Name: "The name's Kifo. Means 'death' in Swahili"
His birth name is Felix, but after chatting up a couple of Swahili gangsters...
Well, needless to say the word 'kifo' popped up, and after learning its
meaning he adopted it for himself. Call him by anything other than his
"new name," and he'll refuse to acknowledge you.→
Name Significance:I stumbled upon the word 'kifo' while I was
trying to make a wolf character for a roleplay. I loved the
way it flowed off the tongue, and vowed to use it for a
character. It just seems to suit him perfectly, so I
figured it was the best suited name to him <3→
Gender:"I'm a male you asinine moron! What kind of stupid question is this?!"→
Age:"I'm twenty-two, yep, two years older than my little bro Embargo.→
Art:Welcome to Paradise - by the wonderful ~punkstache

All my love goes to ~Drizzle~ for being amazing
and gifting me the art she ordered ;A;

SHIRE I LOVE YOU→
Why I Want Him:I've been keeping an eye on the Kiamara's for a long time now.
There were a couple where I thought I might apply, but I never did in the end,
I just didn't feel that special connection to any of them. However when I
first saw Kifo...I just kind of...knew. He called out to me somehow, and felt
really real to me. I basically knew that I had to try out for him. It's been really
hard though, since a new semester just started and I was sick and needed to
catch up. Still, I knew he was worth it so I've been working madly on my form
and praying its enough to convince you of how deeply I'm in love with this
feisty fellow <3→
What I'll Do with Him:First things first, I'll order a crapload of art since I won't be
on a deadline and will have lots of time to splurge. I think I'd order it
mostly on DA since I have a couple of great artists in mind. He'd be
prancing around in my signature for everyone to see, and once I have
some more time I'd set up a character thread for him similar to the JBD
one in my siggy. I also plan on roleplaying him extensively, since I'm quite
in love with his personality and think it would be fun to throw him into
the mix with other Kias. I secretly hope that he might get a chance to
meet his brother in one of these roleplays, because I'd love to see how
Embargo reacts to him and vice versa.
{ GET OFF OF MY BACK}
Well you think that you can take me on
You must be crazy
There ain't a single thing you've done
That's gonna phase me
Oh, but if you want to have a go
I just want to let you know
Get off my back and into my game
Get out of my way and out of my brain
Get outta my face
or give it your best shot
I think it's time
you better face the fact
Get off my back
You know it's all just a game
that I'm playing
Don't think that you
can't find a way in
That's what I'm saying
Oh if you want to have a go
I just want to let you know...
Get off my back
and into my game
Get out of my way
and out of my brain
Get outta my face
or give it your best shot
I think it's time
you better face the fact
Get off my back
Well you think that you can take me on
You must be crazy
There ain't a single thing you've done

Summing up a personality in a few brief sentences in never easy at the best of times, even with relatively boring people, but attempting to sum up and box Kifo's personality? Next to impossible. For one thing he can be pretty varied, and his emotions and actions often hinge on whatever sort of mood he's in, and THAT can be affected by any manner of things he's encountered throughout the day. Still, it's fair to say that there are a number of specific personality traits that you are guaranteed to see from him in almost any situation.
→ Rebellious
For almost as long as anyone can remember, Kifo has always had something of a rebellious "against the grain" nature. If everyone is doing something...he's probably doing whatever the opposite of that is. As he grew this manifested in minor infractions against the law, mainly in regards to graffiti and some other small brushes with authority and such.
Unsurprisingly its gotten him into plenty of trouble with his family, being swiftly labeled as the "black sheep" of the family he has firmly lived up to that, defying every wish his family ever had and turning his back almost completely on his blood relatives. His "Relationship" with his father may very well have been what led him to turn his back so fully on society and its rules.
