You know, like the cactus? I just though his back stripes looked like thorns, and his colors remind me of desert canyons, for some reason.

Also, if you look at them upside down, they looks like silhouettes of the Saguaro Cacti.

It likes to sit on his head, curled up between his horns. Or gently around the neck. Another favorite spot is Saguaro's tail, which to the snake is a branch. Even Saguaro's pouch! Thought it would fit, because their colors are reddish-brown, like him. :3
