Why would you like this character/What will you do for this character?:
Firstly, I love her design~ She's really nice, a mix of natural and non-natural colors and patterns. She would be used as a character, and the mate for another character of mine. She would have art drawn of both her, and of her and the other character. She'd also probably get a spot if I wright a story~
Image
Personality:
Alessia is a sweet, gentler horse. She is shy, yet also very wild. While she tends to draw back and not speak, she is still a very smart horse, and capable of giving a good kick if you aggravate her. She's a loyal, loving horse, with a good heart.

Chinese New Year: Ox
Birthdate: 28th October

Species: White-tailed deer
Magic Power: Telepathy & Mind Reading
Class: Magical Creature

Kennel Number: 64

Why would you like this character/What will you do for this character?: This character really stood out to me. I'm not 100% sure why. Perhaps it was just the fact that you don't see many deer adoptable's around these days. Maybe it was the colour (Blue sorta draws me in, like a moth to a flame :/). Anyways in the ways of what I will do for her. I will probably make her a mate and put her on my charrie thread. On there I will add some more info on her talents and stuff.
On a Scale of 1-5, How Much Are You In Love With This Character:872324876329649827407104724738968!!!

Personality: Cloud is really quite a mysterious creature. She likes to keep to herself sometimes and just think. She can often be found in a quiet place sitting down with her eyes closed, just thinking. But then when you least expect it she will jump out and become a bubbly fun loving friend! Cloud does love to have fun with her pals and is quite the gamer. She is extremely loyal and maybe thats why she has no trouble at all making new friends. Once she forms a bond with someone she sticks to it until the end. Cloud's psychic powers definitely make her a lot different than all the others. She has the ability to move objects with her mind and read the thoughts of others standing near her. She usually uses her powers as little as possible, at first Cloud didn't like being different, she just wanted to fit in and be normal. Although she doesn't use her powers often there are not many that don't know about it. Maybe her glowing blue eyes are a bit of a giveaway?

Name: Diza Sahara
Gender: female
Species:fennec fox
Kennel Number:3
Why would you like this character/What will you do for this character?:
Use her for stories, sometimes art, and give her a permanent place in my characters page which has a link from my sig!
Personality:
Hot-tempered, easily annoyed, annoying and bossy.
History:
She was born in the hot, heated, sunlit desert. For some reason she had unusually thick fur, and was always hot. This made her irritable and hot tempered, and so she grew up as a beautifullly colored, but snappy young fennec fox.
Most fennec foxes were attracted to her beauty, but she just snapped at them angrily, and so she became mroe and more and more isolated as the others started to neglect her. . .
She didn't care. She was happy to be left alone in peace in her own cool underground cave. That is, until she met the fox who would change her life forever.
A friendly, talkative male; the perfect opposite of Diva Sahara; appeared and stumbled into her cave. He kept talking, and at first Diva was annoyed. But more and more she felt a liking to him, until she changed slowly, one by one, until she could smile and nod, and come out to the sunlight.
Other:
Unique designs. . .I've always loved fennec foxes too! (And Starmz, if you happen to see I'm just copying your center/color because it looks awesome on forms :))

Why would you like this character
I have been looking for a partner, not a second fursona or anything, for my fursona Basil. He needs a friend, basically. Basil is right now my only character and I've been curious to see if there were any that interested me. Then I saw this guy. He was amazing. I loved his design, and the colors are perfect for my preferences. I especially loved the sort of sandy coloration on his underbelly. I think he'll fit as a character for me, and as a sort of side-kick for Basil.
What will you do for this character?:
He will certainly have art from me and from other people ^^ One of my favorite things to do is order art for my fursona, and having a new character will make ordering art more fun. Not only that, but he will have his own spectacular page on my character site. I've really fallen in love with this design, I am infatuated with the simplicity. I'm surprised no one else was after him.

Name:
Chipotle

Gender:
Male

Species:
Wolf

Personality:

Energetic
Chipotle is very energetic. He is eager to go about and do things as he wants them done. Chip loves racing about, and it's very hard for him to lose his bounds of energy. Basil often has a hard time keeping up with him, as he has much less energy, and less need to run about.

Curious
As many are, Chip is very curious. He likes to explore and learn about his environment, and is interested in a lot of things, including other wolves, other wildlife, plants, humans, and the latter. His curiosity is shared by Basil, and they enjoy going on little adventures together.

Manipulative
Chipotle loves having people do what he says, but the problem is not many like it as much as he does. Based on this factor, Chip has learned to be incredibly manipulative. He bends and twists his and other's words until it sounds to them like they do want to listen, and most often they do.

Loyal
Chip is loyal to Basil, but only really him. They're best buds and always there for one another. If Chipotle only thinks Basil is in trouble, he will still go see. Basil would do the same. Chip will fight for his friends and defend them through anything.

