It's like the first snow
cold, only just enough for the snow to stick
The first snow is always the most beautiful.
Though it never stays long enough to enjoy.
It only leaves the ground wet.
So when the second snow comes,
its a bit colder, stays a bit longer
but melts away just the same as the first.
By the third snow, the ground is cold enough
for it to stay, hold it's wintery grip.

Icicles In The Rain
it is cold, winter is taking it's toll
on all things, young and old
the raindrops freeze
in this cruel winter breeze
these are icicles in the rain
memoirs of the pain
standing there, in that empty field
I feel myself start to heal
but I cannot let her go
even if she will never know
I hold onto the memories
they are so much stronger than me

a year ago today
I watched you fade away
into the nothingness
you are the thing that I miss
I never got to say goodbye
and for this, I cry
and cry
and cry
I almost wish I would die
I always wonder why
you had to go
but now, I think I know
my teadrops freezing, they leave behind
something new for me to find

Meh Explanation: I wrote this just now, but I wrote it about this horse that lived next door to me. I loved that horse. In the winter, I used to pick the icecles off of her coat, even though I just about froze my fingers off doing it. But she died, a day after my birthday, which is in the winter. I've never really let that go. Anyways, it wasn't a year ago today, it will have been three years in March. But I wanted to write a poem about her... and this buck gave me the opportunity. Also, this is a bit about the death of a dear friend of mine too... but mainly about the horse. /willshutupnow

((The top icy looking one ^^))

Listen here dear children, let me tell you a story of the winter frost buck!

On cold nights when cocoa is received,
you sit by the fire, relaxed and relieved.
A day out on the snow, having fun and throwing your breathe into the air,
is like the cold winter frost here and there.
Listen now dear children for you will hear,
the story that's coming near, never fear!
If your worthy and is always good, some say the winter frost buck
will always hear, and is always near awaiting you,
I say never fear, and never whoo,
for he is always awaiting you!
You shall peer out the window glass, foggy, and frost bitten too!
As you whip away the frost and ice you can always see that little cold face staring at you!
Eyes and ears as well as a nose,
this deer buck offers an icy rose!
You can see his breath hit the glass,as you do the same,
never be ashamed.
He comes on every Christmas night,
He's always under that little porch light!
So this is the story about a winter frost buck, sometimes he will come to even you,
and if your worthy enough he will bring that very rose under that little porch light,he's awaiting you!

((Done,even if I don't win,it was fun for me,and I hope it's fun for you,and remember every Christmas night,
that sweet buck is under that porch light!
Well,that's it,thanks for reading ^^Beautiful buck,Concept!))

Just had to write a poem XD Just because candy canes are like my favorite thing ever in the world and I always go out and buy the first box I can find when it's the season!

But forget those weird flavored ones. Traditional forever!

I really don't mind not winning XD *just loves poems*

Image

White for snow, and peace on earth, and all the things inscribed
With harmony and wonder, and the light in eyes that shine
Red for holly, joy, and fun, and everything between
The bells that sing a merry song
The stars above that gleam

If anything at all could bring these many things to one
I think a simple cheerful gift is second now to none
Be it hung upon a tree or flavoring a drink
The symbol of a merry time
The candy cane, I think!

Like candy canes, and sugar plum swirls.
Like peace and war i come in two forms,
like the crimson hue of holly and the verde of the holly leaves.
Christmas's come, christmas's pass.

Stockings hang like me, flattened out and hung in trees.
Ringing bells like christmas eve.
Holidays here and come, but I last really long.
Sweetness peaks me, and children squeeze me.
But I remain hanging upon the tree or hidden in a stocking.

Hark, they call me like heavenly voices from the forest!
Hark, I travel forth to meet them with good will and joy!
Stop the fighting, bring peace to world!

The lively peppermint flavor
is the regal gift of spice
The white is your purity
and the red your sacrifice

And so this cane reminds us
of just how much you care
and like your Christmas Gift to us
it's meant for all to share
for even a little candycane deer like me can see we all need peace.
Peace to all and to all a goodnight.

Does it have to be a poem? B/C this is super lame (and unpolished), but its what I thought of. XD If it breaks any rules just disqualify me, I had fun writing it.

There's nothing like the first snow of a winter season, and as the young James Potter stared out his window on that crisp December morning he couldn't help but feel his heart swell with childish glee. Sure, he was nearly 10yrs old and shouldn't be entertaining such nonsense, at least that's what father would say, but on such a perfect morning all James wanted to do was get out into the endless white. And so now, silently, stopping only to grab his coat, glasses, boots, and his gold and red scarf, he scurried out of his house.

Perfection in White!

James ran forward, jumped, twirled like a child and laughed, savoring the silence and the way his voice seemed to echo off the trees. It was still almost dark, that point just minutes before the begins to creep above the horizon and in the swirling flurries and mountains of snow-drift James could almost imagine he was in another world. He reached down and grabbed the edge of a stick peeking out from beneath the snow, waving his sword at imaginary opponents.

"I see you Salazar Slytherin!" he yelled to the emptiness, "You coward! You fiend! Why are you running from me? Don't you want to talk to your old friend Godric Gryffindor?" He spun, jabbed the stick out in front of him. "I can see the fear in your eyes Salazar! You may be gifted with your potions but I was always the better fighter!" He struck what he considered to be an intimidating stance. "Duel me you fiend! Stand up to me like a man, instead of the snake you are! Oh your running away are you? I knew you were afraid!" Suddenly he was running at full speed towards the woods, a familiar haunt of his. "You can't run forever!"

