Number: 5
Picture:
Name: Voided Abyss
Species: Astral Fox
Personality: He likes to act like a loner, but there's no denying his love of company. Even if the company consists of watching over another, it's welcome company. He's relatively quiet and thoughtful, however that certainly won't stop him from speaking his mind if the moment calls for his opinion.
Likes: Bio-luminescent animals, star-gazing, protecting those who are near and dear to him, making others smile, and the flavor watermelon.
Dislikes: The flavor grape, watching his friends and family suffer, and not being able to see the stars at night.
Background: (2500)
Perhaps given the circumstances, he was immensely lucky, though it didn't feel it. Time and time again, destruction was narrowly avoided. But everything came to an end. Nothing could last forever. The stars were created and in a beautiful and dazzling array of lights, they exploded in an incinerating death, and more stars were born. Energy and matter was only borrowed.
Life gave new meaning to the galaxy. Everything had order, everything had it's place, and just as everything fell into place, it all had to end. Just as one comes to the realization that life cannot last forever and that true meaning is found right before death can one embrace the beauty of life. This galaxy, a glorious midnight rose, was wilting. As the stars and the central sun died, so did the life around it. The star gave out one last burst of light, like ecstasy; and caved in on its self.
From the din came another bloom, as a flower blooms, dies, and releases seeds, so did this galaxy. This black abyss gave birth as everything condensed. The light that shone so brilliantly had faded into a little ember in the sky.
-------------
Some time, several centuries, or some amount of time, that seed began to germinate. The dust of star remnants fed the new life, and sparked growth. But by now, the little splotch in the sky had grown so much closer and by now encircled the planet of a neighboring galaxy. This planet was new, far to young to have any true life, but there was always hope. After all, a forest could re-grow from the ashes of its kin.
The lost soul of the collapsed abyss collapsed into the ground in a great ball of fire, something that sparked terror and wonder among the creatures inhabiting the barren planet. This new planet had some... substance, nothing like what had been seen before. It was easily moved and seemed to cling to surfaces, then drop off in little clumps. It wasn't hard, but it wasn't soft. It was as though there was nothing there to support your weight, but it was there. It left stains on your body, but they went away when out in the heat. And it was... wet.
The seed uncurled, something like a fiddle-head. First the blackened grey fur sprouted and stuck out, then a tail that moved delicately as though one false move might break the tail in two. Next there bloomed a face. A long snout, resembling something like a canine creature. The being was coated in something like fur and the deep cuts in his side oozed a grand light that filled the air with the presence of tranquility. The fox stood, touring over the ground with eyes like voids.
The glassy water reflected back to the fox his reflection. The condensed galaxy. He felt the pull towards the heavens, felt his need, no, desire to fly free, to drift about without a care. From the ashes of the implosion there bloomed a new life, a reincarnation of harmony.
The reflection bade only one thing: loss. A loss of place, a loss of tranquility, a loss of purpose. From the resolve to find meaning and protect this little planet from his own fate, he sealed his eyes, the lids still glowing faintly. Sitting back on his haunches, his tails coiled about his feet. He was a hollow shell of his former glory, a Void, and Abyss... He was Voided Abyss, the lost soul.
-------
He watched the makings of life, the transitions on the planet and guided along this planet, prolonging it's limited life. Abyss watched asteroids plummet into the surface. He even examined the remnants of such a meteor which flew off and began to encircle the planet. This was called a Lune. Or Lunar. It seemed fitting. Lune. The great sphere in the sky. It's flawless white, but pocked surface was like a mirror into his inner being. He seemed perfect, beautiful on the outside, but oh how he was jaded within. The animals here knew that, thus why he was avoided. It was unnatural for a heavenly body to walk the planet. Some called him Lune.
The Astral Fox walked the lines between his spacial world and the real world. He examined a species similar to his own unknown form, and decided to linger around for further investigations. They called him Lune, only until he gave them the name Abyss. He was called a god, hailed. Glorified. The adoration filled the hollow heart of the fox, giving him a place in the world.
