Story:
[center]In the early spring when Marina was just young, light filtered through the trees and danced off the ground around her. The world was such a happy place in Marina's eyes for everything glistened in the daily light, her mother was happy and everything around her seemed to be bursting with life.
When Marina joined her mother's herd and met other foals her age, she noticed something different about their families. There were two kelpies tending to each of the foals and the second ones had strange looking horns.
"Momma, what's with the Kelpies that don't look like us?"
"Those are boy Kelpies, they're the other foals' fathers,"
her mother answered placidly as if her mind was elsewhere.
"Where's my father?"
Little Marina asked now feeling different from the other foals.
"He left a long time ago and I never saw him again,"
her mother answered quietly then bent down to graze,
"But let's not talk of such sad things."
This thought of a father kelpie always nagged at the back of Marina's mind as she grew up in the herd and watched all her friends play with their fathers. One day when she was a weanling, she grew tired of this mystery and ventured off to look for her father on her own deep in the dark sectors of the bayou. She wandered for days calling for anyone who might assist her in finding her father or her father himself but was felt unanswered until she whinnied herself hoarse. She stopped by a large pool of water and began to weep for this father she wanted but never met, wishing somehow he could find her and just say hello so she would know who he was.
As she wept, an alligator slunk through the water, seeing the young kelpie as an easy meal and tried to snatch her from the water's shores. Marina screamed a raspy yell and saw a large male thunder out of the woods and charge toward the alligatorwith muderous intent in his eyes.
"Stay away from my daughter!"
The kelpie screamed and slammed his hooves inches from the alligator's face, enough to scare the creature before turning to address the daughter he'd longed to meet for so long.
