She/He's inspired from old Chinese/Asian folklore. Roughly speaking her/his design is surrounded in reds and dark hues in general. It hints at living a harsh life and perhaps has encountered a few fires. She/He is inspired from the ashes and the smoke arise something new; something that can't be killed so easily and the will. Though sometimes the ash doesn't always rub away. This reflects negativity but show how they can combat this own to win this lovely Whelkon.

PS. Originally I saw this as a male Whelkon but feel free to pick the gender. ;3

▪ Name Meaning: literally translates from my imagination XD To Burned Love

▪ Gender: Female

▪ History: She barely showed against the dark of the night as she prowled through through the skeletal forest. The fire had destroyed everything she had loved about the forest. From the tiny saplings to the mighty and ancient oaks now they were gone reduced to mere ashes laying upon the scorched earth. Her heart had broken when the embers had long faded and she gazed upon the destruction of her beloved home, this forest had been her home since she was just a little whelk trotting along by her fathers side.

A heavy sigh sigh escaped her and she trudged onward her heart heavy, even knowing that the forest would grow back would not lighten the load she carried on her shoulders. The poor thing was weary as she made her way back toward the cave she called home, if a sentient being were to look into her red eyes they would have seen a great deal of pain. Ash had streaked her coat and somehow had somehow stained her fur to become something of a reminder, much like a scar only without the pain of injury. A mournful whimper escaped her throat as something cracked beneath her hooves. Though she didn't dare look down Kalatria somehow knew it was a bone of something that hadn't escaped the fire and choking smoke.

The beautiful Whelkan didn't know how long she had walked for nor did she care as she sank to her knees and then down onto her side from sheer exhaustion. The soulful red eyes slid shut and she knew no more...

She awoke to the soft burble of water and the gentle tweets of birds as they went about their daily lives. There was a snuffling sound and hot breath ruffled the fur on one of her ears. Gentle teeth nipped her ear and she flicked it back in annoyance, a soft sigh reached her ears and her beautiful eyes opened. They took in the sigh of long brown legs that ended in hooves much like her own, red eyes followed the long legs and came face to face with a Whelkan with bark brown fur and creamy markings resting atop of tawny ones.

((Just have to say I am completely in love with this whelkon I'll try my best to get him))

▪ Whelkon Name:
Mochū Kasai
▪ Name Meaning:
The first part of his name, Mochū, is Japanese for grief/mourning while the second half, Kasai, translates to Fire. He had previous been called kyo but his herd has a custom in which names can be changed as different events occur during a lifetime to reflect their story. After the tragedy he went through Mochū Kasai fit him perfectly.
▪ Gender:
Male
▪ History:
He rose his head from a deep sleep as crows whipped over his head cawing louder then normal that's when he saw the sparks out of the corner of his eye as they glowed a bright red. He raised his head toward the sky and took a deep whiff of the air and his eyes widened in panic. "fire!" He quickly glanced around and saw the passionate heated glow coming in from the north. Before he could think his long legs stretched out quickly carrying him toward the south. His heart raced like a hummingbirds wings as he felt warm ash landing on his back. He broke into a sprint faster then he ever had before as he whipped through the trees. Thorns and branches caught him as he flew but he didn't even notice. Suddenly massive flames rose before him striping the woods like a tiger and he stopped dead in his tracks. He quickly whipped around in circles hoping to find an exit but none could be found. With tears rolling down his cheeks he dashed toward the flames and right before he reached them he pushed of the ground with all of his strength, as he soared over he could feel the flames lick at his underside yet as soon as his hooves touched solid ground they were flying again. He sighted the stream he frequently visited and dashed toward it carefully avoiding roots of trees that jutted out from the darkening ground. Upon reaching it's rocky shore he splashed over the stream getting stones caught in his hooves as he went. That's when he finally came to a stop, his sides heaving and his heart racing he rose his head and stared back at the glowing ember of what was once his home. Then he regained his consciousnesses and froze, teardrops welled in his eyes as he called toward the woods hoping for answer. He paced along the southern side of the river for hours watching the flames lap at the trees calling until he lost his voice. He managed to let out a quiet mournful cry before heading off and leaving the scene.

