Kiamara #231 winner~

Postby wind song » Fri Apr 19, 2013 9:10 am

Oh gosh this was hard o-o
Seriously guys!

I loved many forms, and had to get some help as usual because I'm not good at making decisions x3
Aaaand, the winner is~
Solanum!
Congratulations <3 The effort and thought in your form were undeniable, the art absolutely beautiful and the symbol, though simple, really suits this guy c: Well done! Honani is also such a lovely name~

ElementStar and Dewey also blew me away, I promised myself I wouldn't do this as time is scarce, but you are both getting runner-ups! (if you wish to recieve one, if not please tell me o-o). I just loved your forms and they gave me more lovely Native American ideas that I would love to incorporate in your runner ups <3

Good job guys!
I also really loved Chasing Dream's, parlez's and SerenadedByAngel's forms ^-^

Name of Kia:
Honani [Ho-nah-nee]

Why I chose his name:

Honani is a Native American, specifically Hopi, name meaning 'Badger'. For starters, I quite liked the sound of the name when spoken, so this was why it made my short list, but the meaning also caught my eye. I've always had an interest in badgers, and actually have a family of the European species residing in my back garden. The behaviour of European badgers is similar to how I see this little guy's personality, so I believe it is quite fitting.
The badger as an animal also has a meaning to many Native Americans, and though I am certain there are slight variations in the beliefs, badgers are generally a good totem, or symbol of many admirable personality traits. The guidance in these areas offered by observing the animal also can make one feel in peace with themselves, as the small, quiet creatures offer a way of escaping the busy life and just relaxing. They are viewed as quite unique individual animals, but they obviously do not care about the opinions of others, encouraging others to choose their own path, and the pace at which they travel it.

Gender:
Male

What symbol is painted on the other side?:
Image

Honani actually has two symbols painted on his right side, though both are linked through their specific meaning, and only one is permanent like the ones on his left side. On his flank in the red paint of his other markings he has the paw print of a badger, his namesake and spirit animal. This symbol is not clear like the hand print on his left side however, and smears a little at the end as if it had been rushed.
The second is an even simpler mark, this time on his face. This symbol is not always found on him, and is therefore more as simple decoration than the others which have true meaning for him. This symbol, again in the red paint of the others, is a simple sweeping mark across the face, starting from the muzzle and ending at the top of his head like the black marking on the face of a European badger.

The meaning of these symbols:

The badger paw print symbolises his namesake and spirit animal, the badger. He connects with it on a spiritual level so it is very much a part of him on the inside, leading to him expressing it through the painted artwork on the exterior of his body to reveal this information to others who would understand. Working alongside the human hand print as an opposite, the paw print shows the balance between the two species in terms of importance in his life and his environment. However unlike the clear hand print, which could be interpreted as almost seeking perfection as it was carefully drawn with precision to create a clear print, the paw print is smudged at the bottom showing a much more carefree, simple way of life.
The second marking is also connected with the badger, as it is the face marking of the European badger. As a rather distinctive yet simple mark, it is only worn on special occasions when he feels that he needs to be brought closer to his spirit guide, or when he feels he has lost his way. Although it does also serve the purpose of making him appear more threatening if he had a need to try and ward off others. The main purpose for this mark is simply for show, as it does not have any specific meaning to him, and so could be interpreted in many different ways. The occasion to which he will wear it varies, though it is usually something that would require courage, so perhaps, deep down, it is his way of preparing himself for the future.

