Anguis Lacerta(e)
The Anguis Lacerta (Lacertae when plural) is really a science experiment gone wrong. You see, scientists have been trying to artificially bring on mutation(yes, X-Men wasn't kidding...) and they were making progress. These scientists wanted to use something large and carnivorous but did not want to graduate to monkeys. Instead, they began testing on large lizards (like the bearded dragon) and on large snakes(the python to be exact). However it is here that the mutation experiment failed.
Oh, the pythons and dragons mutated alright, but instead of creating super reptiles, they bonded and their DNA mixed! Yeck! Now all the scientists have to show for their work is this beast which they call the Anguis Lacertae which means "Lizard Snake" in Latin.
The Anguis Lacertae(or AL) grows to be about five feet long and three feet high with its neck outstretched. It is actually a rather placid fellow except in its adolescent stage when it will lash out at anyone. It also sleeps most of the time except when it hunts. This is where the creature might startle you with its agility: it can slither on its belly by tucking its legs under it but it can also climb nimbly using its claws. When pursuing something, the AL never gives up. These creatures can be deadly, but also beautiful in their serpentine way. They really don't make bad pets, but you have to be careful to make sure it always gets its meal once a month for it does not know loyalty and you do not want to become its prey...
