, reveling in the comfort. The water lapped as his sand-coated legs, brushing off dust to reveal white markings and shining hooves. The horse lowered his head, dipping his dark muzzle into the relatively cool water and drinking. The desert was tough, bleak, and full of dangers. But the desert was Silence's home.

Your Name: 'skyy
Horse's Name: cheveyo
Height: 16.2h
Gender: stallion
Story:
There was a time when the Indians had never seen a horse. When the first Spanish explorers brought horses with them in their ships to this country the Indians looked with great wonder upon the strangers as they rode, and thought that the horse and the man on its back were one animal. As time passed the Indians learned their mistake, but it was long before they were able to get some of the strange animals for themselves and to find out how to talk to them.

There was once a great spotted horse that roamed the western plains. On his back were the tattered remains of what used to be a sky blue silken covering. The Indians of the country around never tried to catch him, but let him roam as he willed. To them this wild, free animal was a visitor from another land, from Spain, from a country which had sent powerful men in steel armor to them. Only one of the Indians had dared to ride the blue horse and he was the bravest of them all. When he died the Indians set the horse free, for there was fire in his eye and lightning in his hoofs.

Your Name:
SpartanAmethyst

Horse's Name:
Yareli
A Native American name meaning "uncertain".

Height:
16.2hh

Gender:
Mare

Story:
When Yareli was born, her mother told her that she was the harbinger of an eclipse, a period when the moon's light dissipated and the desert was plunged into the darkness. She was also told that she was born a deep black, darker than the midnight hour, and if it hadn't been for the fireflies, she would have never found her baby. But the darkness did not last forever. Yareli's first moment of light was a single ray from the moon, a small spot of light that illuminated her back and haunches. The herd had watched nervously at the un-marked foal, only to find that when the moon's light vanished again behind the clouds, a splash of white had formed where it had been. Of course, growing up, Yareli had never believed this story, but maybe she should have....

Whipping around to lend another fatal kick, she heard one of the pack go screaming into the darkness, the yelping wolf unable to move it's left foreleg. Her eyes shone with anger, a rage unsurpassed by anyone she had seen before. Luckily, she hadn't seen many other DAMs. She briefly glanced at Clara, who was running back to the safety of her fathers side, hiding underneath him. Yareli could feel the darkness rise higher as she continued to attack the wolves that had threatened the life of her adopted daughter, the white on her dark coat seeming to dim as she suddenly kicked out one last time, and one of the wolves fell. It laid there, not moving, not breathing, and the rest of the pack ran for their lives.

When it was safe, Alosaka returned with the foals. "I didn't expect you to fight for us," he said softly, and after a few moments she collapsed to the ground in tears. Moving closer to the mare, Alosaka nudged her softly and began to groom her neck, silently inquiring about what was wrong. "I hate feeling that darkness," she whispered, her delicate form shaking against the cold sand. "I hate that feeling of grim, murderous purpose that comes with my actions." There was a moment of silence before the fiery red stallion simply replied "You're still my light".

((For a little explanation: I based her around the whole "born under darkness, but trying to be good" sort of thing, hence her name.
Oh, and both Clara and Alosaka are my own.))

Re: DAM: Purple Roan Blanket

Postby Ralonica » Fri Jun 14, 2013 4:02 pm

Your Name: Ralonica Thorondor
Horse's Name: Jaspher
Height: 16.2h
Gender: Mare
Story:
The flick of an ear, the hint of a scent, and the jackals knew she was there. And they were hungry. You could see it from their protruding ribs, their skin stretched like a drum over hollow flanks. And their eyes. Beady, vicious eyes, sunken into their faces and filled with hunger. They were searching for her, with all of their being. They knew she was there, the young mustang. But she was different. They could smell it. They knew she would have more meat on her than their previous kills. Maybe it was her youth. Maybe it was the way her coat, like the first cold rays of dawn, stayed glorious even after being ravaged by hunger. Or maybe it was how her eyes, which refused to grow cold and hungry, still glowed with a defiant spark.
They did not know. Nor did they care.

The pack branched out, noses to the floor, as they followed the scent of the mare. They could hardly keep their tormented growls from turning into a loud clamour, as they searched for food, those who had not eaten a proper meal in days. But they could still work swiftly, and soon the pack of hungry creatures had surrounded the mare. She knew they were there. She had known as soon as the last escape route was blocked, as soon as she was trapped. But it was too late. You could tell she was nervous. But she didn't make a fuss. Did she know that it was hopeless? Did she want to die bravely, like a soldier? The ring of jackals around her grew tighter and tighter, and the mare grew closer to her doom.

Suddenly, her eyes flashed. A bright spark of light went through the deep brown eyes, and the jackals knew she was going to struggle. She wouldn't die willingly. And as she started skittering around, making tight circles to peer at her attackers, the jackals growls grew to an ominous noise, their snarls ever fiercer. But the mare didn't give up yet. They had nearly reached her, only a metre of freedom before the mare reached her enemies. But it was that last second, just as the closest jackal jumped for her beautiful hide.
The mare dashed towards the smallest, youngest, weakest and most inexperienced jackal of the pack. She leapt towards him, and all it took was a well-aimed kick before the jackal was on the ground, close to death - both from the drought and the mare's contributions. But before the pack could retaliate, before they could leap in hot pursuit, the mare was gone.
Faster than they could have hoped to follow.
