WTE:11 Chestnut "Mule Deer" Christmas Special

Postby Penultima » Sat Dec 15, 2012 1:00 pm

This here is a very unique WTE. Somehow, someone put a golden harness on him for Christmas. To win, entrants had to explain how he came to have a harness and why.

WTE Age: 20

Height: 12.2hh
Personality: Dundor isn't the quietest Equine. His name rhymes with thunder for a reason. Aside from that fact, Dundor is caring and highly intelligent.
Story:

One day Dundor was taking a leisurely walk through the jungle trees, when a sudden loud noise roared all around. Being kind of timid, Dundor took off in the direction he thought was farthest from the noise. He jumped through the underbrush and stopped with fright. There in front of him laid the strangest red thing he had ever laid eyes on. Out from under it crawled a large man with white hair hanging off of what Dundor presumed to be his face. As he crawled out Dundor could see the man was wearing a red coat. Dundor froze, awe-struck.

All around creatures he had never before witnessed in his life, stood. They had horns like he, himself, but the creatures were smaller. Their noses down to there hooves were different. In fact all but their color and horns, were different then Dundor. One of these creatures sprang away into the forest. Dundor in his awe, did not see the big red man stand up.

Santa, as the big red man is usually called, looked around. Everything was blurry and cracked. He reached up and found his glasses were shattered. Poor Santa could not see very well without his glasses, and he forgot to bring his spare. "Well Christmas must go on, I'll have to make due without them." He squinted as he tried to look around. One of the reindeer on his sleigh has become side tracked during flight, causing the whole sleigh to crash. Santa pushed the sleigh upright again and made sure, nothing had fallen out of his bag.

By now all the reindeer started to gather around Dundor. Dundor turned to run, but they had surrounded him. The big man in red, started walking toward them while mumbling. He came toward Dundor and grabbed him by the antler. "Come on Donner," the big man in red commanded. Before Dundor could react a strange harness was around him and he was hooked onto the fourth row of the sleigh. One by one the reindeer around him were hooked to the sleigh. Santa climbed into the sleigh and with these words, "On Dasher, on Dancer, on Prancer, on Vixen, on Comet, on Cupid, on Donner, on Blitzen," The sleigh took flight. Poor Dundor though, could not fly. He tried his best, but no. He was lucky that the other reindeer were strong enough to carry his extra weight. They flew for not too far, until the ended up at an orphanage. There they landed on the roof, not too silently thanks to Dundor. The reindeer and Dundor, stayed while Santa gave away the toys. This was Santa's last trip before heading home. He climbed into the sleigh and they began to fly again. The reindeer were getting very tired of carrying Dundor's weight. After a while, they started to fall. With a roar like thunder, they crashed right into the jungle were Dundor lived. The hook that connected the sleigh with the harness on Dundor, snapped. Dundor was free! He thundered off into the woods. On his way he passed a reindeer headed in the opposite direction.

Later Dundor saw a flash of red shoot across the sky and he knew the reindeer and the big man in red, had left. He wished they had taken the harness with them though, but in a way, he always prized the harness. It was a reminder of his adventure.

WTE Name: Klarion
WTE Age: 5
Gender: Stallion
Height: 12.2hh
Personality: Rather mysterious and wild, but you never know.... ;)
Story: When Santa was out giving presents, some of his presents fell out into the WTEs habitat, and Klarion went with lighting speed and retrieved them fast, because he knew the jungle well and he could sense the urgency of the situation. Santa wanted to hire him as his tenth reindeer, but Klarion didn't want to leave and go the north pole, so Santa put a golden harness on him to honor him, and there it is.

    WTE Name:
        Vlair
    WTE Age:
        Seven years
    Gender:
        Stallion
    Height:
        12.2hh
    Personality:
Vlair is a strong-willed stallion. He is stubborn, but also outgoing and
fights for what he believes in. He strives for perfection, and hates it
when people tell him he can't do something. He does what he wants
when he wants to. This can make him kind of strange at times, but he
could care less what other WTE's think about him.
    Story:
Vlair galloped through the forest, his tail flying behing him. His mane whipped against the air as he wove through the thick vegetation. He tossed his head, pretending he was flying through the air, like one of Santa's reindeer. Unfortuneately, this dream was too good to be true. He knew very well he would never be a reindeer, despite his hopes. He kew he would never even meet Santa. Even though he knew this, he could pretend. And so he did. Vlair let himself pretend to fly through the air, though in reality he did no such thing.

It was finally Christmas eve. Although he knew it couldn't happen, of course he hoped. He hoped that he would meet Santa, that Santa would invite him to become a reindeer. It was his secret wish. No other WTE knew about these dreams of his. To his dismay, Christmas Eve passed without even a sight of Santa. Vlair went to sleep, having lost all his hope and his belief in Santa. When he woke up, nothing was different, except for the fact a silver present rested beside him.

