How I was Raised:"You won't believe me, I know you won't. Please, just listen. maybe you'll only think it's a 'nice little story', so fine. Just listen."
Well . . . I was raised by wolves. I'm told I had a brother, but I wouldn't know him now or love him. My brother is a wolf, and I have no other siblings. That wouldn't be from the beginning, though. Let's start from there.
I was playing beside a river, I think - and I was very young. I guess I fell in, because my next memory is being licked by wolves in the early evening. They were talking, but I forget what they said - I just remember being led back their cave. Everyone was clustered in a corner, and they seemed very grave. At that point, I broke away from the group who led me, and I ran into the center of the main crowd. There was an old wolf there, and he was dying. It was like he was struggling . . . waiting for one last thing before he went. He saw me, and he grinned. He died at that point, and a she-wolf picked me up and carried me over to her nest. She was to be my mother. I learned later that her first litter had all died - right then, I was to tired and confused to care. I slept. As I drifted off, she whispered, "I will call you Pohdlohk."
I lived with the wolf for seven seasons - that's what they call a year. I was ten. I learned their ways - I hunted with them, trained with them, slept with them, battled with them. I was one of the pack. I don't know who I would have been without them - because I would be nobody. They made me who I am. I had a brother, as you know. His name was Hawk - just Hawk. We were best friends. I learned who I was, and I learned how to live with a spirit at my shoulder. I don't know why that wolf chose me, or anything about these things. But he's there. He's always there. Even though I left my pack - but I promised to return . . .
Favorite Objects:I have a few . . .
A grizzly bear claw . . .I helped to fight it off, so they agreed I could have the claw. It symbolizes fighting with packmates and courage for me.
A smooth blue crystal . . .This reminded me of a hole in the cave roof where I could always watch the moon.
And a piece of bone with a carving on it. . .It's a picture of me and Hawk . . .