Carefree
Chip is loyal, curious, and yet still carefree. Every day is the best day for him. He has practically no sense of danger or trouble, unless it involves a best friend. He doesn't notice if he's in trouble. Chipotle is very easy-going, and knows how easily he can escape problems. He loves going about without a sense of danger in his head.

Name:

Gre'er
[Corrupted Welsh, "Guardian"]
Gender:
Male
Species:
American Pit Bull Terrier
Kennel Number:
78

Why would you like this character/What will you do for this character?:

To be honest, I rarely know why I really want a character. Usually, it's a strong pull of desire, or inspiration. And that's the case with Gre'er - I am incredibly inspired by him, and I want to act on this inspiration. He'll be written, drawn, and perhaps sculpted (as a few lucky characters of mine are already). Not all of what I do reaches the Internet, but rest assured that he will not sit and collect dust - he will instead be a seeing-eye guardian for one of my other characters, a constant, necessary companion in their lives.

Personality:

Loving. Pit bulls aren't very well known for their companionable nature, but Gre'er is not alone in his loving personality. This love creates a laundry list of other personality points, the most notable being his loyalty and selflessness. He would give his life for his handler, if the need arose.
Energetic. Gre'er needs a lot of exercise, as most dogs of his type do. He hates being cooped up for too long, and will become restless and moody if the situation does not improve.
Patient. A dog that works with someone that is handicapped has to be a patient creature. Gre'er is a model of this trait, having had the trait trained into him from a very young age.
Easily rewarded. When Gre'er does something right, all he really needs is a smile and a pat on the head to reinforce his behavior. All he wants is to please his handler, and those little signs are all it takes to let him know that he's doing the right thing.

History:

WIP
Other:

This idea comes from a combination of a newer character of mine that's been floating in my head, and a seeing-eye dog that appears on campus every now and again. Every time I see this dog, though I cannot and will not touch him, I have to smile, and he always wags his tail at me when I do so. This is not his story, though.

Image

Name:
Mirage

Gender:
Male

Species:
Ferret; Mustela putorius furo

Kennel Number:
5

Why would you like this character?:
Well, as an artist, his design enchants me beyond end. The way the simple colours clash and dance together, the greys, blues and yellows. As an owner of five ferrets, and one ferret character, he seems so much like a classic weasel; cheeky, hidden, ever so slightly crazy, but still with those sweet features hidden deep within.

TL;DR; He intrigues me in ways more than one. It's a selfish pull to him.

What will you do for this character?:
For Mirage, I will draw him as well as order art. He'll have a space on my character thread and possible a little lady friend. While I may not be skilled at weasels yet, I will work harder on their anatomy to draw him, because his design is so pretty.

Personality:
Mirage is as his name implies. He's shrouded in mystery, deep in the fog of darkness. He's lithe, making people doubt his tiny existence in their life. While he seems like a classic weasel villain, pertained as a dark mysterious trouble maker with no feelings of empathy of sympathy, his little heart is drenched in them. He likes to think they aren't there, but he has them. While he calls them weakness, others would call those feelings strength, if only Mirage would realize it.

He's brief in his ways, trying to get things done quickly and as clean as possible. While weasels are viewed as a bad omen, Mirage is viewed as a demon.

History:
Soft.
That was the feeling of the kit.
Soft and warm.

The girl picked up the barely 'child' ferret, before nuzzling her face to his. The kit opened his eyes lazily, before crawling up into her hair, snorting as he did.

~

Mirage was born to a pet female, owned by his previous owner's parent's friend's cousin.
He was adopted in by the girl of 16 as an early Christmas gift.
While she had him, Mirage was but a playful kit. He wasn't as cheeky or malevolent as he would grow to be.

He stayed with the girl and her family for almost a year and a half, until his girl passed away unexpectedly. The parents, distraught, wanted nothing to do with Mirage as he reminded them so much of their darling daughter.
They gave him away to the nearest child who's family allowed it.

He was then in the ownership of a seven year old boy. Obviously this was a bad decision, with the boy knowing nothing of proper care nor how to behave. He treated Mirage poorly, like a toy, throwing him around, sometimes neglecting him for 'punishment'.

Mirage started to bite in protection, which upset the parents, who, despite the young boys grief for losing his toy, set the ferret lose.
They took him out to a nearby Nature Reserve, before going back home.

Mirage reveled at first, sitting in the sun, playing in the leaves. He lived off mice and grubs, sometimes food picnickers would give him.
Winter came and he grew cold in the snow. His little body was cold and near death, when a ranger came upon him.

Mirage became half-pet half-wild. He would visit the ranger and his wife in their 'cottage' for food and warmth, while secretly loving the attention he was given.

He kept up his opinion of himself, biting them for good measure, fighting with wild weasels who were more fit for the wild than him, sometimes getting in scraps with domestic dogs taken on walks.

Other:
I don't think so, no <3~

Name:
Neva

Gender:
Thought to be female.

