I am looking to adopt...

Image

Kennel number: F54

Why do you want this animal:
Every time I hear Smilis have been donated, I head straight for the Smili thread to see them. At first, I couldn't see this girl, the one I'd name Amaterasu, because my computer would only show the other two. I wasn't particularly hooked on either F55 or F56, and therefore left. However, once I got to this thread to look for their numbers so I could read the forms, I saw another Smili, Amaterasu. Her colours are beautiful, soft fawn colours coupled with white and soft blue.
She truly looks like a goddess.

What will you do for it?:
If I were to be lucky enough to win Amaterasu, first of all I would squee loudly and write hysterical text messages to my friends, and then I would sit down on my sofa and draw. Smilis are wonderful art muses for me, you should see the folder full of drawings I have of Reneci. [A purple Casmera Smili I won... I think it was nigh on exactly a year ago now, because I went on holiday and when I came back I'd won her... So it's hopefully a case of déjà vu!]
Anyway, Amaterasu, along with Ren, would be my artist muse for drawing Smili, and hopefully help me become good enough to open a Smili-drawing art shop where Smili owners can order art! Naturally, this means I will be drawing her a lot. Also, I would use her in a story I'm writing where I would have her and Reneci as enemies, because they seem like they'd be good as opponents, like darkness and light... Not that I've decided which would be which yet. :)
_______________________________________________

Preferred nickname: Taiyoko
Name: 天照 (Amaterasu)
Pronunciation of name: A-ma-te-ra-su
Meaning behind name: 'shining over heaven/she who illuminates heaven'
Origin of name: Ancient Japanese name of the sun goddess and ruler of the heavens.

'And as the sun rose, so was she brought into this world, bathed in it's golden rays like the goddess herself walked amongst us. Amaterasu.'
______________________________________________
Species: Smili
Subspecies: Common
Place of birth: Daisetsuzan National Park, Hokkaido, Japan

'North of the Sunrise, yet shines just as bright. Amaterasu.'
--------------------------------------------------------------
Personality:
Amaterasu has always been almost worshipped by the Smili of her birth tribe, but that doesn't mean she likes it. In fact, this has just led to her bizarre mix of hatred towards other Smili and a desire to mystify. At first, she often appeared on the outskirts of small villages, just standing and watching. Waiting to be noticed, but vanishing before they did.

Then it got dangerous. Amaterasu realised the best way to satisfy both her main emotions was to live alone, preying on the Smili of other tribes....

She's often been described as....

Sociopathic
“Killing other Smili is wrong? Is it? Surely no restrictions like that apply to me? I'm not part of their society anyway... Don't you see? It's my way of showing them what I have become. A true goddess! Easily better than my namesake! Besides, it's not like I particularly care about my species anyway...”

Having an inferiority complex
“Always… They fawn over me like a blessed statue, then leave to get on with their lives. I see cubs play fighting nearby, but no-one dares fight me, Amaterasu, for fear of damaging their luck. Am I so much lower than them that all I’m worthy of is to be fawned over all day? I will show them what I’m capable of. They call me Choko, Amako, Taiyoko to my face, Child of the Dawn, of Heaven, of the Sun, but I hear them whisper behind my back. They call me Amaterasu. I will make them fear me."

Often feeling a strong desire to live up to her name
"Sun goddess, heaven goddess, pah! They worship her for what reason? They expect so much from me, the chosen of a goddess, but I deliver little. I see their frowns. Why has our good fortune deserted us? written clear across their faces. It must be something wrong with Amako. No longer will I be the mere Child of Heaven, I shall become Amaterasu. They will fear me, as much as they adore and worship her.”

Easily enraged
“It doesn’t take much to annoy me. At least, not any more. There was a time when I was the shyest cub in the tribe, but now, after 5 years of living a lie, of no-one ever telling me anything; if you try to stop me, I will kill you. In fact, get in my way at all and you will never see tomorrow.”

Deceitful
“Yeah, so I like to manipulate people. Is that such a problem? None of them live long enough to complain anyway. I lie to people to survive, so much I can hardly tell the lies from the truth anymore. I like it like that.”

