Name: Atsu. This means 'youngest of twins'. He dislikes this name because as the youngest, he does not get much attention. His brother's name is Azize which means powerful; beloved. Atsu only wishes he had a name like that
Which African tribe did he come from?: The Zulu are the largest group in South Africa. They're well known for their beautiful brightly colored beads and baskets, and also their beautiful small carvings. Atsu enjoys making these beads and baskets, and it's one of his major hobbies.
What African custom/tradition does he always follow?: When needed, Atsu always dances with a traditional mask. He feels that it is very important to uphold this old tradition, and he actually enjoys it as he can pour out his emotions that he hasn't told anyone about out with singing and dancing. He made his own mask, with has many traditional symbols and a few brown spots scattered across the mask. Although he normally tends to stay in the shadows of his brother, he doesn't mind dancing out in the open, for none can see his face.

This is gorgeous <33

Edit 1 was to edit my username. I accident put Angel Beats, my old username >3<

Name:
I am entering this bean with the name Dakari.
You might ask why I chose this name, well, the reason is because the name means 'Happiness' and 'Joy' in Afrikaans.

Which African tribe did he come from?:
Well, In matter of fact, Dakari actually came from Madagascar, let alone Africa. The story is quite tremendous actually...
Dakari wrote:Yes, I was born in Madagascar, I lived there for a while, until a boat came and hauled onto the sandy beach of Madagascar.
They discovered me and took me on board, Of coarse, I didn't know what to do.
They took me to Africa, and I must say, I was not used to my surroundings.

They took me to a tribe where they thought I would fit...
The Chewa Tribe.
I have lived there for a while now, and I must say, Everyone loves me,
and I love them.

The traditions and food are wonderful, and the people are loverly.
I can't imagine another place to live.

What African custom/tradition does he always follow?:

Well, this may be for girls, but Dakari will carry things on his head, whether it is a basket, or the shopping, he will carry it on his head... He doesn't mind if people laugh about it or secretly gossip about it, it is his back round that he was brought up, so it is his culture...

He started this custom thingo when he saw some people in his tribe carrying baskets and stuff on their heads and then he asked if he could have a turn, they handed him a basket and he tried to but it kept falling off,it was all funny at the time and it still is... He practised a fair bit until he got it, you see, giving up isn't really and option to him...

Name: Anokye, in dedication to Okomfo Anokye, possibly the single most important man in Ashanti history. He helped to establish the Empire of Ashanti as a "nation," as well as its laws and customs; he is known as a statesman, shaman, lawgiver, chief advisor of the nation, military strategist, and more. He is likened to Europe's Merlin (yes, the wizard), but his magic is real: in the late 17h century or early 18th century, he stuck a sword in the ground (sound familiar?) and prophesied that no one could pull it out. Several hundred years later, no one has, and it still sits by the Komfo Anokye Hospital in Kumasi ("Komfo" is a variation of his name, which is a nickname given to him in accordance with a legend about his birth). He also invented a game called "oware," which is basically a type of mancala. Another of his miracles is calling a "golden stool" from the heavens and using it to unite the Asante (a variation of "Ashanti") into one "nation." Apparently, he called incantations to the sky until a golden stool came down and landed on the lap of one of the assembled clan chiefs, who was immediately made king of the new union of the Ashanti clans. Anokye warned that the Golden Stool must never be captured, so the Asante have protected it for all this time, even going to war (with Great Britain's Queen Victoria and all her allies, no less!) to avoid losing it.

Which African tribe did he come from?: Ashanti, which is now sort of a united "nation." It can still be considered a tribe, it is just very, very large. Now, why is he from the Ashanti? Well, it's not all that often that one finds a baby bean in the wilderness, much less a rather cat-like bean; I reckon they took in the poor baby bean, abandoned and alone in the brush, because of their belief of the supernatural; finding this strange little creature must be a sign, of what sort they don't know, but they'll take him with them to find out. They raised him traditionally, if somewhat awkwardly; not quite human, but somewhere above the cats. He was obviously still treated the same as any other tribe member, though, and for that he can be thankful. Cats seem to have been rather popular with the Ashanti. There's a legend that says that, because the cat was so loyal and the dog so jealous and vindictive, the Chief decreed that cats could sleep inside the tent and eat with the tribe while the dogs slept outside in the dust and lived off scraps. I wouldn't go so far as to say they believed cats to be sacred or god-like, but they treated their cats like members of the tribe.