Bio;

Honani was not named straight after his birth as many are, instead his parents waited a few days to judge his character before truly deciding on what would identify him for the rest of his life. They did not believe in the idea that the perfect name will just come to mind at first glance, as there is no way of telling how their son would act. Looking back on their decision now, he couldn't have been happier with his parents' decision to wait. He does quite like his name. This is why he is named Honani, or 'badger', as the name actually means. His personality, even when very young, was similar to the European badger so his parents decided that this was going to be the name for him. He was very social with the other young Kia around him, often being playful and friendly where others were trying to work out their place among the other Kia cubs. Hierarchy starts young after all, but he allowed himself to be placed lower down. He took a very passive role, not wanting to fight over something so unimportant. He had never felt the need to prove himself to others, and so he didn't try to do so. Or at least not until he became a child. As he grew up, his image became more important to him, possibly due to the new feathers he had to show off. These were a gift from his father, his role model, and he very proudly wore them. His father was a very important aspect of his young life, as he would spend a lot of his time with his son, teaching him about the world, about the way they lived, and of course talking of the future, how Honani would learn about himself as he grew older. A lot of the life skills and knowledge he has had been passed down from his father, as he had wanted to give his son the best chance he could possibly have in the world. But at the same time, his father did not pressure him into doing anything he didn't want to do, especially not if it meant changing the way he was. After his second birthday, when he received his feathers, Honani became known amongst the other young Kiamara as quite the prankster, but he never meant any harm and would usually stop before he could take it too far and upset others. It's always in good humour on his end, but sometimes his judgement of how others would take it is a little off, which is when he gets into trouble. In these cases though, he does not argue with his punishment, he'll accept it, because he is well aware that it was his fault that they became upset. There is no use in denying it, or trying to pass the blame off on others. He does not wish to sink that low. With a more humorous view on life, as this joker, one would expect his focus to slip, but this is not the case. He is surprisingly focused when it comes to what he wants out of life. Sure, he may not have ambitions like other Kia children of becoming the leader of a pack, or becoming some great hero... Instead his determination stems in a completely different direction. He simply wishes to live as he chooses. This very achievable goal inspires him to keep going, and day by day he just continues as he is, openly happy with his life. May not be glamorous, but it doesn't need to be in order for him to be happy. Though he may prank others, he is quite a peaceful Kiamara. When he isn't with the other Kia children, he will be off on his own, just sitting quietly and letting the breeze blow through his fur, and the beauty of nature continue around him. This subdued young Kiamara isn't always so passive though. He can get quite vicious if the situation calls for it, as any cornered animal can be, but he is generally quite friendly, even among those he doesn't know. However just because he is friendly to strangers doesn't mean he isn't wary, as he will not trust them as he does his friends. Trust has to be earned, although unlike some, he doesn't deliberately make that hard. He has the capability of being stubborn, but sees no point in it. After all, making friends is a fun activity and having good friends can lead to so many good memories. In addition, he believes in second chances. However if you press your luck after that, you're done. He is a good, fun loving guy, but he doesn't like to be used. There is only so much that can be forgiven.
Work count; 800 words

u s e r n a m e ::

Hi, i'm O l i v er, and I am trying out
for this kiamara because I think he is
so very handsome, and I'd hate to not
try out for him. Though I am afraid
my coding skills aren't great for a
beautiful form, I assure you that if I
win him, i'd love him to bits.

n a m e ::

His name would be Ahmik. Ahmik is
a native american name meaning the
animal 'beaver'. I think this is a perfect
name for him, because his colors are
relatively close to those of a beaver's.

g e n d e r ::

Ahmik is a male, because, well, he
looks quite masculine. Can't you imagine him
as a flirt, with all the ladies? No, I am kidding,
although he may turn out to be a lady's man.

s y m b o l ::

His symbol is above, under his name
at the top. I chose this symbol because it relates,
to me, as the yin and the yang. It isn't supposed
to look like yin yang, but rather as a knot in
a tree trunk. But the meaning of the symbol is
balance between the flame and the rain. The
light and the dark.

a r t ::

WIP

p e r s o n a l i t y ::

Ahmik is very subtile and calm. He handles drama
very well, and is very careful about what he says.
Ahmik is also very wise and inspirational. He speaks
in the kindest, smartest way. Ahmik is also very
lovable and affectionate. He likes people that
will care about his feelings and hug him when he
is down. He doesn't like it when people think that
is awkward. It is who he is.