Likes:

The Sun

“What, so you thought that just because I was fawned over as the Child of the Sun, I don’t like it anymore? That would make sense, but I still take comfort in the warmth and brightness of it. It’s my symbol. My personal calling card; I only ever hunt on sunny days, and never in the shadows. I’m best hidden in light.”

Isolation
“Alone is silent. No people constantly talking to you like they’re afraid you’ll break, just quiet. It’s peaceful…Just me, a skilled hunter, fully equipped for battle, and the forest, MY domain. All of it is mine.”

Proving a point
"They said I was the child of the sun, I told them I was the sun. Now I'm determined to prove them wrong; to show them my full, deadly, potential."

Dislikes:

Other Smili
"Fawning, stupid weaklings. Oh-so-dependant on their precious society. Liars, the lot of them.
No matter. I no longer need them. They will fear me. They will die, for making my life a misery, for hiding the truth, for being so pitifully weak. They shall fall."

Myths and Legends (Not related to her)
“Never again will I be compared to a goddess. I am one now. They can worship whatever all they want; it won’t do them any good.”

Rain
"Rain clouds hide my symbol, Amaterasu's Sun, the warmth and brightness I rely on to give me drive. A day without sun in the sky is a day wasted, not hunting, not fighting, just sleeping. It bores me."

‘The sun goddess? She was born with the sun. The heaven goddess? She sends many there. Amaterasu.’
_____________________________________________

History/Background:

As the sun rose fo the first time that year, shining brightly over the forests of Daisetsuzan National Park, so a Smili cub was born. The first and only cub of the spring.

It had been a harsh winter, prey had been scarce and the little the hunters of the tribe could find, while enough to keep the tribe alive, was not enough to sustain cubs. Many females had decided to miss the mating season altogether, preferring to hunt with the rest, and the few that hadn't did not survive long.
Only one pregnant female had lasted the winter, and, ironically, her name was Yuki (Snow). She was not particularly well known in the tribe; barely anyone noticed her until the cub was born.

When the cub, a female, was born, everyone praised the gods, believing the cub to be a child of the heavens.
Yuki, not being a particularly bright Smili, named her Yukiko, child of Yuki, and the snow.

However, not many called Yukiko by her given name, preferring Choko, Amako, Taiyoko. She seemed to like Taiyoko.

Eventually, the leader of the tribe grew jealous of the cub's attention. He arranged for her to be taken from Yuki and raised by the tribe's Elder, Haru (Sky), who was secretly a friend of Yuki.

3 years on: Amaterasu = 3 years old

"Haru-sensei?"

The Elder turned his kind grey eyes on the cub sitting amongst the rocks of an old human shrine to the sun goddess. She looked so at home there that it wasn't difficult to see where she'd gotten the name Amaterasu from.
"Yes, Amaterasu-hime?" He enquired calmly.
The cub frowned, lashing her short, fluffy tail against the floor of the shrine.
"Please refrain from calling me that, Haru-sensei." She said in a remarkably mature voice.
He dipped his head in a gesture of apology.
"I am sorry, Taiyoko-sama. What did you want from me?"
Taiyoko rolled her eyes at the use of 'sama'.
"Please, drop the honorifics. I wanted to know about the rumours going around. About the Smili who was killed."
Haru froze for a second, but quickly regzined his composure.
"What rumours?"
"You know, the female. They say she went insane; blamed the leader for stealing her cub and tried to attack him, but was killed by the warriors.. I can't remember her name.."

The Elder shut his eyes, sighing deeply.
"Yuki..."

1 year on: Amaterasu = 4 years old

Taiyoko opened her sky blue eyes, frowning at the sound of low voices. It was the middle of the night, what was going on?

