The first thing that popped into my head was the great god and mother to us all Amaterasu and her 13 brush technique gods from Okami. I am actually currently replaying the game XD so I bet thats why that came to me..

He kind of reminds me of candy canes, and because candy canes are a winter treat and makes my think of the cold and pine trees I decided I would name him Taiga since that area seems to really fit what I think of when I look at him.