        Image

It read. There was also a little note attatched to the gold ribbon wrapped around it.

        I am sorry that I couldn't see
you. We have too many reindeer as it is though.
I do have this gift for you, and I hope it is enough.
With this, maybe one day you will become one of
        my reindeer

        -Santa

Vlair stood there confused. He told no one about his secret hope. No one else knew. Santa was real. He tore open his present, curious about what the jolly man had left him. A beautiful, shiny gold harness sat in the remains of the wrapping paper. Vlair grinned, quickly putting the harness on. Now, he was just like a reindeer. He puffed out his chest proudly. Santa had came through for him. Even though he couldn't become a reindeer, Santa had given him the next best thing

WTE Name:
Tarandos
His name means "reindeer" in Greek. Goes by "Rand" for short.

WTE Age:
7 years

Gender:
Stallion

Height:
12.2hh

Personality:
Strong and responsible, Rand is loyal, loving, and dutiful. He is pretty calm and very obedient, but is physically strong and mentally resilient. On his downside, Rand can be overly protective and a little too determined. He's never been known to give up on anything.

Story:
"Pull! Pull Rand! Don't stop!"

With the sound of straining leather and cracking trees, Rand could feel the snow beneath his hooves slipping as the canyon walls lost their banks, bit by bit. He snorted as he pushed into the harness farther. His master's girl gave a squeak of fear, and Rand took another step up the slippery bank. He had to save them. They'd die within minutes, the river rushing dangerously beneath the cracked ice. Another bit of ground gained, and he felt the chest strap of his harness break.

"Daddy, the storm is too bad, I don't wanna go out," a little girl whimpered, huddling into her coat.

"Come on baby," he said. "We need to get these delivered. Besides, it will blow over," the man smiled, laugh lines adorning the corner of his eyes. Rand gave an excited whinny from the sleigh outside, and the father picked up the last of the presents. "Now come on, we'll get some hot chocolate when we come home."

The young girl, named Alana, ran towards the Whip Tail, Rand lowering his head to nuzzle his little rider. He watched as she climbed in first, then her father, and straightened up when he felt the pressure on his reins. With a soft click Rand moved forward into a walk, then into a gentle floating trot. His long legs carried him easily over the snow as his passengers sang; the sunlight was broken by the bare branches of the deciduous forest around him, and the ground was covered in fresh fallen snow. It was beautiful today, despite the wind that stung his nose and every now and again his eyes. As they approached the canyon though, Rand felt that something wasn't right. He faltered in warning, but the father wasn't paying attention. "Go on Rand, it's alright," he said, initiating yet another carol.

Giving a distraught huff, Rand did as he was told and slowed down. he walked carefully onto the old wooden bridge. As the wood creaked he threw his head back, the whites of his eyes showing in fear. This thing was unstable. Not being the path he and the humans normally took, he briefly pondered why they had taken this route today, but his thought process was quickly broken by the cracking of old wood. As the boards beneath the sleigh began to crack and splinter, breaking away from the main beams, the WTE bolted forward, pulling the sleigh forward across the bridge as the bridge broke more and more. It seemed like forever before his hooves hit the other side of the canyon, but the snow made it only harder to pull, and he was the only thing keeping the sleigh from plummeting into the frozen river below.

Rand snapped back to reality as the harness snapped and he whipped around, grabbing the intact area with his teeth. He began backing up slowly, the exertion from pulling making his shoulders and neck hurt. From behind him he could hear talking, but he couldn't call out or he'd drop the sleigh. The sound faded for a brief moment before it came closer, and he realized the horse and rider were coming towards them now. Out of the corner of his eye there was a flash of silver bay, and he felt some of the pressure release and pulling became easier. Finally the sleigh found stable ground, and Rand could take a moment to breathe.

"Very fine Whip Tail you have there," the girl on the back of the bay said, her horse Requiem tossing his head. "The name's Amethyst. I have an extra harness at home you can have, I live nearby." The father nodded and Ami grabbed part of the sleigh, attaching it to her saddle as Requiem took over. For the rest of the afternoon both Rand and his masters rested at Amethyst's cabin, and at the very last moment, Amethyst surprised the family with the gold harness. "A special harness for a special Whip Tail," she smiled.

WTE Name: Triumph's Toll
WTE Age: 12 years
Gender: Stallion
Height: 12.2hh
Personality: Triumph is a quiet, solemn, thoughtful creature. He spends most of his time wandering around in the snow and enjoying the scenery. He thinks quite a bit, and can answer almost any question, as he ponders each one very carefully and logically. However, despite his being very logical and solemn, every year during Christmas-tide, he will play and romp around like a colt. He will tell all sorts of legends of Christmas to young WTEs, who listen in awe and excitement, their wide eyes fixed on him with wonder. In the month of December, the only time he ever lets loose his playfulness, he is the merriest, happiest, friendliest, most joyful equine creature you could ever hope to meet.
