Name: Mýri, which is Icelandic for "swamp" or "marsh." Her coloring is very earthy, but she reminds me of wet earth more than dry, especially the bluish green and the dark brown. It is pronounced as it looks: "mee-ree." She reminds me of the mangrove trees, the old cypress trees, and the invasive yellow dodder species growing in the southern U.S, in the bayou: beautiful, but sort of mysterious. That's why I would name her "Mýri." Also, I have a huge appreciation for many different cultures and history in general; I have a soft spot for Iceland (and vikings <3).... and volcanoes. ESSSSPLODE!
Gender: Female
Age: Twelve years; yeah, she's young for her species, but still considered an adult. A young one. It seems she doesn't quite yet receive the same amount of respect as an older Lumi with more life experience. It's understandable, but I think she may yearn for the day when she has that respect.
How she defines 'Home': The place she feels most comfortable, where she is "safe" and "in her element." It's not too hard to find a place that feels like home to her, since she's an earth element and thus loves all sorts of environments and climates, but she tends to feel more at home in a place where she feels secure enough to make a nest to sleep for the night. Her friends are important, of course, so that also contributes to her perception of "home;" wherever she can be near her friends and be in the wide open vales of nature is home enough to her.
Favourite memory: "That would have to be the day I finally found my house. I'm a pretty outdoorsy kind of Lumi, so staying inside an actual house was out of the question. It took quite a while, but I finally found the perfect place for me to sleep and relax and whatnot; well, normally I'd just relax outside, but I have to stay in when the weather gets bad. So, I live in a fallen log! It's sort of rotten, but that's what I love about it; it's got some moisture, and it's very soft, and it's very warm. It keeps the air pretty humid, too, which is a definite plus. I even got help from my friends with spiffing it up! I've got a nest of blankets, and some rugs, and I hung a couple pictures over at one end. It's very nice. Just humble and cozy enough for me! I don't really need much to live on. That's what my friends are for; they can have all the materialistic personal items, since most of them live inside actual houses. I'm pretty content with just what I can find in the world around me. I do like my toys, though. When I first moved in, I really had to pile them up in a corner. A few of them have migrated to friends' houses now, but that's okay; the pile takes up a lot less space now.
What was I saying? Oh, yeah! So I found this rotten log, and it just seemed perfect for me to live in. How did I find it, exactly? Well, I was hiking with a friend and she fell flat on her face over a rotten log. She's human, so the distance between her face and the ground was rather far. Ouch. It was big for a tree, or the remains of a tree, so I walked around it, and I saw that it even had a hole in one end that opened up into the entire length of the log. Score! And that's how I found my log. We'd actually been talking about my need for a house while we were walking, so it was pretty funny that we just so happened to find my perfect new pad. And I moved in just a few days later. c:"
It was really hard writing this "memory" so that it was not a story. :c I like writing stories.
Likes:
- Soft, moist earth;
- mystery and perhaps some spookiness (ambiance);
- old forest growth (y'know, huge trees, underbrush, a general feeling of "oldness");
- humidity;
- fish;
- vines;
- butterflies, especially colorful ones;
- smashing small nuts;
- surprises and generally exciting things;
- observing small creatures (ants, lizards, mice, etc.) go about their daily lives;
- and watching life happen (just observing the world around her).
Dislikes:
- Dust (which is a sign of dry earth);
- shellfish (clams, lobster, crawdads, etc.);
- briars, burrs, nettle, and thistle;
- "dainty" colors such as pink (there's no place in the swamp for daintiness unless you're a flower, and even those are uncommon);
- hard things, such as the pit in the center of her peach, rocky ground, nut shells (when they won't break open easily), etc.;
- and earth with little or no moisture, which is more often than not either rock-hard or crumbly and useless (as a soil).
Favourites:
- Peaches;
- swamp lilies;
- moss (including the dangling Spanish kind);
- Nutella (which is surprisingly easy to come by);
- filtered sunlight (such as when seen through a canopy of trees or plants, y'know, with the pretty rays of light?);
- swimming (or wading, really);
- and natural colors such as brown, green, various reds and yellows.... anything found in nature, really (but for really "dainty" light shades, like pinks and pale yellows and purples, etc.)