Never before had the fox seen such displays of affection towards another being. Though it wouldn't last, as no joyous thing would last, nothing could remain forever. Voided Abyss lingered about, learning the ways of the clan, teaching what he knew. They called him the wandering spirit and agreed that after death, their spirits would follow him until they found their final resting place. Now, some might let this go to their head, the whole idea of being a god, and Abyss was no exception. He began to believe he was a god, believe that he made a difference, believe that he harbored intense power, which was true for the most part. He just let the clan take him in and do as they pleased, he just pointed them in favorable directions. For example, he might choose one myth over another about who he was, truth was, he didn't know who he was, and the stories gave him meaning, they made him feel... alive.
Nothing could last, nothing... He'd promised himself. The clan had sucked him in, he believe himself to be one of them. This lasted only so long as the pack allowed. He became a little too curious for his own good one day, digging too deep into matters while the pack slept. He'd fallen for one of the females, fallen hard for her. She'd been one of the few to remain wary of him, to remain out of the way, to always call him Lune, and he'd needed to know more. Surely she'd not run away, why would she? He was a god. His thinking was flawed. As Abyss approached the female in her sleep and woken her, the following events occurred so rapidly that no one could have really done anything. No one was at fault and it shouldn't have happened as it did...
She woke with a start, growling as she normally might, but as the silvery female looked up, the sight of Abyss gave her such a shock that she snapped at him. Abyss growled back, snapping in reply. The surprise of an attack caught the two off and only when the silver fox took off for the forest did trouble begin. Abyss followed her, his hunt instinct triggered. He trailed her mercilessly. Once she stopped, he landed hard on her, his full bulk landing her hard in the ground. His eyes were blind with the need to hunt as his teeth narrowed on her hackles.
She laid still, too frightened to move, her heart racing a mile a minute. Only when everything slowed and both could process what happened did Abyss panic. His tails curled between his legs while he backed away into the dark, his glow being the only thing to betray his hiding place. No words expressed his deep shame, his stabbing fear of what he;d become, a monster, and he hated it.
The female made it back to the pack, however Abyss never returned, too distraught over what he'd become. How could one be so foolish as to allow their selves to be corrupted so completely by curiosity and the need to belong? How could he allow his head to be filled with lies and misconceptions?
Where did you draw the line between belonging... and conforming?
With a resolve to never again love, to never allow emotion to become so... consuming, Abyss vanished off the face of the planet. It was called the days of Black sky, where the Lune never showed. Such a phenomenon couldn't be explained. No one could explain the lack of the moon for thirty nights and days. His selfish sulking made his planet suffer, something he;d never wanted to see. It was a mess, and it was all his own fault... The fox returned, remaining in hiding and emptying his being of those emotions.... But they wouldn't leave... The galaxy felt love, hate, fear... all the good, all the bad.
------
Years upon years went by without a sound from him except from the occasional sighting, but it was as though he'd died or fallen off the planet. More sightings were occurring, this was as good a sign as any, though for what, no one knew.
That silver she-fox had died many generations before, her children's childen had passed on, and generations later, Abyss felt the guilt of his narcissism and faced his thorns with a file. He'd take one of her children under him to care for. Any one. He'd love them, give them a home, care for them...
As he'd know, years would pass without a fitting child. They were all so loved, and all had homes, but one day he'd make her proud... he'd show her that he'd never meant harm and he'd care for her kin as he'd so longed to care for her. Perhaps, where ever it was that he'd go when he truly died, she'd be waiting, his first love...
The rose, his silver rose had bloomed, and now he had to go and find the rose and allow the glorious moon flower to bestow its gift of life upon him, to allow him to bask in the warmth of love again. He'd guard the child forever, call her his own and raise her to the light.
He'd nurture his silver rose and allow her to flourish.
Years upon years would go by without a child to bestow his promise upon, but one day, one day he'd find that child to care for, to raise from din. Until that day he had to keep to his resolve to protect this little planet.
He is a wandering spirit. He is Lune.
He is Voided Abyss.
