Well, here's a random thought c:
How about they each have a distinctive scent, nit overpowering but barely there, that you can recognize them by?
I don't know, something about the floating made me think of that.
Like I said, it would be a light scent that is barely even existent, most probably created by oils that are exacerbated from glands near their helium pouches C:

Actually, that's not a bad idea. Maybe there could be two different groups of scents like flower scents for females and some other scent group for males.

Maybe, that's a good idea though. Or maybe just different kinds of water, not just rushing water.
