"Good mornin'!" A cheery voice called through the flimsy curtain of sleep, "Cecilia! It's Breakfast!" It called again, sounding closer than before. Cecilia lifted her head and stared at the green eyes of a male fox. "Oh, Already?" Cecilia yawned lifting to her paws. Her wings flitted then folded up as her body woke up. Her wings knocked a little dust off themselves as they rested in position. Cecilia followed her friend out to the breakfast 'table', considering how much better her bed would be than food. "Cecilia! you're going to run into everything if you keep day dreaming!" Her friend's voice tugged her back to the waking world long enough to dodge the rocks that meant to trip her. "Gee, thanks. I would've hurt my nose" She mused a smile before glancing at the breakfast. She preferred a sweeter diet than the usual meats. Her unusual butterfly appearance was what was normally blamed for this, but Cecilia believed it was just her palette.

Name: Lunara. I briefly had the really terrible idea of calling her "Lunesta" like that sleeping medicine (because it always has that really pretty, glowing butterfly in the commercials); I knew I wanted to call her something that would refer to her butterfly-ish appendages, so I just adapted it a little. And lo and behold! It's feminine and delicate and fluttery, just like I wanted.

Short story: Night had long since fallen when Lunara decided to take her routine moonlit stroll, or flight, rather. Only the smallest amount of moonlight could penetrate the thick forest undergrowth, but that was just fine with her. The canopy was thin enough to allow a view of the stars, which would only be dimmed were the glow of Earth's Companion any stronger. This was her favorite time to fly; all was quiet, but for the occasional rustling from the nocturnal creatures of the forest. Lunara could flutter freely throughout the woods, and think of little but the stars' friendly shine. They were so far away, millions and millions of miles, but she did not feel lonely for it; the radiance of their light could never be mistaken for coldness. If the fox stared long enough.... yes! She could find a smile in the dense blanket of stars. There was the corner of the mouth, and there the peaceful eyes. That small bit of happiness, not imagined but seen, lifted her own spirits when she was down. It wasn't difficult, finding something beautiful about the night, for the warmth was always there. You just had to look for it.