James laughed and made his way through the familiar trees, savoring the sting of the cold at the back of his throat, except he was no longer James at all, but the brave Godric Gryffindor, Knight, Hero and Founder. He ran with an endless exuberance, typical of a child his age, calling out occasionally to the trees. "Quit your hiding! Face me! I will find you Slytherin!"

On and on further and further until finally he stopped twirling the stick-sword in an elaborate gesture, imagining ropes shooting from its tip. "You've hurt too many people Slytherin, we were friends once but no more! You'll rot in Azkaban the rest of your days!"

He paused. That was a silly thread, Azkaban wouldn't have been around in those days would it have? Oh well. It didn't matter. He'd saved the day.

Now James sat down, out of breath. The sun was just beghing to make its way over the horizon, but it was still dark. Darker than he had remembered when he set out. He stood, scanned his surroundings. Everything looked so diffrent under the snow. All his old land marks were covered and he wasn't sure exactly how far he'd gone into the woods.

Finally he picked a direction, but with only a few minutes the surroundings looked unfamilar. He tried another, only to meet the same ending. Another and another, until eventually, what seemed like hours later, he was back in the place he had started. James shivered, sat on a log, and then began to cry.

Don't be a baby James! He thought to himself. Attempting to quiet himself, but failing. Mummy will be awake soon, they'll find me then. But at the same time he wasn't so sure.

Something rustled in the trees.

"Who is it?" He yelped, jumping now to a standing position and holding the useless stick-wand out in front of him, "Don't come any closer." He croaked, "I'm armed!"

He closed his eyes, preparing for the worst. But it never came.

Instead, a stag, a ghostly white stag stood eying him about twenty feet away. He breathed deeply. Quit worrying you fool! He stepped forward, waved his arms. "Go away! Shoo!"

But the stag just looked at him, unmoving even as he moved closer. James stared at it, in truth its pelt was too white to be a normal dear. Its hooves and antlers to luminous. He was reminded faintly of the North Star, guiding sailors for hundreds of years.

Then it turned and bolted the opposite direction.

"Wait!" He called, running after the animal. "Stop!" He wasn't sure why he was following the beast, but he knew he was having to keep a full sprint to keep up with its graceful bounds. "Your going too fast!" He cried, but at the same time whenever he thought he was going to lose site of the stag it stopped and seemed to wait for him. Staring with its luminous eyes untill he had caught up before bounding off again. Finally James collapsed in exaustion. This was pointless! He was probably just more lost now.

But looking up he could see his house beyond the trees. He was at the very edge of the forest. The voice of Maisy, the cook, echoed over the snow. "Jamie!" She called, "Jamie come in now, I have your breakfast!"

It seemed he had only been lost a few minutes after all.

He stood, and ran towards the house, "I'm right here Maisy!" He called, but then he stopped short and looked back towards the woods. "Hey, thanks..." He whispered towards where the deer was, but found he was looking at nothing. Not even tracks in the snow. In wonder he scanned the trees again. Had he imagined it all? Did the stag even exist?

"Jamie!"

"Coming Maisy!"

It was only years later that he would learn the true identity of the Stag. The white stag, or doe, depending on the situation, was a spirit, the spirit of the north star, just as he had somehow perceived. Its job was to lead children home, home to their loved ones.

What he never realised however, was the importance of this sighting. For years later his own son would walk deep into the woods, following the same spirit, albeit in a different form, to find the the sword of Gryffindor. His son then, would defeat Salazar Slytherin, or at leas his heir.

Though, perhaps, the white deer could help a certain follower of Slytherin find his own way home.

Note: This story probably fall under the catagory of fanfic.... I don't claim any right to the characters. XD

[From the perspective of the deer]

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
And their secret ways I keep.
Through the trees and driven snow
Past the hunter 'fore he draws his bow.
Under mistletoe I go,
Seeking shelter from the snow.
Icy lakes and streams I pass,
Through the frozen fields I dash.
'Till I find my hearth and home
Hidden from the cold and snow
Now that Ive found my loving Bast
I will no longer roam.

The Buck
There's a wonderful place, where few tend to go,
Where the shadows are still, and the cedars hang low.
The brook babbles lightly, as not to disturb,
and songs can be heard of each different bird.
The air smells so sweet, with the scent of the flowers,
Under sweeping grey clouds, that are whispering showers

Then, out of the clouds, comes a terrible cry,
An eagle, just soaring, way up in the sky.
Looking down intently with steely gray eyes,
It circles, and circles, and straight down it dives.
In seconds it rises above the tall trees,
Clutching something beneath him, and then he leaves.

Off on my right, I hear a slight noise,
A snap, then a crack, so I stand, still and poised.
It stops, it starts, then it's silent again,
So I stand there and wait, as it sprinkles with rain.
It must be a squirrel, playing under that tree,
Yeah, I'll bet that's what it was that startled me.

Then out of the brush, straight ahead this time,
walks a beautiful buck, with one long drop-tine.
He looks up my way and stops dead in his tracks,
Lifts his wintery head, licks his lips with two smacks,
Utters one low, loud snort and wrinkles his nose,
Then he's off like a shot, so much for the pose.

In a few short weeks, I'll be back for the harvest,
I hope he's still here, because he seems like the largest.
I've seen a few bucks up till now you see,
But nothing compared to the one by that tree.