Species:
Psychic Deer; Psychosis Cervidae

Kennel Number:
64

Why would you like this character?:
Why I would like Neva... I don't know, really; unlike Mirage, I don't have a reason. Neva's design isn't something I'd usually like, and I'd look over her several times without a thought. Just, the fifth or so time I went over her, I stopped. I don't know why I want her, but I want her.

What will you do for this character?:
For Neva, I will draw her. While I haven't drawn Deer before, she is a dear (oh my ._.).
She will have a place on my character thread as well.

Personality:
Neva is a sort of all-knowing creature. She is gifted, I suppose, with psychic abilities. She's quiet, quirky and calm. She likes to hide in dark corners, and is mostly scared of people. Neva is a bit jumpy, and while she is usually harmless, she has been known to give head-aches to predators by tapping into their mind.

Neva isn't one to talk of her past, nor her present nor future. I suppose you could also see her as a sort of 'River Song' or 'uraniumUmbra' with her "spoilers!" act.

History:
"Has Experiment D2 shown any signs?"
"Negative."
"D3?"
"Negative."
"D4?"
"..."
"D4?"
"It says it's name is 'Neva'."
"Success."

Two scientists stood in front of a cage. One was a short, chubby woman in a lab coat and the other an older male, dressed in a suit.

"This is the first successful attempt at creating Psychosis Cervidae?" the suited male spat out, not waiting for an answer before beginning again. "It looks weak," he hissed.

"Pardon." a voice slithered into the mind of all in the room. "Weak? The human race is weak. They are to be wiped out, easily. No fight." it announced, before the blue and black deer put it's head out of the bars. "N-Neva..." the chubby female quivered slightly, ever so afraid, "Please," she frowned, at which the voice stopped with the spoilers.

If the psychic deer had a weak spot at this age, it was the scientist who raised her. The male in the suit harrumphed.
"Discipline it."

-o-

Months after the suited man's visit, the young deer had grown up a bit, but had also become scared and afraid.
They had started to refer to it as a female, and Neva had picked up on that, also using feminine words to explain herself.

The scientist who raised her had been moved to a different lab;
it was for 'disciplinary' purposes.
The scientist had been Neva's safe person, who calmed her and loved her.
When they took her away, Neva grew even more scared and cooperative.

"When is she coming to visit?" the voice sounded scared and shy, small in the back of their minds. "When you behave! Now get back!" she was snapped at, and Neva jumped and ran to the corner of her cage. After a minute of cowering in fear of physical punishment, she slowly walked up to her place. In front of her was a small computer like thing.

She focused on it. She didn't know what it did, but they insisted on her working 'with' it.

"Brain waves are same as yesterday. No.. No. They've escalated slightly; her power is growing."

ene

"EMERGENCY!" a loud voice bleeped over the speaker which was in almost every room of the laboratory. "Experiment D4, Neva, has escaped! She mustn't leave the premises!"

The fleeing Neva stopped for a moment. She was still on the Laboratory grounds, just outside. It was weird and new to her, but all that was in her mind was escape.

A voice came from behind and Neva jumped back, preparing to confuse them or something.

"Neva! Wait! It's me!" the voice cried, halting Neva's 'attack'. The deer blinked and slowly approached the scientist, before nuzzling her. "Where have you been! They said you'd visit if I was good..." the voice mumbled and stuttered, but the scientist hushed her. "Neva, I'm going to help you. I'll open the gates. Then you have to run, okay?" the female spoke, pulling away from the deer.

"This way, Neva," she instructed, running towards the gate. She clicked a button, and entered a password on the machine next to the gate. It clicked open, and Neva hesitated. "Go! Please, Neva!"

The female deer ran. She ran as fast as she could.

A Forbidden Friendship, so alive
Despite the hate it's members thrive
A hated relationship the key
To unlock friends of harmony
And now the two will always be
Partners wanted for treachery.

Why would you like this character
Wesleydog would know.
I have an addiction to Australian Shepherds. They're so adorable and gorgeous, I love them. My own fursona is an Aussie mix. I eyed this one and the female below her for a while, and now that I have time to write a form I feel very bonded with this girl. I love her simple coloration. The fact that her ears are floppy and her tail is short makes her all the more incredible and irresistible for me. Now that I've grown attached to the design, I have to go for her.
What will you do for this character?:
I plan on treating her like a princess. I already love her a lot. A special place in my character website and tons of art. Her design is so adorably simple and easy to replicate, I think it will be hard not to get art of her. She deserves it too. I want to give her a good home, and on top of that, a new family within my characters.