She uncurle, stretching, and padded softly towards the sounds, concealed by the many lumps of fallen rock that decorated the floor of the old shrine she called home. Peering around the rocks, the young Smili watched as Haru argued with a male Smili she recognised as the leader.
"Konbanwa, Kenichi-san." Haru greeted, inclining his head. "What is it you seek here?"
Kenichi, a tall, jet black male, snorted disrespectfully.
"You know why I'm here, Elder. Where is the girl-cub?"
"Kenichi-san, it is the middle of the night. Taiyoko-sama is sleeping." Haru replied.
"Then awaken her." Kenichi growed threateningly.
"Kenichi-san. That is not possible. She needs her rest." His response was firm.
"This is your last warning, Elder. Get out of our way."
"I will not, Kenichi."

Taiyoko gasped quietly, her baby-blue eyes wide as she watched the proceedings unfold.
A light coloured male led Haru from the shrine, the other warriors fanning out to search for something. Her, Taiyoko realised.

"...Haru!"
The young Smili could think of nothing else to do as her guardian was led away by strangers.
"Haru! Let him go, you... you idiots!"
Kenichi grinned, looking up, straight at Taiyoko.
"Amaterasu, I presume." His green eyes narrowed. "You, are to come with us."

Startled as the warriors approached, Taiyoko froze against the wall.
"Get away! Leave me alone!" She clawed, bit and screamed as a dark brown female picked her up in her mouth.
"Release me at once! Do you know who I am!?"
Kenichi smiled again.
"Oh no, my dear Amaterasu, the question is; do you?"

5 years later: Amaterasu = 9 years old

"My name is Amaterasu. I am the daughter of the leader of a tribe of Smili who live in the forests of Daisetsuzan National Park, Hokkaido. My father's name is Kenichi. He has an annoying habit of calling me Amaterasuko. I had a younger half-sister, Seclai, but she was kidnapped and killed by an insane Smili named Casmi. Casmi had been trying to get me, but mistakenly took Seclai. I don't know how I feel about that.

I am the daughter of the heaven goddess and my namesake, Amaterasu.
I have a stepmother called Sereca, and she's a healer..."

"Well done, Amaterasuko."
Kenichi's voice. I scowled.
"Why do I have to recite this, father? I'm not going to forget who I am."
He just gave me a cryptic look, ignoring the question entirely.
"You may leave. I have an important visitor."

That got my attention. Kenichi had been having important visitors a lot recently.
I silently vowed to find a way to listen in as I bowed my head.
"Of course, Keni-Otou-san."

As soon as I was out of his sight I leapt up, into the trees, and ran along the branches, back towards the Meeting Clearing. I frowned at the volume, they were talking very quietly, and shuffled closer, hoping my brown pelt would provide slight camoflage.

"How.....Taiyoko?"
"Don't...Ki...omi....She's.....renamed....believes...no problems....."

What? What were they talking about? Who was Taiyoko?

"...memories....the mother, Yuki?....Haru?"

Yuki? The female killed 5 years back? Her cub? And who was Haru?

"None...all."

Suddenly, the stranger raised their voice.
"So she's had no trouble adapting?"

Kenichi sounded pleased with himself as he replied.
"I can safely say that Amaterasu has completely forgotten about any and every event, or person, before we kidnapped her."

Huh? They... kidnapped me?

"And the Elder?"

Kenichi snorted, and I got a weird feeling of deja vu.
"Haru? Dead. Killed him the night we took him, to prevent questions. I kept her away from anything that would jog her memory."

I stifled a gasp, crawling backwards, away from the clearing, from my fath- no, Kenichi. Filled with rage, I leapt into the clearing.

"Amaterasuko?" Kenichi smiled. "Whatever's the matter?"

I stared at the stranger, none other than the dark brown female who'd stolen me 5 years ago.
"Amaterasu, this is Kiyomi. She's an old friend. An ex-warrior."

I'll kill them. I thought, mentally snarling.

"Amaterasuko?"
Kenichi's voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I snarled, staring between him and Kiyomi.
"What's the matter, Amaterasu?"

"My name..." I said slowly, in a low voice. "Is Taiyoko."

A look of horror spread itself across both Kenichi and Kiyomi's faces.

I smirked, stalking closer.

"It's good to see you remember it."