He was limping as he walked away from the place he had called home but he didn't even seem to notice the pain in his hooves or the sharp rocks that had gotten caught in them all he knew was that he had to find someone, he just couldn't be alone. After walking for a good half an hour he heard then sound of many hooves stepping down into soft mud, squelching every time they rose. His heart picked up as he raced toward the sound. When he saw his herd he was over come with happiness but only for a mere moment. Only half of his herd was here. Not many of them had managed to escape the fire, his heart sank with guilt, the whelk that had been sleeping a mere 10 feet away from him hadn't made it and neither had his father. And his beautiful mate Jezzabelle...She was gone.

His eyes stung with tears and his heart shattered into a million pieces. She was the only one he had ever loved, the one he wanted to have whelk with. She would wake him up in the morning by grooming his forehead in a loving way . Then they would race each other to the stream to get a drink of the fresh water, before trotting around in the early morning dew while they listened the gentle sounds of the forest. Her coat was a cheery shade of gray streaked with black and white, which is hard to imagine but whenever you looked at her you could see the sunshine in her eyes and the spirit of the forest in her hooves. Her scent was recognizable from a football field away it smelled like, angels them selves had come down to shower her with cheer. She was never without a smile, in fact she was the only reason he ever could smile, before she came around he only felt bitter hatred toward the earth they had both always had a very hard life but she always had a smile on her face no matter how much pain she was in and she was the world to him. He always wondered what made her want to be with him. No matter how many times he bottled up his emotions until they exploded with a rage. She stuck round anyway and he hated himself for doing that to her.

He shook his head from his memories and his head sank and he slowly walked toward a puddle he looked down and he hated what he saw in the reflection. His once snowy white coat had been darkened with the ash of of his memories and his eyes showed nothing but bitter sorrow. He slammed his hoof down on the puddle and silently moved on with the rest of his herd.

They eventually came upon a new forest it was gorgeous, a forest that any of his kind would call paradise, but he would never be able to call this place home. As time passed his herd grew in numbers but his coat remained dark almost as if to remind others of what tragedy he had been through on that night two years ago.

▪ Theme song(click the lyrics to go to it)

It's not quite a mystery.
I'm the one who's insecure,
you're the one that makes believe,
that we're all okay, we're doing fine,
when we're both fighting just to stay,
to stay alive,
a fragile state of mind,
that I can't quite survive.

Without a doubt, I need your help.
I know you've heard me ask before,
but come on girl, I need to tell you now,
I know what I've done wrong.

The only way out of here is the way I've avoided for all my life.
There's so many things I wanna say,
but there's too many things still in the way.
I'm lost, please help me find my place.
You're the only one, please lead me out of the dark.
Please lead me out of the dark.
Please lead me out of the dark.

I'm moving on, I'll promise change,
if you will let me in again, I swear today,
I'll be a better man.
I'll be who I was then.

It's been a long two years,
I can't change the past,
I've shed so many tears,
Can't believe I've lasted this long.
I see now that I'm wrong.

The only way out of here is the way I've avoided for all my life.
There's so many things I wanna say,
but there's too many things still in the way.
I'm lost, please help me find my place.
You're the only one, please lead me out of the dark.
Please lead me out of the dark.