Why would you like this character:
Have I mentioned I'm an addict for Pit Bulls as well?
Pits are my life at the moment, I have my own and love her to bits. Pibbles and Aussies are my current dog-related obsessions. This fella caught my eye first when I saw him. I adore the simple design, yet it's complicated in a way. His reddish brown facial marking has a similar color to my own dog's color, making him even more amazing. Plus, he's a Pit! This absolute gorgeous coloration on my favorite breed of dog snared this boy a spot in my heart <3
What will you do for this character?:
Treat him as greatly as I aim to treat the Aussie. My two favorite breeds, together, it's an amazing sight. I've already got a lot planned for these two, although it depends on how busy I get, and how much time and effort I'll be able to put into it. This fella will get art and a character page and all like the Aussie will. <3

Personality:

Clever
Bailey was raised with a rich family. Her owners were both famous scientists, and she learned a lot from them, including a lot about science and history. Now she has an exceedingly well developed brain and is capable of tricks that other dogs wouldn't be able to do. Bailey can tell shapes, pictures, sounds, and all sorts of other things, and is easily able to respond to them.
Touchy
A lot like her owners, Bailey is fidgety and touchy about a lot. She has to have everything be "perfect" and dislikes asymmetrical things. She isn't just touchy about those sorts of things either; Bailey is also touchy about her past. She hates talking about it and refuses anyone who wants to know something. Bailey doesn't mind if they get angry with her, as long as no one knows what happened.
Thoughtful
A large brain requires a lot of thinking. Bailey loves to think, and is incredibly thoughtful. She likes to think about all sorts of things, including dreams of hers, academic principles, challenging puzzles, and possibilities that might be succeeded. Bailey can sometimes be a bit too thoughtful, unfortunately for her. She is sometimes late for supper because she has become 'lost in thought'.
Skittish
Being raised by humans all her life, Bailey is slightly skittish. She's easily surprised and fearful, especially of new things. A lot take advantage of this, and Bailey is having a harder and harder time coping. She is afraid that she will lose it completely one day, and then she will be afraid of absolutely everything. So far though she is mostly fine and dealing with her fears and skittish behaviours.
Somewhat Snotty
Rich people aren't always stuck up and snotty. Bailey is only sometimes. What this means is she does tell people off, but not at the littlest things like her owners sometimes do. She's more likely only to go off when she feels threatened or hurt. No, she doesn't stick her nose in the air when she fights back either. Bailey snarls at them and snaps threateningly, which is surprising for such a tame dog.

~~~
Personality:
Excited
Rataxes is easily excited and loves to be. He is overactive and hyper, so even small excitement causes him to go into a hyperactive excitement rage. He's slowly mellowing out as he grows older, but it isn't going very quickly. The other dogs are fast to avoid him if he gets excited. Rataxes is known to snap and bite others if he goes over the top. Although he is super excitable, he does know when to stop.
Courageous
Living in the streets and fending for himself has given Rataxes a courage not seen commonly in other dogs. He is beyond brave, and has practically no sense of fear. Rataxes would rather laugh in the face of danger than fight or run from it. He can be adventurous, but this is thanks to his sense of amazing courage. Most dogs flee the catcher, but Rataxes chases him like the mailman. He loves showing off his bravery.
Somewhat Dimwitted
Not having a mother or father to teach him, Rataxes isn't very smart. He knows the streets, best places to get food, and plenty of street senses, but other than that he doesn't know very much. He hates when people make fun of him for it, and will bite if he does something stupid and others laugh. He may not be smart but he is powerful and not afraid to attack you if you truly deserve it.
Strong
Rataxes is a pit bull, and those dogs are known to be pure muscle. He is very strong, but not just outside his mind, inside it as well. Rataxes will not break for anything, whatever the consequences. He's been known to hold secrets for friends and never let anyone else know, even if they attack him. He also uses his physical strength to defend truth and secrets, so most don't bother him about it, making him stronger inside.
Willing
Rataxes is surprisingly willing. As long as there is something in it for him, he's in. Rataxes provides the brute strength and cunning needed to do a lot of jobs, and has been pretty willing to do them. This is liked by many, but despite his willingness to do things he is still treated with a lot of respect. He is also willing in another sense; Strong-Willed, and less likely to be hurt by emotion.
H i s t
o r y :
October Tenth;
1880
;Abingdon Street;
Bailey
The small pup whimpered as she snuffled around, searching in desperation for her mother's side. Her mother, a gentle pure-bred Australian Shepherd, nudged the pup towards her, allowing it to suckle her warm milk. The other pups followed. The mother whimpered slightly as she grew tired and it became harder for her to breath. She continued to feed her pups, despite the pain.
The dogs were all set up in a soft, cozy environment, so as not to stress the mother. She lay on a large, silken pillow surrounded by red velvet drapes, and was in perfect privacy. Her owners sat outside on a small, formal couch, wearing their finest so as to look great when they saw the pups. The woman, Lida, worried greatly. Her darling Aussie had gone into fits going into labor, and she feared the dog would not survive.