Other: Well, as much as it pains me to leave it there, this is as far as I can go. It's been really fun working on Taiyoko's backstory, but as my internet went insane a few days ago, I can't get the rest on here. The personality and story have taken hours for me to try and write up using my kindle's weird keypad, and has killed my shoulder, so this'll have to do! :D

Figured she could use a new revamp and I wanted to try and make her look more like the original donation. Added a few areas of darker grey, since no animal's fur is just solid grey and I figured it might make her a little more interesting.
Hope she finds a home, I really like this character. ^^

Why must you tempt meh XD

I am looking to adopt...
Picture:
Image
Kennel number: F56

Name: Solace
(Why: I wanted to give him something that had to do with the sun because of his blazing eyes. Though I couldn't really find anything that fit. I decided on Solace [which means "comfort or consolation in a time of distress or sadness"] because it has the word sol in it, which is a root word in most languages for sun and his role in the story mainly is to provide comfort and consolation, I thought it fit pretty well. c: I like how it sounds too. xP)

Breed: Common Smili

Why do you want this animal and what will you do for it?:
Ever since I discovered the species, I have always wanted a smili. The first two I saw at Tough as Nails didn't really appeal to me, because I had no inspiration for them. Unfortunately, after those few, the species kind of died out and I had missed my chance to get one. I didn't think they would come back, but all of the sudden, Spotty donated these three lovely smilis. The other two were extremely appealing, having ice blue eyes and a stunning orange coat, but for some reason, I could only ever imagine this one fitting into the story I had in mind for my smili. The blazing, fiery eyes completely made the fawn-like design stand out. This smili looks gentle, yet able to stand up for itself. I love the natural colors and numerous spots. I have to admit my favorite part are his eyes. This smili just stole my heart and filled my mind with inspiration. I hope to write him a touching story of growing friendship. I'll also order art of him and give him a home in my character thread. He might even gain a mate one day, but that's for later! He'll definitely be cherished. <3

Personality:

Solace, like most smilis, is not vocal. He's quiet and enjoys the quiet. He's rather serious and likes to feel secure. He can become a bit paranoid and skittish at times when the environment seems to change or there's a severe shift in the weather. At the same time, he's protective and loyal. He'll do anything he can to keep a loved one, or loved object safe. Therefore, he's wary of dark-looking strangers which cause his spine to crawl with bad feelings. He typically has a good sense of whether someone is good or bad, it is simply a primal instinct to him. He's very conscientious of others' feelings and can easily perceive them through their body language alone. He is careful not to hurt anyone's feelings because it makes he himself feel very guilty. He also takes things to heart and can't tolerate criticism because he tries his best to be likable. Because he's a smili he can't help but feel aggressive towards small prey or other predators. He normally tries to keep his feelings to himself, which can cause pent-up frustration, but this is because he doesn't like to be a burden to others. He likes to make friends, but sometimes he has trouble with it because he's wary and doesn't put his full trust into others easily. At the same time, he's an excellent friend because of his deep awareness of feelings and loyalty to them. He's passive and problems stress him out. He always thinks carefully before he acts, unless it's a life or death situation. He's understanding and can forgive others for being evil towards him unless they are relentless and truly dislike him. He rarely gets angry, usually more sad or upset or frustrated. It's hard for him to feel anger, unless it's for the good of protecting something. Solace generally tries to be an optimist and reassures others. He's a follower, finding it hard to lead and control others. Like a lot of smilis he's lazy and doesn't enjoy running around a lot. He tries to be precise and quick when doing things. He doesn't mind having nothing to do, because he can just lounge around and think about life to occupy himself. Solace is awkward and unsure around females. Though if he gets to know them well, he's your typical gentlemanly type who knows how to treat a lady right and though he can stutter his a bit, he wants a committed relationship that will last a long time. He doesn't like flaky people and likes to make plans rather than being spontaneous and out there. In general, he's a calm and kind smili, who is afraid of the unknown and is rather sensitive.