▪ Whelkon Name: He is called many names because his parents never got a chance to name him. Sometimes he is called Tuska, which means pain in Finnish, because of the look of pain he always carries in his eyes. Another name he is sometimes called is Vaitiolo, which means silence in finnish, because of how shy and reserved he is. Also, he is called Loimu, Flame in finnish, because of how his fur looks like it has been scorched and burned by flames. He calls himself Bakarrik, which means alone, because he feels completely alone in the world and because the only family he ever had was killed right before his eyes.
▪ Name Meaning: Tuska - pain, Vaitiolo - silence, Loimu - flame, Bakarrik - alone.
▪ Gender: Male
▪ History:The first thing he ever saw was a flame, the second, his mother burning to death. Of course, he had no idea what was happening to him, he was only just born a moment ago. An older, red and grey welkon was ushering him away from the welkan on lying on the ashen grey earth, who was screaming and howling on the ashen grey earth. The newborn welk couldn’t stop stumbling and tripping over rocks and burning logs, and every time he fell he was nudged back to his feet in a very hurried way. Everywhere he looked he saw a splotchy, dark grey color dancing and twirling with streaks of crimson, burgundy, scarlet, and chestnut reds along with some oranges and a couple streaks of blazing whites. The flames lapped at his legs as if inviting them into their dance while the sounds of crackling, snapping and sizzling filled forest. Soon he realized a strange taste and smell flooding into his mouth and nose and spilling into his lungs, filling them with their toxic stench. He coughed. If it were any other morning, the sky would be a vibrant mix of pinks, purples, oranges, or any other color the sky likes to wake the world up with, but this morning, this morning the sky was angry. This morning the sky was burning with an intense rage, and in the center of this burning rage was a mother, a father, and a brand new baby welk. Heat began to cover him like leaves and twigs cover the forest floor and he could feel all of his energy being sucked out of him, but the more they ran, the more comfortable he became with his strong legs and sturdy hooves. He began to maneuver with more ease; he could jump over large logs, turn faster, and even take longer strides without having to look at the ground directly in front of him. This gave him a chance to look up, he saw his father. His father looked down at him and gave him a worried smile and a warm, loving look that only a father could give that said everything and more. He smiled back up at him. There was a very load crack, then a slow, horrible groan, and then, a crash that boomed as loud as thunder. The biggest oak the forest had ever had and the best father a welk could ever have, both gone. He stopped dead in his tracks, but being only a few moments old, he fell face first into hot ash and ember covered, and slid a few feet before he came to a stop. His face burned and his face burned and his eyes began to water. Sorely, he made his way back onto his sore, bruised legs. All that he could see of his father was the end of his tail and one of his back hooves. He stumbled over to his father as fast as he could, but stopped a foot away. He waited. For what seemed like days, he waited. Waited for his father to lift himself from under the tree, to stand up and smile at him again. He didn’t get up. Maybe he just needed a nudge. He limped over to his father and nudged his leg. It fell limp to the broken, burning earth. He nudged him again and received the same results. Confused, scared, and unwilling to leave the only family he had, he laid down with his father, curled up in the C shape that the tip of his leg and the end of his leg created. He laid and waited until he fell asleep. Until he fell into a dreamless, dark, and lonely sleep.
. . .

When he awoke, he found himself coughing and gagging and struggling to get a breath. He must have slept for a long time because all that was left of the fire were a few embers burning dimly against the grey world he lived in. His face stung, his legs were scorched and burnt and could barely support his weight, and his tail was bald, striped of its long, soft fur. Struggling to his legs, he felt a piercing pain in his stomach and his throat and mouth were so dry he was unable to swallow. He realized he had to find food and water or he would die. He rested his nose on his father’s hooves, silently saying goodbye. Three tears crawled out of his eyes. They tumbled town the gentle curve of his cheek until they found their final resting place on his father’s night black hoof. Painfully, he lifted his head, turned around, and limped away. He didn’t look back, he couldn’t.
. . .

He lived alone for the first nine years of his life. Late into his ninth year, a herd found him and took him in. He was very thin and the fur on his tail had grown back but I grew back darker than his other fur. Although he was a full-grown whelkon, he still felt like a young, scared and lonely welk. He was very shy and reserved and found it hard to trust others. Young welk tended to avoid him, but young male welk would sometimes compete to see who could get the closest to him when he wasn’t looking. All he wants is for the herd to except him. He always carries a look of pain and loneliness in his eyes. He dreams of having a family and finding someone who can teach him how to trust again, someone who will never abandon him.