Moments later, a soft whimpering and whining echoed from the covered den. There were pups alright, and it sounded like a lot of them. The sire of the pups, a large and gentle Australian Shepherd known as Baron, perked his ears and slowly started wagging his tail. He was highly trained out of getting excited, but this was a big moment. His litter, the pups he had sired, were born. The owners stood, Lida tightening her grip on her husband's hand. It was the moment of truth; They were to pick one dog out of the litter, and the rest would be sold once they reached weaning. She trembled slightly, taking uneven steps towards the bed. "My dearest, be not afraid. I am here to catch you. Your darling Melli is still alive, I am assured. It is unlikely she died through giving birth. She's a strong dog." Lida's husband, Peter, comforted his wife gently. They stopped just before the bed, and kneeled down to take a look.
Lida smiled at Peter, and he gave her a quick peck on the cheek. He grinned, then whistled to call Baron. The father would most likely want to see his pups, wouldn't he? Baron eagerly slid forward, skidding across the slippery marble tiles as his claws clicked the ground. He had lost all composure in his excitement, but regained it as he fell three times on the ground. He assumed a professional position, and sat beside Peter looking down at the bed. His body trembled slightly, with massive excitement building up. "Well... This is the big moment Peter. The unveiling of my baby girl's children." Lida shook fearing the worst. Peter put an arm around her, in a comforting gesture. "Let us see what God* has blessed our delightful Melli with." Lida nodded and allowed Peter to pull back the velvet curtains surrounding the dog. As soon as she saw the sight within, she screamed. Her world went black, as Lida fainted to the floor.
The slum dogs had all surrounded the female; A large pit bull with vicious fangs and wicked claws. She was called the Queen of the slum, and was the only female allowed to reproduce and have her pups protected. She was going into labor for the Eighth time in her life. She groaned and was quick to snap at any dog who dared try to come near. The only one she trusted was Barbit, her mate. He helped protect her as she went in and out of labor. As the pups arrived, she nudged them towards herself and they were quick to suckle with pleasure.
The fea's milk was slightly spoiled, as the food in the slums was rotten and mostly garbage. She frowned dislikingly as she saw some of her pups, as many were small and undesirable. She cast them into the crowd of slum dogs, where their lives were spent to feed the canines. Two survived, a small powerful male and a little female who had pushed all the others out of one area and only fed there. Their mother was pleased at their strength and abilities. She allowed them to nurse while Barbit remained on the defensive. Deciding it was soon time to leave the slums and raise her surviving pups,she stood and snatched them both up in her massive jaws. Barbit scattered the slum dogs, and the pair walked off, to a better part of the city. There would be better food for her pups there, and they would grow stronger and be able to defend their mother.
She traveled for a while, but finally arrived at her destination. An ambulance whizzed past the pit, and Barbit snapped at it. She settled into a small alleyway and allowed her pups to suckle once more. Only, the female was no longer moving. She had died from exposure to the cold and loss of nutrients from milk. The female grumbled and cast the body away. She had no use for a dead pup. The male, however, was as lively as ever. His body appeared pure white, and he squirmed with a livelihood she had not seen in a long while.
The pit settled down, her nose in an old rotted steak. This was the rich part of town, and a ton of good would come from it. The male however, was uncomfortable in the area. He disliked the fact that many a dog catcher would travel trough it, and he growled at the fact. If he got rid of this last pup, however, he and the female could move back to their home, at safety in the slums. All at once, he decided. The pup was one of many; he could die and the fea wouldn't care. Barbit was sure of it. He steadied himself, with a slight grin to his mate. She eyed him uncertainly, and watched him carefully. Barbit trotted backwards into the alley, then ran at his mate full speed. She snarled with anger as he set to lock his jaws around her only pups neck.
Peter watched sadly as the ambulance sputtered, sending exhaust everywhere, then left. His wife had fainted, and probably suffered a concussion. Her favorite, most beloved dog. Melli, a sweet, harmless, and rather loving pure-bred Australian Shepherd. Dead. He looked at the body of the dog, which was covered by a soft silk blanket. Beneath the pups were squirming and feeding off their mother still; She had milk left and until it had all been sucked up they would suckle. Peter bent down and patted Baron, who was in an unfaltering emotional depression. He looked into the basket, at the pups, lifting the cloak to see them. Most were squirming like mad and acting like pups would, but one was not. This pup was very different, even in coloration. Her brothers and sisters all had a reddish to their premature coats. The little lady had black pigment, with a small amount of faded orange popping from beneath.