Likes:

Leaves: He loves how they look and smell. He likes to play with them in the autumn too.
Soft Things: He loves to curl up in a bed of moss or anything soft, they make him very happy.
Friends: He enjoys spending time with those that he's close to and making great memories.
The Sun: He loves to see it rise, see it set and how it gives the earth warmth and gives it light.
Naps: He loves to just laze around and nap and likes the small energy boost they provide him.
Music: Once he was introduced to it, he just couldn't help but love it.
Horses: He doesn't know why but he finds them interesting and gentle creatures.
Candles: He enjoys the little contained dancing flame that you can take around with you. He also loves the smells they produce.
Gems: He finds them rare and mysterious and likes to look for them. The excitement of discovering them thrills him.
Large Bones: He loves something to gnaw on and treasure.

Dislikes:

Strange Environments: New places scare him, because he doesn't know how to react or where to go.
Storms: They change the environment a lot and make him feel rather paranoid.
Sketchy People: When he gets a bad feeling about someone he avoids them at all costs, because they scare him.
Deep Water: He isn't a strong swimmer, so he's afraid of drowning in it.
Running: He's not athletic, so running simply tires him out and makes him really sore.
Sweating: He doesn't like his fur all sticky and smelly and damp.
Mice: He doesn't like the taste of them and thinks they're too small of prey for a meal. Plus he thinks they're quite annoying.
Being Disliked: He's a people-pleaser and can't stand to have others hate him.
Feeling Uncomfortable: Of course no one really does, but he has to feel comfortable in order to sleep, especially to fall asleep. He's known to suffer from insomnia if he's feeling bad.
Initial Change of Seasons: He doesn't like all of the sudden changes to the environment, but he enjoys ever season individually.

History/Background:

Solace walked warily through the stiff grass, ears low and senses alert. This was rather strange territory to him, the grass was yellow and multicolored leaves covered the ground. Though he was thoroughly enjoying the scent of the leaves and crunching through them, he was rather nervous in this new territory. Unfortunately prey was scarce in the mountains and he had to venture downwards in order to fill his empty belly. He was quite a ways away from his alpine home at this point and he was rather unsure of where he exactly was. The evergreens had faded away into deciduous trees that were losing their leaves and there was no longer snow underneath his paws. It was still chilly down here, since clouds blocked out the sun on this breezy autumn day, so he still felt comfortable in his thick coat. Solace sniffed at the air, trying to detect any sign of prey. Unfortunately he couldn't smell any, so he pressed on, in search of some sort of energy.

Soon, Solace reached a small forest, there was bound to be prey here! Focusing his sharp ears, straining them to hear a sound. Luckily, he heard one. Heart pounding excitedly, Solace clambered up into a tree. It was missing a lot of its leaves, but his dark pelt allowed him to blend in pretty well. Crouching in one of its broad branches, Solace leaned forward to scan the ground with his fiery eyes. As he leaned, his eye got poked by a stray twig. Solace rumbled in discomfort and squeezed that eye shut. He'd worry about it later, because his sensitive ears picked up the sound of rustling. With only one eye, Solace's vision wasn't the best, but he was sure he could pick up the sight of prey. Soon, a figure came into view. It smelled like a mammal and looked rather large. Maybe a deer? He didn't really care what it was at this point, because his belly felt like it was full of knives scraping at his insides. He was so hollow and hungry...

The figure came closer. Solace tensed his muscles. Soon, it was underneath of him. He leaped from the branch and dropped down on his prey with a growl of accomplishment.

"WAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" This scream of terror caused Solace to flinch and remove his paw from his prey's throat. His vision was clearing slowly. "Oh. My. God. Please don't eat me, tiger... lion... whatever you are!" Solace couldn't recall any other prey that he'd captured making sounds such as these. Squinting, Solace realized that this was a... human?! With a snarl of surprise, Solace leaped back, his fur fluffing out and tail raised high.

The human scrambled to its feet, holding its hands out defensively. From what his mother had taught him about humans, this one seemed male because of its shorter hair and flat chest, as well as a deep voice. The human was quivering in terror, its medium-length brown hair covering half of its eyes. It wore blue jeans and had a vest over its plaid long-sleeved shirt. He had no idea that there was a human civilization near his mountain, but this was evidence that there was, because this human smelled like multiple humans.

