Name: This was a really, really hard choice to make, but if I could have him, I would call him "Tungsten." I had another name in mind, but I just had to go with this one because I think it fits him better. I chose this name because it ties in with his being a metal type; I am a female welder. I have welded all sorts of metals, and used all sorts of welding methods. The one method I've done most of is called TIG; I use a rod made out of the metal tungsten. It is really hard and also has the highest melting point of any metal, with only the element carbon having a higher one. I stick the rod into my TIG torch, hit a footpedal to begin the electric current, and strike an arc on my metal plate. Then my metal starts getting really hot and that's when the molten pool begins. c: I thought it would be really, really cool to have a pet with a metal element type rather than just "earth," which I see so often, especially since I'm a welder and just love to weld. Probably more info than you really need, but I think it's neat and I wanted to provide a little background info as to why I chose this name.
Gender: Male
Element: Metal
Does this EGF conform to his/her elemental norm?: He does on the outside. He tries not to get close to anyone and pushes others away when they themselves try to establish a bond. However, it's pretty much all a front; on the inside, he freely admits (to himself) that he likes someone (if he does). He can't stand if/when he likes someone and it starts to show through in his behavior, and will angrily berate himself for seeming "soft" and withdraw back behind his metaphorical "barriers" until such a time as he slips up and starts being "nice" to people again. Oh, and that smile? It's a smirk.
Explain with a short story about him/her: For reference's sake, this is Aashita, my flaming fox.
A voice startled him just as he was slinking back into the tunnel after his lunch break. A familiar, obnoxious, annoying voice, unintelligible due to distance and the thick rock of the mine. What could she possibly want now? Tungsten muttered internally. He didn't bother waiting for the voice's owner, not wanting to encourage them, and just made his way to the end of the short mine, intent on working even if he was made to endure the presence of another being in his workspace.
"Hey! Wait!" Huffs of breath signaled the voice's closing proximity. "Wait up!" Tungsten reached the back of the tunnel, the point where he was currently pulling ore from the earth for his employers, at the same moment as a shadow fell over the mouth of the mine. A shape darted into the dim space, blocking out the light and plunging them into darkness.
"dammit, Aashita! Get out of here! You're hindering my work," the elemental fox grumbled.
Pressing into the side of the tunnel in order to lighten the space, the other fox was revealed, eagerly, if somewhat sheepishly, bouncing in excitement. "I just want to watch you, you know," she replied lowly. "I won't get in your way if you'd just let me observe. I want to learn."
Tungsten snorted at that. "You're a flaming fox, you aren't even capable of doing anything elementals can do." He turned away and resumed his work, exerting concentration and that special part of him that spoke to the metal to drag it from the earth. Bits of ore tumbled from the rock wall before him; in moments, he'd switched from bite-sized pieces to fist-sized chunks and even some as big as his skull. As they grew progressively larger, they thudded into the ground with faint "pat"s, stirring dust into the air.
Aashita fidgeted gently behind him; it didn't seem as though she would go away without a fight, though he didn't really want to have to yell at her. "That's not a reason to deny myself knowledge," she murmured, voice uncharacteristically soft.
Tungsten actually turned to look at her, at that; he eyed the flaming fox carefully for a few moments, ears twitching in mild alarm. Damn. He hated when she was right. His own voice low, he replied, "You can watch, so long as you stay away from the back wall." The elemental fox raised his voice just as Aashita gave a little jump of glee. "BUT. You have to take out the ore when it fills up, so I can keep working. Efficiency, and all that. There's a cart around the corner you can pile it in."
He expected that to be the end of it; he'd given in, so she should be satisfied with getting her way, right? Well, apparently she just couldn't refrain from getting in one more dig: "Hey." Tungsten groaned mentally; he just wanted to work in peace. He released his control on the ore and made an about-face, sarcastically dragging out the swing of his head and lifting a single fuzzy brow. "Thank you." And then Aashita was beaming, right into his face.
It was too much for him.
Tugnsten whirled around quickly, practically stuffing his face into the mine's hard wall, blood rushing furiously across his cheeks. The flaming fox just smiled and rolled bits of ore down the tunnel and out into the open air. Damn fr-... friendship.