→ Rude
He simply isn't polite. This doesn't necessarily mean he's always heartless and cruel with what he says, but he never sugarcoats anything. If you ask him whether "this collar makes my neck look ugly" and he thinks it does....he'll say so. Essentially he has no social tact, and no patience for stupid questions either. He can be extremely blunt, and if you don't impress him, he might be intentionally rude and voice exactly what it is he detests about you.
Kifo has always been this way from the very beginning, there's not a whole lot of things that he's reluctant to say, and while his manners -or lack thereof- have been known to rub others the wrong way...he doesn't give a whit about their thoughts and opinions.

→ Observant
Don't think that just because he looks like an uneducated, narrow-minded, and thoughtless individual that he is indeed all those things. Kifo is actually very intelligent, and most certainly a very observant Kiamara. He notices more about the world than anyone would ever suspect, a natural gift he has achieved after living on his own in the streets for so long.
→ Intelligent
Though Kifo isn't the sort to take up dining room conversationalists, or high and mighty intellectuals, he could certainly hold his own against them if he wished to. He's extremely well read, having read almost all of the old classics in the public libraries he stops in at now and then. He doesn't exactly flaunt his intelligence, but he's certainly not afraid to use it when it benefits him. It also allows him to make fairly wise decisions when faced with problems -like escaping from the law-
→ Charming/Smooth
This last bit pertains mainly to his attitude towards females. He can be an exceptionally smooth and almost hypnotic talker when he wishes to be, charming and alluring with that bad-boy aura surrounding him. Kifo prides himself on being able to win over most every lady he encounters, though he never has gotten serious with a female before, he finds most of them uninteresting, merely an entertaining distraction now and then. Admittedly he is quite attracted to those of the fairer gender, but he has yet to meet a female who can truly grasp and keep his interest.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Kifo's history is not the happiest of tales, honestly I find it horrifically depressing. That being said...if you truly want to understand what Kifo is about it's important that you hear his story...his full story. So...without further ado, may I present the history of Felix, the one who would one day be known as Kifo, lawbreaker, thief, and graffiti artist extraordinaire.

Felix was born on an autumn day to a very prominent Kiamara family. They had been well known for their handsome bloodline, impeccable manners, and links to prominent figures in history. There were even whispers that their family had been companions to many ancient kings and rulers. Whether that is fact or fiction remains to be seen, regardless it is well known that the family employs a strict moral and behavioural code that has been closely followed for many many years. Family tradition has always been extremely important to them, and it is considered the ultimate taboo to break these traditions. Why is this important you ask? Well, this is everything you see, for if you wish to truly understand Felix's sordid tail...you need to keep this in mind.
Anyways, the first few years of Felix's life seemed to be looking rather....typical. Both of his parents thought he would shape up to make a fine new head of the family, he was handsome and gregarious...a wonderful child in every sense of the word. Things changed rather abruptly however when his younger brother Embargo was born. For one thing the family started to dote almost exclusively on his younger brother, causing Felix to feel resentful and hurt by their sudden lack of interest in him. Naturally he tried doing little things to get their attention, reading books far beyond his literary level, attempting to delve into the world of business his parents ran, but try as he might they didn't seem to be as keen on poor little Felix anymore. As boys are apt to do he decided that if being extra good wouldn't get their attention...maybe being extra bad WOULD.
He began this stint by veering away from the traditional orderly coiffing of his mane, spiking it instead, however they barely noticed, and only took the time to tell him he was wicked for not doing things as he should. Years passed and he was just entering double digits of age when he finally had had enough. Though such a thing was unprecedented, Felix simply got up and left the den one day and didn't come back.
He wandered cold and alone for a few days, until a small gang of Kias found him and reluctantly took him in. The leader of those kias was a well known troublemaker called Viper. What his real name was no one really knows, but he took a special shine to Felix and was content to raise the little one for the time being. Felix was well taken care of, though it was expected that he carry his share of the workload, which essentially meant he was launched into the world of petty crime quite early.