Peter took great interest in the pup. She was squirming much less than the others, and drank almost daintily from the last reserves of her mother's milk. He liked how she behaved, so calm and reserved. Not daring lift her up yet, Peter sat and marveled her soft coat, and how she was calmer than her rambunctious litter-mates. He watched her until the dead hours of the night. The pups became a mesmerizing sea of colors, and slowly Peter lost consciousness. He was so tired, so tuckered out from his wife's collapse. The next morning he was to visit her and they would pick out a pup from the litter to keep forever. Pete's thoughts swam and slowly he fazed out of consciousness, no longer able to hold the stress and his own tiredness.
Peter woke up and walked to the hospital. He did not wish to take the old buggy out, as she was an antique and would not do well in the rain soaked cobblestone road. The hospital was nearly empty, and Peter easily found his wife. Lida was about ready to go home. As soon as he walked in, she wept into his arms. Comforting her, he walked her home. They found the pups squealing and crying for more milk. "Lida, please, pick your favorite." Said Peter kindly. Lida nodded and, looking down at the pups again, felt tears streaming down her face once more. Her eyes were trained on the little black female. She gently lifted the puppy, who yipped and licked her face once, looking for milk with trained eagerness. Lida smiled, and put the puppy into Peter's arms. "This one, Peter. This one." He nodded and they adopted the little female, to have her become their beloved pet.
The fea snarled at her mate, her jaws firmly locked on the side of his head. The pup was safe, for now, but she knew she could not protect him like this forever. Barbit whined in pain, trying to release himself from her vice-like grip. She could crush his skull and he knew it. Barbit was released, just barely with his life. He stared at his former mate with such hatred and ferocity, it was unbearable for her. She wanted him out of there. Standing gingerly, so as not to hurt her pup, the pit snapped at her former mate, her fury unleashed in quick, short bites. He fled from her, knowing that they were no longer friends, but bitter, hating enemies.
The female snorted as he raced away, proud of herself. She returned to her final pup, nuzzling him lovingly, and licked his forehead. The pup suckled milk greedily, while his mother contemplated about what to do next. She would certainly have to take care of her pup, but she would also need to take care of herself. With Barbit out of the picture, she had no one to fetch food for her. During times like this, her mind flooded with ideas and often bad ones; Leaving her pup to a different family, teaching him to hunt for her at a very early age, and all sorts of crazy plans to survive.
She decided on neither the latter nor the first. The nameless female had the best idea that would benefit them both; Begging. While she might not be as good at it, teaching her puppy to beg early on would greatly increase their chance at survival. He was small, young, and cute. Irresistible to humans. Most would think of him as the most darling thing ever, and would most likely toss him some bread or possibly left over chicken. With this implemented in her brain, the fea went about taking care of her now beloved pup. It would take a lot of training to get him up to speed on what his job was, but it shouldn't have been too hard. The female just wanted to survive.
"Bailey! Get back here this instant!"
Peter laughed at the puppy. She was the most delightful thing he and Lida had had in their home in quite a while, ever since Melli died. Her littermates had been handed off and given away, but she was allowed to stay. Her remarkable coat patterns were much loved by the husband and wife, and so was her adoring personality. She was still quite young, but her rambunctiousness was expected.
"Gotta catch me first Master!" Barked the pup, although her master didn't understand her. Her name had been decided as Bailey, and she loved her family. Bailey ran about the house, skittering along the marble floors and leaving little scratch marks on the carpets, that the maid would later have to clean up. She was glad to have such a nice home, such loving owners; It was heaven on Earth.
Bailey was highly prized by the couple. She was a purebred, and had the best disposition possible for her breed. She was young, and beautiful, and lively. While most puppies would have trouble learning tricks, from their fidgety behavior and their want to play, Bailey learned easily and seemed eager to please her masters. She was clever, and had settled into their daily regime.
In the mornings, a simple ritual proceeded in which Bailey would awaken her masters. This was followed by breakfast; A bagel and coffee for Bailey, eggs and coffee for Peter, and eggs on toast for Lida, who wasn't a fan of coffee. The day continued as Peter went to work and Bailey went to look at a book in the library with Lida. She was a dog, but also a fan of books. The images interested her greatly. They read until Peter came home midday, and then all of them sat down for lunch. Afterwards, Peter went to a meeting or a demonstration with Lida, and Bailey was left alone. When the pair came home, a supper was had and they would settle down after for reading again in the library. It was truly Bailey's favorite thing in life.
But soon, something would change.
"Mother, I brought you dinner."
Rataxes, a small pup with sparkling curious eyes, dropped the old, partially green steak in front of his mother. He backed off, sitting nearby to wait. She smiled at him, and ate gladly. It was apparent that in her older age she was growing weaker and weaker, but that didn't stop her son from appeasing her great appetite. He could have killed her, even at his young age, but he chose to treat her with kindness and respect.
