Some of them are - there's a pretty wide range in coat legths with them. The European dogs tend to be mountains of fur while the American ones are shorter (more like a plush coat), and males usually have longer coats and heavier feathering and ruffs than females. The one I've got up now is a female - a male would be hairier and have a different face.

To demonstrate (and, yes, to show off lots of Berner pictures), here are photos of a
plush female, a
plush male, a
full-coated female and a
full-coated male. They're all the same breed, just different lines. Lots of lines also have dogs that are in between, like my two are. ^^

Awww, they're gorgeous! <3 Heh, I love that the pups are on a sheep blanket - getting them started early, eh? XD It's great to hear that Fly is doing well at the whole motherhood thing; that's always a big relief. From the colours of the pups and parents, I'm guessing Fly is genetically black (possibly BB?), and you've pretty much confirmed that your boy carries gold. ^^ They're both beautiful dogs, and I imagine their pups will be pretty awesome for working/show prospects. Any idea which one you'll be keeping yet or will you wait to see how their conformations are turning out before you start thinking about that? One of my Berner breeder friends had her heart set on one of the boys in her last litter (even naming him 'Keeper'), but when the pups reached six weeks she realized his sister was slightly better than he was and still couldn't bear to sell him, so she ended up keeping both. XD
