Story: Aislinn panted as she struggled to gallop before the large sandstorm that was nearly devouring her. She quickly glanced back to look at the monster that ragged behind her. She needed to get to an oasis, she needed rest, and water.. Aislinn began to feel dehydrated ,she felt faint and dizzy. She shook her head trying to forget the dizziness, she began to think about this blazing summers day, the hot July air giving no mercy to her thirsty mouth. Aislinn kept running and began to think of how she ended up in this situation in the first place....
Aislinn trotted happily over the small dunes of the day-lit desert. The sun set slowly in the orange-y pink sky as the stars and moon began to show. Soon it would be dark and Aislinn needed a place to rest. She scanned the isolated area that she was in to find that not only was she alone, she could only see sand for miles and miles. Aislinn sighed, this is what her everyday life was going to be like? She didn't know that life in the desert could be so boring for a mare to grow up in. Aislinn now being three years old, has been there and seen it all. She has seen sunset and rise, the silhouettes of other mustangs, fighting , the little hope in others, and even the pain and suffering the desert can cause... Aislinn's mother had passed away when she was a yearling and never knew her father. Although that had happened Aislinn never seemed depressed , she was a bright and happy soul.
Aislinn dragged her hooves along the soft sand, concentrating on finding an oasis. She had traveled 18 dunes from the last oasis that she had took rest at, the next should only be 3 more away. Aislinn snorted,
"I need to get there faster.." She soon broke into a cantered and began to canter off into the falling sunset. Standing on the last dune that was meant to stand before the next oasis she looked up over the darkened evening. All fell silent , she knew the predator could be out soon and she needed to be in a safe place. The winds were beginning to pick up and soon there would be sand storms.
The silence was broken by the sound of sand being flicked into the air, Aislinn's head quickly shot round half expecting to see a predator, half expecting to flee. She flinched before her gaze fell upon a small Red bay filly. Aislinn tilted her head,
"Hello?"The filly giggled and did a half rear then cantered off and came back again.
"W-what is your name?" Aislinn asked hoping for an answer. The filly stood there swishing her tail,
"My name is Haruhi, what's yours?" Aislinn shifted her head back to normal stood looking at the filly,
"I am Aislinn," Aislinn watched the filly turn and look back and then turn back around again,
"Where is your herd?" Haruhi asked her, still that little smile upon her face.
"Um.. Well I don't have one." Haruhi's eyes shoneand her face expression looked curious,
"Really?! Well, where will you sleep?" Aislinn sighed, she didn't like being bombed with questions,
"Well, I have nowhere to stay I was hoping to find an Oasis - Before Aislinn could say anymore Haruhi jumped in,
"Why don't you come with me! There is an Oasis just down here! Look!" Haruhi jumped around and pointed her muzzle towards the right. Aislinn looked over, ' How in high heavens did I miss that?!' She thought looking at the large Oasis below.
"C'mon, Lets go!" The filly jumped down the sand dune and cantered towards the grass land. Aislinn began to gallop and quickly caught up to the filly and heading towards the Oasis she had hoped for.
When they had gotten there, it was know surprise when there was other mustangs there. Why would there be one small filly all alone in this big fulfilling Oasis? Aislinn rolled her eyes and then began to walk closer. Two other mustangs wondered over to where they were standing,
"And who is this you bring Haruhi?!" a deep voice, that had to be a stallions, exclaimed.
"Father, this is Aislinn." Haruhi smiled up at her,
"Um, hello.." Aislinn said shyly,
"What do you seek here?" The stallion asked rather rudely,
"Father! This is a guest, have some respect!" The other creamy mustang said.
"What he means to say is, what would you like here and do you mean harm? I am Serelle, and the grumpy stallion here is my father Con Artist, but you can call him - "
Connor, you can call me Connor." He still said with a sharp tone. Aislinn was a little shocked at all that was happening but tried to reply with a little more bravery,
"I mean no harm to any of you at all, all I wish for is a place to rest and regain my strength if that is at all possible? I have been searching for an oasis so full for a while now..." Aislinn looked up hopefully to the stallion,
"Fine, you may rest and stay here for as long as you need." Aislinn was relieved, "Thank you, thank you so much." She smiled to him and received an approving nod. Haruhi smiled up to Aislinn,
"Come on! You must be thirsty! I'll race to the drinking hole!" Aislinn let out a little laugh before taking off after the filly to get a refreshing drink.
After a few days of resting at the Oasis Aislinn had a good relationship with each of the members here, they were like family to her now. But she knew that one day it would be time to leave once more and that she would dread the day it came. There was something different about this day, a difference which saddened her, she knew it was the day to leave. She trotted over to the edge of the Oasis the soft grass hitting her hooves. Connor, Haruhi and Serelle all followed her as she went off. Aislinn finally turned to looked at them all and she knew that if she could cry, tears would be rolling down her face that moment.
"Well I must go, there is many things that I wish to see in my life time. I will miss you all greatly." Haruhi stepped forward and looked up to her with sad eyes,
"Must you really go now Aislinn?" You could hear the sadness in her little cracked voice,
"Yes Haruhi, there is so much things for me to do. And if I can, I will return to you all." Aislinn smiled to her,
"You would really come back?" Haruhi whimpered,
"Of course I would." Connor looked up to her,
"You are welcome back at any time Aislinn remember that." Aislinn smiled to him,
"I will, thank you Connor, for everything." Connor simply smiled and nodded. Serelle walked over to her,
"Aislinn I'll miss you so much, we all will." Aislinn's smile wobbled,
"I will miss you all too." With that it meant it was time to leave, she nodded to them walked off into the dangerous desert.
"Be careful, Aislinn."Aislinn felt sand hit her and that snapped her back to the present. And that is how she got in the situation. After she left she had walked all around the desert searching for something different that would amuse her, something unique. Why did she leave in the first place? She was happy? She began to run out of breath, the sand storm gaining on her. Sand would soon fill her lungs and cause her to fall and not get back up again.. The sand storm was nearly upon her and all seemed lost. There had been so much she wanted to do,She wanted to find a mate and have a family, maybe even join a heard, see a beautiful butterfly... she had never seen one before.. Then Aislinn thought of all the happened, her sight was draining from her dizziness, if she remembered correctly from how she got in this situation, then according to her calculations there should be an Oasis right... Aislinn jumped to the left and landed on her side on something soft. It was sand. It was grass. She quickly hobbled up and hopped into a cave she once knew.
Then all .. went .. black.....
Aislinn's eyes began to open but all was still a blur. She could see figure's stand above her and they were, talking.
"L-look f---er, ---'s awake" a faint voice could be heard,
"A-, Ais-, Aislinn!" Aislinn finally opened her eyes fully and her vision was now clear. Around her stood Connor, Serelle and Haruhi. A smile spread across her face, she tried talking but was too fragile.
"Quick, let's help her to her hooves." Aislinn adapted to her weight as the others helped her get up.
"Come now, take a drink." Connor lead her out of the cave and over to the drinking hole. Aislinn drank quickly, oh how refreshing it was! She felt hydrated once more and then began to munch on the sweet soft grass. For once Haruhi wasn't talking just smiled happily. Connor spoke up once more,
"You know, there hasn't been rain since the day you left. Now look." They both looked to the sky, the sun was covered by dark grey shadowy clouds.
"Maybe us long mane's do bring across rain." They both laughed. Aislinn lifted up her muzzled and began to sniff the air and suddenly she felt something tickling the end of her nose, it wasn't rain, not yet. She sneezed and there and then flew from her, was a brightly coloured butterfly. Aislinn gasped in awe at the dancing colours of the magnificent creature. She finally saw, a butterfly.