Rataxes fed off of his own, measly piece of steak, glad even though it was quite small. The taste of meat filled his belly and he thanked his lucky stars about where he was. His mother and him had not had a single tangle with the dog catchers or the richer off dogs the six months she and him had been through. She had taken time out of her life to raise Rataxes, had spent herself keeping him alive and safe, He loved his mother desperately, and would do anything for her.
Rataxes heard his mother calling, and fetched to her side. "Yes, mother?" He asked with politeness. "Drop the politeness my boy, it's not a street dog thing." She snapped back at him. He nodded. "What is it?" He growled, and she smiled approvingly. He grinned with success and sat down near her, licking her back where she couldn't reach. Arthritis had plagued the old dog, and she had many troubles moving about anymore. Time was against her anymore. Her son was her only chance of survival. If he left, she was as good as dead.
"Would you ever leave me, my boy?" She asked him softly. He looked away for a moment, thoughtful. "Not unless I was ordered to do so.." He replied gently. She nodded and licked his forehead with a sigh. He settled next to her, comfortable, happy, and satisfied. Rataxes wanted nothing at all to change, for this was the life of a king.
Unfortunately, change was all there was in his future.
Bailey was very excited. It was time for her to go for a walk.
Now, normally dogs would not be excited about this, but Bailey was incredibly excited. She was overjoyed, as she only got to go outside to the garden on most days. Her owners had decided, on her 1st birthday, to take their beloved pet to the park not far away. They trusted her off of her leash, as she was more loyal to them than they even knew.
Bailey jumped about, eagerly encouraging her masters to attach her leash. She had not worn her leash for a long time, but she was ready for it now. Peter laughed at her eagerness. "Here you are, my little pumpkin. Here we can go for a walk!" Lida smiled at her puppy, who was no longer a puppy. She was almost a full grown dog now. Lida and Peter both knew the sorts of dangers you could find on the streets. They had heard of their neighbors, whose dogs had run off to be with street mutts. Hopefully, Bailey would stay with them.
Rataxes nuzzled his mother, lovingly checking her joints and licking her fur clean. He was massive now; Pure muscle, thick bones, and a maw that took up half his face. "You sure you'll be fine alone for a while?" He asked her curiously, wondering about her truthfulness. "I'll be fine! Get out of here and have some fun" She replied with a nip. He smirked at her and trotted off.
Rataxes left the alley. He was going to the park to hang out for a while. His mother had allowed him to go. Still as rambunctious as a puppy, Rataxes hadn't changed much. He was still very eager and ready to go, not to mention how gleeful he was. So far, Rataxes had to fight off every single dog he had met. He had never been able to just talk to them, and not fight them. Now he had a chance to actually talk, and not fight. Most dogs saw him as dangerous; He was a pitbull. This was untrue. Rataxes simply wanted a friend, other than his mum. Perhaps, at the park, he might find one.
Bailey walked along eagerly, not pulling her leash but leaning slightly forward to get moving. She hated standing still. The streets were clean and crisp with recent rain, soft leaves billowing about in a wind. Peter cuddled Lida, and they went arm and arm behind their eager Aussie. Bailey was so curious; She only really got to see outside from in her home. "It's amazing out here! I can't believe I get to see other organisms continuing their own daily lives!" Bailey was overexcited about it. There was no reason for her excitement, but she didn't care.
It didn't take long to arrive at the park; It wasn't too far from the house, and the family had walked quickly. Yes, that's what they were, a family. She and her mum and dad, Lida and Peter weren't masters anymore. Mum and dad they were. "Alright, Bailey, you can come off your leash. Just don't run away" Peter released Bailey from her rope as soon as they were safely inside the park. She pranced about on the soft grass, her soft green collar ringing gently as she went. This was amazing, but soon it would become even stranger. This trip to the park would be life-changing.
Rataxes enjoyed his walk to the park. It was particularly calming, and he was happy to see it was no longer raining. He bounced along, hitting the sidewalk with a happiness never seen before. He was amazingly eager, happy, and just outright optimistic. A house-dog could be expected of this. Normally, though, street mutts were pessimistic; they believed they had the glass half empty. Nothing fazed Rataxes from his eager state. He was just too excited to slow down. This trip to the park only made him happier. As soon as he returned to his mother, they could settle down again, but with a much happier Rataxes.
Rataxes perked his ears suddenly, pausing in his excited hopping. A man, who thought he was silent, thought very wrong. Rataxes knew exactly what was going on. He waited carefully, timing his steps. Every single step this man took rang in his ears "One.... Two... Three!" He took off, flying down the street, catching the man by surprise. The guy fell over himself, after thinking he had the dog in his net. Rataxes laughed, watching the man fall flat on his face. He jumped a fence right into the park and gladly trotted along. A feeling filled him and he ran about, eyes closed. Normally he would have navigated easily. Instead, this time, he slammed into something, or someone. This was a moment that would change his life.
Both. In. Blue.