What African custom/tradition does he always follow?: The Ashanti way of life, of course! What other way could there be, silly! Well, modern Ashanti can be Christian, Ashanti, or even Islam, but he was brought up traditional Asante. He follows their beliefs in magic, spiritual and supernatural powers, fairies, witches, forest monsters, etc. They believe every plant (including trees) and animal has a soul. Anokye follows all their beliefs, though at this point I'd expect he's a little more modern in outlook than the King and Council chiefs. He believes in Nyame, the "Supreme Being" or god of the Ashanti, and follows all their various ceremonies for marriage, life, death, puberty, etc. and their celebrations.

But most important to him are the talking drums. Talking drums are used for learning the Ashanti language and spreading news and are also used in ceremonies. The talking drums are important to the Ashanti and there are very important rituals involved in them. He enjoys the sounds they make, but more than that he loves the idea; putting so much meaning into these drums and how they are played, it's amazing!

    Kalu (Ka-lu) {Meaning - A Young King/Leader}
Which African tribe did he come from?:
Kalu was born and raised in the Shangaan Tribe in Zimbabwe, South Africa. When he was born, his father sadly died from a unexpected attack from the Shadow Tribe, also known as the Imoo People (Imoo means 'Darkness; dusk and shadow'), which has been said that they still lurk these very grounds, watching your every step, waiting for the right moment to strike again. His father was the cheif of the clan when he was alive, which meaning that the generations of the kings pass down the honor of leadership to their sons. From that day on, Kalu was the youngest leader in all of Africa, which ended up becoming the meaning of his name. Although he was too young to rule over a tribe...his fathers second leader, was to protect and take charge of the tribe until Kalu was at a appropriate age to rule.
What African custom/tradition does he always follow?:
Following the traditions and customs of the Shangaan tribe can be a pretty responsible job. Hunting for the clan is a daily job for each older male member. Twice a day, once in the break of dawn and once in the fall of moonlight, three reliable hunters go out to hunt for wild animals for food and skin use. While some of the younger tribe members are two young for hunting, their daily basis of chores is to go out and find berries, fruits and herbs for the tribe to use for medicine and much more.

Another custom Kalu follows is making crafts to trade with other tribes for food and other important things. He loves to craft objects. He usually makes beaded jewellery, bags and baskets. It takes time, but they always end up looking perfect. He also loves to participate in the traditional dances that occur every full moon.

His last, but most important job of the tribe is to take great responisblity to look after everyone. Even though he is a young king, he is still dependable with the tribe and the members.

As king, you need to understand that balance, and respect all the creatures from the crawling ant to the leaping antelope.” - Mufasa {Lion King}

Which African tribe did he come from?: The Maasai tribe. He joined since his old tribe grew scarce of beans and he learned him new favorite tradition.
What African custom/tradition does he always follow?: Well, this may seem odd but he follows the tradition of drinking cow blood. Not to get in too much detail, but he enjoys this African culture. And then obviously he follows the heavy beading, he has many more of his decorative beads at home.

Name:

Xolani
The name Xolani is of African Zulu origin. The meaning of Xolani is "peace". I chose the name Xolani because
he gave me a peaceful vibe. His colors blend so perfectly, and his beads don't clash with his markings, they compliment them. I did not choose the name Xolani for one soul purpose, if I won him, he would be a peaceful and calm character, who loves to go on long walks or runs with his friends.

Which African tribe did he come from?:

Xolani comes from the Zulu people, from the Nguni tribe. He lived peacefully along many people within the tribe, befriending the children. He could talk two languages, English, and Zulu. One day, one of the children was leaving with her family to travel to America. Xolani couldn't bear to see her go, and he secretly went with her, traveling in a small rickety plane. He was young then, and didn't know of the consequences that may come along with this little trip. Well, Xolani got to America, and that is where he lives today, with the girl he grew up with.

What African custom/tradition does he always follow?:

Xolani follows the Zulu religion. Zulu religion includes belief in a creator god, Nkulunkulu, who is above interacting in day-to-day human affairs. Although due to preaching by the Christian missionaries , the most Zulus have embraced Christianity but still they have strong faith in ancestor spirits, Amatongo or Amadhlozi, who according to them have the full control in their lives. Xolani accepts Christianity, but does not assentialy follow it's traditions. Zulu dress in animal skins for men and skirts decorated with hardwood beads for women.

It means "Pleasant meeting" or "Brings joy".

Which African tribe did he come from?: The Fang.

The Fang are especially known for their guardian figures which they attached to wooden boxes containing bones of the ancestors. The bones, by tradition, are said to contain the power of the dead person, in fact, the same amount of power that the person had while still alive.

What African custom/tradition does he always follow?: He always follow the tradition in the Fang tribe.
He is always part of when they attach their guardian figures to the wooden boxes. He believes it gives him powers that could help him hunt with his people.