He was well into his teens when his parents found him again, by this time he had acquired a nose piercing to signify the shedding of his former identity of "Felix," he had met another group of gangsters, international ones from Kenya whom spoke Swahili, they had mentioned the word 'kifo' (death) and Felix had liked the sound of it and chosen it as his new name. At any rate, when his parents found him they were shocked to say the least, torn between being distraught and being angry they ordered him to stop this madness and come home. In jest Kifo had sneeringly asked whether the "favourite child" Embargo has disappeared, and why they were lowering themselves to ask him to come back. As it turned out Embargo had disappeared not long after Kifo had ran away from home, and their parents had been searching for him ever since. Kifo was naturally disturbed by this, since his grudge had never been against his little brother but rather their parents, still, he told them flat out that he did not consider them family and never wishes to see them, so they left him reluctantly to his own devices.
Immediately after receiving this news Kifo decided to track down his little brother and make sure he was okay. Viper saw this as a sign of maturity, and since he was exceptionally fond of Kifo, he gave him the feathers that had been kept in his family for generations. It was a highly emotional moment for Kifo, since Viper had become like a father to him, and so this parting was likely the most difficult of his life. Still, he made himself leave, and spent the next few years searching madly for Embargo. As luck would have it he quite neatly stumbled upon his younger brother wandering the streets of London. For whatever reason Kifo chose not to reveal himself, curious about how his little brother had survived so long on his own. He swiftly discovered how good Embargo was at getting what he wanted from the humans. Rather proud of his brother Kifo chose not to approach him, leaving him to his own devices for the time being, and has simply hung around to make sure Embargo doesn't run into any trouble. The only way anyone would know that Kifo has been living and lingering there would be by the great works of graffiti that have become his calling card. All around London you can see the fruits of his labour, extensive works with spray paint on all manner of public buildings.

It took quite amount of time and effort to find, but I managed to dig up a collection of old interviews that were taken with Kifo by various sources. I've lumped all of them together, so if any of the questions seem a tad unrelated or out of place...I apologize. With that being said ts important to note that these are the raw words of Kifo, and are rare to find, so treasure these little tidbits dearly...they weren't easy to acquire.{CAN'T TAKE ME}
You can't take me
Yeah
Got to fight another fight
I gotta run another night
Get it out
check it out
I'm on my way and I don't feel right
I gotta get me back
I can't be beat and that's a fact
It's OK
I'll find a way
You ain't gonna take me down no way
Don't judge a thing
til you know what's inside it
Don't push me
I'll fight it
Never gonna give in
never gonna give it up, no
If you can't catch a wave
then you're never gonna ride it
You can't come uninvited
Never gonna give in
never gonna give it up, no
You can't take me
I'm free
Why did it all go wrong?
I wanna know what's going on
And what's this holding me?
I'm not where I'm supposed to be
I gotta fight another fight
I gotta fight with all my might
I'm getting out, so check it out
you're in my way
Yeah, you better watch out
Oh, come on!
Don't judge a thing
til you know what's inside it
Don't push me
I'll fight it
Never gonna give in
never gonna give it up, no
If you can't catch a wave
then you're never gonna ride it
You can't come uninvited
Never gonna give in
never gonna give it up, no
You can't take me
I'm free
{EYE OF THE TIGER}
Risin' up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance
Now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive
So many times, it happens too fast
You trade your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive
[Chorus]
It's the eye of the tiger
It's the thrill of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge
Of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all with the
Eye of the tiger
Face to face, out in the heat
Hangin' tough, stayin' hungry
They stack the odds
Still we take to the street
For the kill with the skill to survive
[Chorus]
Risin' up straight to the top
Had the guts, got the glory
Went the distance
Now I'm not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive
[Chorus]
The eye of the tiger
The eye of the tiger
The eye of the tiger
The eye of the tiger
Interview #1
→ Interviewer-shuffles papers- Hello! I believe your name is Kifo yes? We were hoping to ask you a few questio-→ KifoNo. Go away, you reporters and interviewers are all the same, nothing but a bunch of pompous overbearing fools. You'd twist my words to suit your purpose anyways, so no. Stop talking to me.→ Interviewer-hesitates- Erm but...really, we've just been hearing your name pop up in various circles and wanted to hear your take on-→ Kifo-glares angrily- I said no, now get out of here before I bite off your tail.
