Name: Mechanism or Mechy
Story: Mechy is a a very curious WtD. He likes to take apart things and find out how they work. One day, Mechanism saw a large, silver sphere and had to know what it was and how it worked. So, he climbed on top of it, looking for any screws or bolts. He poked it a few times with his trusty screwdriver until he heard a hollow "clunk" and he flicked his tail excitedly. He found a loose piece of sheet metal on it and, using his chisel, he popped it off. Careful not to fly off the mysterious object with it, he wrapped his tail around the opening and pulled himself in. Inside was; a screen, scrolling ball, keypad with unrecognizable letters, and soft lights. He had to contain his excitement in order to explore. After poking, popping, and unscrewing everything he could find; Mechy realized it was some sort of transportation. He reassembled every piece just as quick as he had undone it and decided to take it for a spin.

Mello-chan
Yongnian
"A Chinese name meaning 'eternal age/lifespan,' translated by some as 'immortal.' I did not choose it; rather it was bestowed upon me."
Liūngcūn, China
Green eyes shone in the darkness as he slowly inched forward, out of the shadows. This village worshipped his kind, that he knew, but it was always best to be cautious around the humans. They acted strangely on impulse.
He was a whiptail dragon. No name, just a dragon. Across his travels he had been called many things: ryū, dragon, drákōn and wyrm to name but a few of them. The latest, local, name was Liūng. He didn't mind this, and had therefore had made his way to Liūngcūn, the Dragon Village, where he heard dragons were revered. A festival was taking place, with dancers dressed in elaborate costumes twirling through the streets, a long, painted metal structure held on their shoulders. 'Liūng' blinked in surprise. Was that supposed to be a dragon? He admired the craftwork of the beaten metal and floating ribboned mane but it looked nothing like him!
"Liūng! Liūng!" A little girl shouted happily, pointing at his hiding place on a shadowed roof as she tugged at her mother's sleeve. He'd scaled the building to get to it, and was not happy at the thought of moving. He watched the child warily, his green eyes narrowed to slits.
"Yes, dear." An older female said absentmindedly, watching the progress of the dragon dancers with the eyes of a person entranced. Annoyed by her mother's disinterest, the girl let go of her mother's sleeve and ran towards his building. It took the distracted woman a minute or two to realise of her daughter's disappearance, and when she did she set off through the crowds like a woman possessed.
"Lan Fèng!" The human female called loudly, pushing others aside, ducking underneath the twisting bronze dragon and disappearing into another crowd.
She certainly looked frantic. The dragon on top of the nearby building mused, his tail lashing lazily. Shame she missed her daughter's ascent of my perch.
Standing across from him, the little girl, Lan Fèng, stared in wonder. She put out a hand, slowly, cautiously, and ran it down his smooth neck, looking almost as if she would faint.
"The Liūng real..." She breathed, then hugged him.
The 'Liūng' made a low, confused humming noise, unsure how to act. The desperate shouting caused by Lan Fèng's mother was getting closer, accompanied by others now.
"I must go, little one. Return to your mother."
He touched the little girl's forehead with his muzzle, nudging her away, then, carefully disentangling himself from the child's embrace, clambered back down the side of the house and vanished into the shadows once more.Liūngcūn, China - 20 years later
Observing the village, slightly larger than he remembered it, the dragon stood at the foot of the hill Liūngcūn was built upon, hidden by the trees. Curiousity had led him back here; he had never visited a place twice before. He remembered the route he had used last time, when the festival had been blocking the streets. A narrow, shadowed alleyway containing only an empty forge. Now, however, as he tried to creep past, a firey glow and the sound of a furnace roaring bade him stop. The forge was in use? Once again curious, the dragon approached, and was caught completely unaware when a blur of black hair and red clothing tackled him round the neck in an hug.
"It's you! You're back, and you're real! I knew it!" The young woman shouted in excitement, her dark brown eyes gleaming. Her smile threatened to overwhelm her face.
"You are... Lan Fèng child." The dragon commented, in shock.
The woman grinned wryly. "I am no longer a child. It has been many years since you last blessed this village with your presence, yet you have not changed, Yongnian."
"My kind do not change so fast, human child. The passage of time is nothing to us." The dragon replied in rumbling tones, unsure of the meaning behind her last word. It sounded like a name.
"That is why you are Yongnian, for you are eternal in the minds of my people." Lan Fèng said softly, before a thought seemed to strike her. "Ah! Wait here!"
Rushing up a nearby ladder, the girl threw herself to her knees in front of him, thrusting an ornate box in his face. "Please accept these! I made them in case you returned!"
The dragon gently nosed open the box, revealing a a pair of goggles and a wristcuff, as well as a strap for his tail. They were all made of beautiful worked dark leather, the cuff featuring an iridescent red timepiece. A set of immaculate tools were strapped to the tail strap. The newly-dubbed Yongnian looked at Lan Fèng quizzically, then back to the gifts. Her face turned red. "They were the first thing I made. I always hoped you'd return, so you could help me. It has always been my family's duty to make the dragon costume, but I don't know how to do it. I thought a dragon would know how to make a dragon." She studied him with bright eyes. "Though you don't look much like one."
He snorted in amusement, staring down at the leather objects.
"I look as much like a dragon as the rest of my kind, little one. I imagine that will change, once I have these on."
Lan Fèng beamed at the subtle hint of approval, getting to her feet. She fastened the wristcuff watch to his right foreleg, then buckled on the tail strap. Finally, she pulled the goggles over his horns and set them on his forehead, dusting off her hands as she stood back to admire her work; she had long believed it would remain unfinished. Yongnian padded over to a sheet of metal lying at the foot of Lan Féng's workbench and stared at his reflection for a moment. She held her breath in nervous anticipation.
Satisfied, he looked up from the makeshift mirror to meet her smile with a nod of approval.
"Now then, Lan Fèng-child. We have a job to do."
1000 words exactly, not including headings.

Just thought I'd say, the setting mentioned in the story; Liūngcūn, or Dragon Village, is, to the extent of my knowledge, entirely fictional and made up for the sake of the piece of writing.EDIT- Isn't this supposed to have ended a couple of months ago?