Bailey groaned, standing up and using a paw to dust herself off. "What was that fo...." She stopped mid-sentence and stared at the one who slammed into her. A tall, strong looking dog with tannish-white fur and a sunset-red marking around his eye. He stood up, muscles rippling beneath his short coat, and shaking his soft, floppy ears over and over. Bailey was quick to shake out of that dream-land.
"What was that for!?" She repeated. Rataxes turned to her. "Oh, um... I'm sorry. I had this feeling to run and...." He stared at the dog with interest. She was a city dog, he could tell by the way she sat and her collar, but she was still beautiful. Her eyes, a clear blue, were mesmerizing to him. Her bushy, supple coat with a mix of orange, black, and white caught in the soft wind, and waved like a shimmering sea. He stood, completely taken by her.
"Well? Are you going to reply or not?" Snapped Bailey. She was particularly annoyed at his behavior. He was just staring at her. "Oh, um! I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." Replied Rataxes, his eyes gentle and watching. He stretched out, putting on a winning smile. "Wanna go for a walk around the park?" He asked. Bailey frowned, but thought about it. "I'd rather not now. My masters are calling." She replied, and hopped back to Peter gladly. He patted her side, and clipped her leash on. They walked outside of the park and left.
Bailey sighed, as she bounced along beside her owners, nuzzling their legs and panting. The park had been an amazing visit, until she met that other dog. "Who was that..." She frowned. He was definitely a street dog, but he surely didn't seem like one. He was more friendly, and much more easy-going. She knew the street mutts to be dangerous and quick to fight. This bothered her, the fact he hadn't attacked her. Bailey shook it out of her thoughts as she arrived home.
Their histories are joined, though their paths are not...
Part one: Ciel
"Madame! Madame! Do you like perfume?" A tall, dark-haired man stepped out in front of the woman and her dog. They had taken a short cut through the dark alleys so that their journey back to their flat would be brief and interrupted, but now the woman was wishing that they had stuck to the well-lit streets of the main city. This was the third time they had been stopped, and on the first, only Ciel's quickly timed nip had saved them being dragged into a dingy looking store by a man who had sounded to be of Italian descent. Drawing her faux fur coat closer to her shoulder, the woman pursed her rouge smeared lips into a pout, surveying the man with distaste. Beside her, Ciel offered a soft growl, muscles tensed to spring. "Sir, I do not have time to try your perfume. Please, another time...?" Her and her dog stepped forwards in unison, but the man barred their way.
"It will not take long, madame." The man's sleek voice held an undertone of someone who was not going to give up. The woman sighed, tilting her head slightly. Her corkscrew curls bounced around her shoulder, gleaming burnished gold in the dim orange light.
"I'm sorry, sir, but I have to hurry. Let me pass." The woman tightened her grip on Ciel's lead, digging her manicured nails into the worn leather for reassurance. She hated these men, that relied on intimidation and darkened alleys to get what the wanted. She hated them. The man smiled in the manner of someone who knew they had won, and he ran one hand through his slicked back hair. "Madame, please come with me. You buy one perfume, I let you pass. Deal?"
The woman let out a sigh of defeat, looking wistfully towards the end of the alley. People - men, women, children - had gone missing from places like this. Kidnapped. But surely not her? She was a well-known, well-respected woman. If she disappeared, people would search. She would be found. But, wait. What was she worrying for? She had Ciel to protect her.
Following the man towards his stall, the woman heard a peculiar noise. Metal rapping against stone. Glancing down, she let out a shriek. Ciel's collar lay on the damp stone behind her, the buckle undone. "My dog! Where is my dog?" She whirled around to face the man, who simply folded his arms across his chest with a shrug.
"People steal. Your dog, it is gone. Maybe a man take it for his child. Maybe a man take it to fight." He picked up a bottle, and wiped a finger absently over the dusty glass.
"To fight? You mean dog fighting?" The woman gasped in horror, pressing one hand to her head, "Ciel is a pedigree Great Dane! A pure bred! Her parents were winners of many dog shows! Sir, excuse me, I must find my Ciel."
He grasped her shoulder tightly, pulling her back. "No, you buy perfume. The dog is gone."
Shakily, with tear blurred eyes, the woman pointed at a small pink bottle, plucking a couple of coins from her purse. The man watched them into his hand greedily, pushing the murky bottle towards her and retreating back into the shop without a second glance.
The woman tucked the bottle into her coat, gazing around at the silent alley for a moment, the collar and lead trailing uselessly on the cobbled ground. She let go of them with a sigh, allowing the lead to fall at her feet. A tear traced down the side of her nose as she stared at it, then she raised her head, brushing away the tear. The woman listened for a moment, but it was no good. Ciel had disappeared. Stepping over the discarded items, she rushed out of the alley.
A few days later, the woman had another dog, an adorable sheepdog puppy that she tucked under her arm as she passed the alley. If she had looked down it, maybe she would have seen the dirty white truck with the terrified Great Dane tied up beside it, her legs shaking fearfully. But the woman didn't look, because she had a replacement.
Ciel was on her own now.
on the heels of war and wonder
there's a stormy world up there
you can't whisper above the thunder
but you can fly anywhere