"I-I don't know what you are... B-But... Thanks for letting me go..." the human stuttered incomprehensible words to Solace, who backed up a few steps at its vocalizations. "I won't h-hurt you... if-if you don't hurt m-m-me... Do we have a d-deal?" the human was also backing away. Perhaps they had made an agreement not to harm each other? That's what Solace was thinking at this point.

"O-Okay... I'm leaving..." the human said something else, gave Solace one last look and ran off. Solace sighed in relief and sat down. He was puzzled. This human wasn't ferocious and muscular as he had heard in the stories. It was rather scrawny and timid in his opinion. Snorting a bit, Solace pushed himself to his paws once again, with only one backward glance, Solace walked back off towards the mountains, hoping to find some prey on the way back.

---

For whatever strange reason that compelled Solace to return to the forest the next day, Solace will never understand. He hadn't had much luck hunting yesterday, only managing to catch a small mole to eat. He was still practically starving, and this place didn't really treat him well, but for some reason... he wanted to see the human again.

With his ears low, Solace lurked from tree to tree, his blazing eyes scanning the new terrain each time he stalked around another tree. This time he peered out, he saw a human boy sitting against a tree with a bag next to him. It was the human he saw yesterday by the smell of it. It was colder than yesterday as winter crept in, so he could see the boy's misty breath as he breathed. He was wrapped in a scarf and similar clothes as yesterday.

Solace slowly came out from behind the tree, all senses on high alert. The boy perked up.

"Oh! You're here again. I read about you in the library... You're a smili... aren't you?" Of course Solace couldn't understand, but he smelled something tasty in that bag next to the boy.

"You look hungry." the boy smiled sympathetically. He rustled in his bag and brought out a hunk of raw meat. Solace felt his mouth flood with saliva at the sight of the delicious food. "Here..." The boy flung the meat towards Solace. Ravenously, Solace chomped it down, his belly filling and energy flooding through him. After he finished, Solace felt rejuvenated. Did this human care for him? He was just sitting there and staring... With a slight rumble, Solace pricked his ears and took a step towards the human. He wanted more meat and he wondered about the human. Though he didn't trust it, it seemed nice...

The boy fidgeted a bit. "I'm Roth... Of course I don't expect you to tell me your name... haha..." Solace came towards the boy more as it talked. Its tone was friendly.

"A-Are you still hungry or something?" The boy's eyes widened and Solace came forward more. The boy dug in his bag once again and brought out more meat. This time he held it in his hand.

"Come get it." the boy smirked. Solace narrowed his eyes at it. Was it messing with him. Leaning forward, Solace quickly grabbed it from the boy's hand and chomped it down. His belly was now full and he was pretty happy.

"Rrrrmmrrr..." Solace rumbled to the human before disappearing into the forest once again, towards home.

---

The very next day, Solace returned to the same spot once again. This human offered him food in hard times and for that he was grateful. Perhaps humans weren't terrible as other smilis had made them out to be. Just because this human was a stranger, didn't mean it was dangerous.

Looking out from behind one of the large trees, he saw the same boy standing and looking into the forest with another bag. Solace's heart fluttered excitedly, much to his confusion. Was he actually happy to see this human?

The boy turned, his eyes widening as he caught sight of Solace.

"Oh! You're here again!" Quickly, the boy shoved his hand into the bag and brought out a hunk of meat. He smiled slyly and crouched down, holding the meat out once again. Solace assumed he would have to eat it from his hands again. He crept forward, muzzle extended. He gently grabbed the meat and munched it down, watching the boy with curious eyes. After he was done, he stepped towards the human. The boy shied away a bit, but didn't flee. Solace sniffed at the boy. He didn't smell evil or look like it.

"Rmmmrrrr." Solace rumbled. The boy looked at him happily.

"You trust me?" Solace simply eyed the boy. The boy called Roth extended his hand and laid it on Solace's forehead.
Solace let him.