/end of "interview" 1/Interview #2
→ InterviewerGood day! Mister Kifo I believe? ...or...should we call you Felix.→ Kifo-pivots slowly to face reporter with anger in his eyes- I'm quite sure that I was EXPLICITLY clear with the last interviewer. You people are to LEAVE ME ALONE, I don't ask twice. Now beat it.→ InterviewerBut your real name IS Felix isn't it?→ Kifo-cracks neck and turns to walk menacingly towards the interviewer- Felix is dead, and right now it looks like you have a death wish too.→ Interviewer-continues stubbornly- Come on now, we don't mean any harm, we just want to get the facts straigh- -is pummeled by Kifo-
/end of "interview" 2/Interview #3
→ KifoReally now, this is getting ridiculous, didn't you get the message after what happened to your last interviewer?→ InterviewerWe're a rather hardy bunch, and there's really no point in resisting, we won't stop or give up until we've had a proper chat.→ Kifo-groans and shakes his head unhappily- Fine. Fine, lets just get this over with. -glowers-→ Interviewer-grins triumphantly- Alright!!! Well -ahem- our first question... Sources say that you ran away from home when you were still a very young Kiamara, and that your family is extremely prominent, why would you leave?→ KifoNone of your business, I'm not answering that. NEXT.→ Interviewer-frowns- Umm..well, okay. How about this one, what was it like growing up in a gang? Especially one led by such a notorious gangster like Viper?→ Kifo-hesitates and then sighs- I suppose I can answer this one. Growing up in a gang was hardly a terrible affair like people seem to think it would be. I had to carry my own weight and contribute sure, but Viper and my gang brothers treated me well. I likely would have died in the streets had it not been for them.→ InterviewerWow, that's pretty heavy stuff! You refer to them as your "brothers" does that mean you had a close bond to them? If that is the case then why would you leave your "family" and come to wander London?→ Kifo-growls- You're starting to get on my nerves, are all of you this tactless?→ InterviewerWell uh, we try to be fairly-→ KifoNevermind, just let me answer the damn question. Personal issues popped up for me, and I was forced to choose between two important bonds. In the end I made my decision and came to London. You need to sacrifice things sometimes for what matters to you, doesn't mean I don't still consider the Viper gang my family.→ Interviewer....I see. Well! Since coming to London have you made any new frie-...acquaintances?→ KifoObviously I've needed to be in contact with various Kiamara's throughout the city, but I try to avoid most of them as much as possible. The Viper name still holds power here, and I've a neat reputation for myself as it is, essentially what I'm saying is that I don't really need anyone else.→ InterviewerDoesn't that get lonely?→ KifoNo, not really, if I require or want company...well, suffice to say most females are rather drawn to a "bad boy" so I'm never lacking for company when I want it...if you know what I mean. -smirks-→ InterviewerWish I had the same luck with females. -chuckles- Anyways, there are many London bigwigs, mafia leaders and such, who aren't what I'd call fond of you...what exactly did you do to make such powerful enemies?→ Kifo-snorts and laughs- Compared to the crime syndicates I had to deal with, the London underground is rather pathetic, I simply disgraced them and put them in their place. It hardly would be acceptable to have them getting in my way, so I showed them what would happen if they tried. -smiles dangerously-→ Interviewer-chokes- Well ahhh...thats um, good to know? -takes a few steps back- I-I think we've gotten all we need. Thanks for your time! -squeaks and scurries off-
/end of interview 3/

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________
After meeting Kifo for the first time, I decided it would be interesting to write down some of his stories so that others might one day read them and become as intrigued as I am with him. I will admit to being extremely surprised when he agreed to this, saying something along the lines of "someone might as well know", so...I hope that you enjoy this little glance into Kifo's life, I certainly enjoyed recording them.
