(I'm doing my story in the perspective of Shasta ^^)
I didn't get much sleep last night, the wind was strong, stirring up the desert sand and blowing it into my eyes. The herd was huddled up, with the foals in the middle to keep the sand from getting to them. Finally the sun rose in the sky, created a beautiful pink sunrise. The wind quit pestering us and left us alone for once. Everyone was tired and just wanted to sleep but we had to go find food. The leader led our herd to a near by waterhole. The water wasn't as cool and refreshing as I wished it was but I still managed to drink a lot and take a quick swim. The water grabbed at my mane causing it to drip against my right side. I got out of the water and snacked on some shrubs, making sure to leave some for the foals and mares that needed more food than I did. There was no sent of humans, or predators near by so my herd continued to relax. One mare who was heavily pregnant, lay in the water, trying to cool her self off as she struggled with a baby inside her. I got a little nervous around her, that when the foal was born the sire would kick me out of the herd for safety. I kept my distance from the whole herd, it didn't seem they completely trusted me yet, as I was a new member.
We grazed most of the day, I didn't eat as much as I would have liked, because the leader kept glaring at me, making sure I didn't hog all the food. At about noon, the wind started to stir again and we all huddled together and napped for a couple hours. When we awoke the pregnant mare was gone. I wondered how she had the courage to leave the herd in her condition. Though I wouldn't leave to find her, the leader wouldn't like that. And he didn't look concerned, so nether was I. We spent our day like any normal day, nothing was different besides a missing member of our herd. We grazed and drank water. I played with the twin foals, I would let them chase me until they got to tired and ran back to their mother. Their mother always gave me these soft looks, as if she was thanking me, I would nuzzle her as if saying, "It's no problem." It seemed she was the only friend I had in the herd, she was the only one who trusted me. The sun started to set, and I got worried because the pregnant mare was still missing. Finally I could see her silhouette, and another's. She was walking back with a small, dusty foal behind her. He was still wobbly on his feet but very cute. The leader raced over to her, and you could see his joy with every stride he took. When they reached the herd everyone greeted the new member, and the sun set. It was dark, and the stars rose higher in the sky. Soon we were all asleep, ready to great a new day.