---Months Later---

It was near the end of winter, and Solace enjoyed travelling down from his mountain to see his human in this weather. The snow covered the ground in a cold, fluffy blanket. This human had helped him through the bad hunting season and Solace felt better than ever. He spent every day with the human, getting to know him and the human traits. This human was patient, awkward, clumsy and kind. His name was Roth, Solace was slowly learning human language. He could understand it quite well now, but didn't know how to make the sounds the humans did. This human, Roth, had brought him a great experience, and he never wanted to leave this human.

Solace pounced through the snow, his fur muffling out any cold his skin would feel. He didn't really mind running a bit in the nice weather. Solace chirped his familiar greeting and he heard Roth shout back. "Heeeeyyy! Smili friend!" But the call was interrupted by a fit of coughing. Concerned, the smili hurried to greet his human. It was pale and shaky, but that familiar smile still held.

"Rmmrmmrmr..." Solace vocalized to his human.

"Eh..." Roth leaned back against a tree. "I'm okay, just a little ill." Solace heard a new word that he hadn't heard before at the end of Roth's sentence. He cocked his head to the side to portray his confusion. "It's okay." Roth said reassuringly, putting his cold hand on Solace's head. They stood there, smili and human, complete trust radiating between them. Roth lifted his hand, stumbling over to another tree. Solace watched worriedly. Roth smacked his hand against the tree and let out a huge coughing fit. Solace's heart twisted in sadness and worry as he watched.

Suddenly, Solace heard a crack, like the breaking of wood. His heart began to beat rapidly as he realized that it was the cracking of wood. The tree Roth was leaning against was breaking, the inside must be rotten. Letting out a vocalization of distress, Solace leaped forward, headbutting Roth out of the way.

Crrrrash.

"SMILI, NO!" was the last thing Solace heard, pain throbbing throughout his body, before things went black.

---

Solace awoke, feeling something tied around himself and rather warm. He looked around to see a fire and a strange environment. Immediately, his stomach lurched, he had no idea where he was.

"You're cough awake, friend." Solace looked up to see Roth sitting by him a blanket wrapped tightly around the now fragile looking boy. "We're hiding in my backyard... You scared me... But thank you for saving me." Roth leaned down and wrapped his arms around the smili's neck. He was shivering heavily, but he held tight. "You've helped me through so much... I-I thought I was going to lose you..." Solace felt tears through his fur.

"Mrrrr..." Solace said, nuzzling the boy. He knew he was wrapped in bandages in a strange place, but he still felt safe with Roth.

A bond you could never break.
Smili and boy.

---Love is in the Air---

Solace plodded down from the mountain, his mouth open slightly to allow himself to pant. It was a lot warmer now that spring had melted the wonderful winter. It was pretty, Solace admitted to himself, the bright new grass and flora. The birds sang happily while the crickets chirped and cicadas hummed. The trees were covered in small flowers and buds. It was truly wonderful, just not really to Solace's liking.

He wound his way through the familiar forest which was only a mile from the small town where his boy lived. It was a rural town, pretty far away from any city-like civilization. They mostly farmed and kept animals, shipping their goods out to fund the town. It had a school and a library, but aside from that it was pretty small. It had a mayor and a town square, it was like the olden days. Solace had been there a few times with Roth, cloaked by the night and that day he was injured. Both Roth and Solace had recovered from their sickness and injury. It was an accident that brought them closer together, nothing could tear them apart now.

Solace slunk past the familiar tree he used to hide from Roth behind and perked his ears as he saw Roth standing around.

"Mrrrah." Solace said, catching Roth's attention.

"Hey, boy!" Roth laughed, dashing up to Solace to wrap his furry body in a hug. Solace allowed himself to purr a greeting, his tail waving happily as they parted. He took in the sight of his human. It seemed different somehow. Dreamy and out there.

"Rrrrmrr?" Solace asked, they had come to understand each other and they were able to communicate quite well.

"What?" Roth laughed, his cheeks growing a soft blush.

"Rrmrah." Solace understood. Was this love? Solace stepped forward and nudged Roth playfully.