Life has a funny way of throwing the strangest of circumstances at you, for example, a pampered young Kiamara strolling the streets as though he was born in them. To those who were truly Kiamaras of the streets, he no doubt caused a fair amount of irritation and anger, after all, it was bad enough that they were forced to live in such appalling conditions, but for some rich, pedigreed, young sot to come swaggering about as if he owned their territory too? It was simply unthinkable and despicable. So it was that none stepped forward to see what he was doing there, choosing instead to watch him coldly from the shadows, waiting for the moment when he'd realize how very big a mistake he had made.
Naturally the first thing Felix noted was a gnawing pain in his stomach, true hunger was a foreign feeling to him, he had always been served timely and gourmet meals back home, yet here he was expected to fend for himself, and that was a daunting task indeed. Looking around hadn't yielded any options, there were no cooks or servants about to coddle him after all, and so he began to feel the beginnings of desperation and fear tug at him for the first time in his short life. Felix had inherited a stubborn pride though, and he refused to give up and crawl back home begging for forgiveness, it simply wasn't in his power, he would sooner die cold and alone on the streets than do that.... he had no inkling of how very close he would come to leaving this world for good.
~*~
Given that he was quite young it didn't take long before the cold and lack of food made him extremely weak. He eventually curled up into a miserable and shivering ball of fur, nose tucked beneath his tail as he whimpered softly and dreamed of the luxurious meals he had enjoyed at home. He was too far gone at this point to even listen to the conversation two Kiamara's were having about him mere meters away.
"Come on Viper, why we still standin' here?" A guttural voice growled, looking anxiously at the small, prone, form lying pathetically on the ground. "He should 'ave known the risks and stayed 'ome with 'is family, not come gallavantin' out here like the bloody king of England." He murmured, though a trace of sympathy could be heard in the gruff voice. The older Kia sighed, his eyes still fixed on Felix before he slowly turned to look at his companion.
"Come now Fang, are you really so heartless? Who knows why the littlun' was out here, he surely had his reasons! And he could have gone skipping home at any point, but did he? No, he chose to wander around until he collapsed. How can we, in good conscience, leave him now?" The younger Kia, Fang, shifted from paw to paw and muttered a little darkly before sighing wearily.
"Fine, fine, you win Viper. We can't leave this'un out 'ere to die I 'spose. Though lord knows what good being taken in by a gang will do." He grumbled, padding over to where Felix was lying and hoisting him up by the scruff. "Let's get out o' 'ere youngling." And with not a word more the two Kias silently melted into the shadows, carrying young Felix with them.
~*~
When he next opened his eyes, Felix found himself huddles in some cardboard boxes in an abandoned warehouse. Around him the sound of many pawfalls and gruff voices could be heard, some of them crass, others crude, and all hardened by a tough life. To say he was fearful would be an understatement. Having been surrounded by "sophisticated" adults all his life, Felix had no inkling of what the outside world was like, and when Viper -the leader of the gang- came up to him, he could barely summon the courage to look up at him.
"Well now! Looks like you managed to pull through eh? Touch and go there for a while my friend, touch and go. I think it's best you eat some food, wouldn't you agree?" The burly male turned his head to shout across the warehouse "OY, TROM, BRING SOME FOOD FOR THE LITTLE GUY WILL YA?" Felix had scrunched down close to the ground when the older Kia yelled, but at the mention of food he perked up a bit and looked hesitantly at Viper. The big male let out a rumbling laugh and ruffled Felix's head with his tail. "Like the sound of that now don'tcha? No worries little man, Viper will take care of you." And at that moment Felix felt, for the first time, as though there was someone out there in the world who might actually be worth his affection and time.
