Name:
His name would be Thabo, Thabo means "joy" in Tswana.
Which African tribe did he come from?:
Thabo comes from the Sotho tribe in South Africa.
What African custom/tradition does he always follow?:
He plays his Lesiba daily. The lesiba is made from a pole, a string, and a feather. When it is blown, the feather acts as a reed, creating a deep sound. His Lesiba is a very sentimental object, it was the only object other than his accessories that he was able to bring along with him after he moved to America from the Sotho tribe.

Abayomi, Meaning bringer of happiness, in African, Egyptian.
Which African tribe did he come from?:
Kalenjin
The name of the tribe, holds the meaning "I say(to you)". Their tribe has also been called "The running tribe", as they have many fast runners. I thought it would fit Abayomi, because he reminds people of happiness, wherever he may run to.
What African custom/tradition does he always follow?: He will maintain eye contact with anyone he is speaking with. If meeting a new bean, the first thing he will do, is look into their eyes. In South Africa, it is seen as respectful, and wise, to look into the eye's of who ever is speaking, or who you will meet. Eye's are the gateway into souls, as some say. He takes this literally, and peers into the eye's of others. Seeing the good, or bad, in their souls.

Name: Joclair
Which African tribe did he come from?: Traditionally, Joclair comes from the Duala (Douala) tribe. This tribe is in the coastal south-west of Cameron. However, Joclair was taken from his native tribe and adopted by the royal household of Fongo Tongo (this is a real part of Cameroon which has it's own king and court). And so, when asked where he comes from, Joclair simply replies "Cameroon, where the coast meets the jungle". I chose this tribe because my school's sister school, one that students from my school built by hand, is located in Fongo Tongo. Also, my favorite teacher in my highschool is on the council for Fongo Tongo, thus I naturally wanted to tie it in!
What African custom/tradition does he always follow?: Well, Joclair has been urbanized to a large degree. His ideas on the native people's customs is, at times, loose. However, Joclair continues to eat primarily fish, in honor of his tribe (mainly fisherman in rural areas of the tribe). Joclair also continues to watch and occasionally partake in Pirogue racing, which is a form of canoe racing. These are things not exactly special to his tribe, but very important to it. Joclair continues to wish to honor his tribe, even in the little things he does each day.

Ayo
His name is African, simply meaning "joy".

Tribe:
Ayo belongs to the African tribe Zulu.
In 2001, the total population was 10,659,309, the main language is Zulu, and the religions are Christian and African traditional religion.
Vocabulary
person~ umZulu
people~ amaZulu
language~ isiZulu
country~ kwaZulu
The Zulu are the largest South-African ethnic group, and first formed in 1818. AmaZulu are best known for their beadwork, and looking at all of Ayo's intricate jewelry, I felt this is exactly where he belongs. Pictured above is some actual beadwork made by amaZulu.

Traditions, Customs, and Beliefs:
AmaZulu believe in a creator god known as Nkulunkulu, but this god is not interested in them, therefore they have to connect with him on a day-to-day basis. They must use divination, the practice of seeking knowledge of the future or the unknown by supernatural means, to interact with their ancestors in order to contact him.
Ayo also believes that anything of bad fortune comes from the use of evil sorcery or the offending of spirits, daeths caused by natural causes do not exist.
The third important customary habit is the average umZulu's cleanliness. Different dishes and utensils are used for every meal, and bathes are taken up to three times a day.

His name would be Zuri, meaning handsome in African. He is a very handsome bean.
Which African tribe did he come from?:
He came from the tribe of Maasai. Maasai inhabit around the African Great Lakes area. They are the best known of the African ethnic groups.
What African custom/tradition does he always follow?:
Zuri follows the custom of having a wedding when the moon is full. Well, becoming mates when the moon is full. It's consider bad luck if you do it when the moon isn't bright. Zuri is very superticious, and he doesn't want any bad luck. Bad luck would be horrible to him. He thinks he has enough on his own. He also thinks that asking another bean to be his mate during a full moon would be romantic.

Beep beep meow, formerly kat754.
Name:
Abiodun, meaning 'Born on a festival'. This name seems to fit him because when I see him, I imagine him beading at a festival, charitably giving out his beautiful works to whoever is interested. I also imagine people and dragons dancing in harmony to the traditional music, and everyone having fun. <33
Which African tribe did he come from?:
Abi is from the Krobo tribe, one of the largest tribes and very widely known for their beading techniques.
What African custom/tradition does he always follow?:
Although he loves to bead, Abi is less known for this as much as his beautiful painted masks and dances. He is an amazing artist; but as any mask artist should, he always makes sure to offer his prayers to his ancestors for guidance before beginning the actual carving. The African mask represents a spirit and it is believed that the spirit possesses the dancer as they wear the mask. The chosen dancer goes into a trance-like state in order to receive guidance and wisdom from the ancestors. The dancer will utter and moan the messages received and a wise man, who accompanies the dancer will translate the message.