Ahmik is lazy, too. He doesn't like to move very
much but he does sometimes. Actually, Ahmik
is very fit and lean. He just likes to sleep.

Name of Kia:
Wolf
This is in dedication to my spirit animal, the wolf. I see the wolf as a symbol of wisdom, strength, leadership, and loyalty. All of which are traits found in this Kiamara, Wolf.

Gender:
Female
Even though her father often wished for her to be a male, such was not the case. One does not need to be a male to surpass your father, as Wolf has bravely shown.

What symbol is painted on the other side?
A wolf paw with marks on the toes to symbolize the wind, and a mark on the base paw pad to represent the earth.Image

Wolf's Tale
Tale Of The Brave Wolf

Now, this tale is in first person, but do not worry, if you are clever... you will find out why.

I was born on a day of a bright silver moon, my mother said that it stained my eyes and that is why they were a light color. My father was looked up to by many Kiamaras but I felt as if I was always in his shadow. I began to train, I would push myself to my limits and beyond, wanting to prove my strength and worth.
I spent many nights training under the dull grey moon. The day came where the moon was the staining silver once more, my birthday. I returned to my parents and faced my father, however, instead of a simple confrontation, he wanted a battle. My mother protested, but she had to comply. She painted red marks on my body as symbols of the wind and the earth and the hand of a human.

I watched my father circle me. I was afraid to face him, though I knew I had no choice anymore. I pleaded for peace, and he said three venomous words.

"You worthless girl."

I was enraged. I clawed at his face but he pinned be to the ground. He started to laugh at me and I clawed at his stomach. I wouldn't give up. However, I couldn't beat him. My mother rammed into my father and pushed him off of me. They began to fight and it was obvious my mother was going to lose. I could not move, fear sealed my joints. I feared for my life, my mother, and my mother's life. I took a deep breath, and though I was shaking in fear, I moved my paws ever closer towards my father, who had pinned my mother to a tree and was choking her. "Let her go, this is our battle." I said coldly. He let my mother drop to the ground and walked towards me. I noticed that there were claw marks on my mother's neck; I was too late to save her. I growled and wept at once, not of fear or sadness, but of pure, utter hatred.

How long we fought, I cannot remember. Time felt suspended as we were locked in battle. I realized something as we fought, the paint on my sides told a story. The human hand suppressing the wolf, destroying all it loved. However, with the earth in under it's feet and the wind at it's sides, the wolf prospered and won.

I realized the wolf was me. "I am the wolf with the earth at her feat and the wind at her sides." I said softly in amazement. I was a Kiamara named wolf, destined to learn who I was against the oppressor, my father in place of the human. He was confused for a moment, and I took my chance. I pinned him to the ground and clawed at his body.

He managed to escape, but was severely wounded. I returned to my mother's side as she neared her final breaths. As I cried, knowing she would soon be dead, she sang a line from an old lullaby to me in her final seconds.

"You are the little wolf, destined to lead."

Now, if this tale has begun to bore you, you no longer have to listen, but the next part is important.

The next day, I glared at the run and made a decision. I took my mother's feathers and used them as my own, then I began an ancient family tradition. When a loved one dies, the rain dance must be done.

I moved my mother into a small patch of light reaching to the forest ground past the trees. Then, I began to do the rain dance. I danced around my mother, and I felt... connected to the earth and the wind. The sky darkened and soon rain began to pour down. I continued dancing until my legs could no longer move. I stared at the dark clouds and hard rain falling down and I knew that I had to find my own path. I could no longer rely on my parents, so I set off in the pouring rain.

And so, this tale ends, though the real story has only begun. With the wind at Wolf's sides, the earth at her feet, and now the rain on her fur, she began a new tale. Oh? You wish to meet this Kiamara, why, you have already met her.