"What? Haha! What..." Roth trailed off, covering his mouth, clearly embarrassed, with his hand. "You can tell can't you?" Solace grinned a bit, flicking his tail. "Ahaha, okay, smili friend, sit down with me." Roth slid to the ground, patting the ground next to him. Solace walked to the spot and sat down, eyeing his human with interest. "I like this girl in town... I have for a while, but now... I don't know, boy, I just can't... get her out of my head..." Roth sighed heavily, burying his face into his hands.

"Rmur." Solace said, patting Roth's head lightly with his tail.

"I can't get her. I'm so much of a nerd. I just spend my time in the library, and I'm clumsy and just... Ugh!" Roth threw his hands up in defeat. "Plus she probably thinks I'm crazy since I spend a lot of my time in the forest with you. Of course, I love spending my time with you, but..." Roth sighed again, gazing into the distance. Solace sensed his distress. He lay down and put his large head in his human's lap. Roth stroked Solace's mane idly as he thought.

"What is true love anyway? Not between a boy and a girl, but between a boy and his best friend..." Roth declared, clutching onto Solace. Solace felt a wave of surprise wash over him at his human's words, his ears pricking. Slowly, the surprise melted into a cozy warmth that spread throughout his entire body. Solace purred. His human, he loved.

Other: Whoever wins him can have my art if they want. ^^
Also, his stories would probably continue in this style when I get the muse. :3 Just random little blurbs of adventure between Roth and Solace.

Why do you want this character?
Ohh, my. You could call it "love at first sight." I was instantly attracted to Chesmu's design, as it has similarities to that of a fawn. I have a bit of an affinity with deer, so I couldn't help but be interested. ;] His pattern & colors are simple & earthy to my taste, but his facial markings are still bold as they should be on a Smili. I LOVE Smilis, I adore them, really. <3 Spotty's created species thread was the first I ever came upon on C.S. & I really haven't wavered, with the exception of Nex's Tracker Dogs. :3 Smilis are so unique & are able to host such a broad range of imagination & potential stories. . . Chesmu's story came easily to me, for which I am thankful! I was emboldened to apply for him as the plot was clearer & I don't plan on adopting much after this. So, Chesmu is kind of like my "last hurrah" for adoptions for awhile. His personality presented itself earlier too, & ever since then "Chessy" has drawn closer to my heart. . .

What will you do for him?
I will apply for him with the most complete form that I have ever submitted. In fact, if I did not honor that statement, & "Work in Progress" is still present at the bottom of my form, do not bother judging it. I want Chesmu to have the best I can offer him or nothing from me, for that would mean--to me--that I am not the best choice to provide what he deserves.

I will adore & cherish him. <3 & in so doing, he would take his place at the top of my character thread, just below my fursona, holding a place of high esteem. There, however, he would not gather dust, but have a comfortable home. I hope to use all the spare & unwanted C.S. pets I have to get fabulous art of Chesmu. But, what I would really like to do is to pair him up with another Smili. Yet, I'm not sure how, exactly, that will work with him living in the 1600s. . . :c He was born to love, though. & I fully intend to do what I can to make that work out. <'3 I'd love, love, love to role play with Chesmu, as well. He has such an intriguing personality to me, which would make RPing a lot of fun. I may continue with his history & chronicle it also. c:

Note
Please listen to In The Moment -- The Journey Begins on NativeRadio whilst you are reading my form. c: It's what I listened to while writing it. ^^; You'll find it on the front page.

Name
Chesmu

Name Origin & Meaning
Chesmu is from an unidentified Native American tongue & is thought to mean, "gritty." To expound on that thought a little more, the definition of grit is "obstinate courage." Chesmu's adoptive mother chose his name because of the young cub's unrelenting courage in the face of peril.

Native American names are often mistranslated, or names thought to be of Native American origin may be found to not be of the languages at all. I would have preferred to find a suiting name from the Potawatomi dialect, but my searching through the internet for a trustworthy source amounted to nil. & so, this handsome Smili was dubbed, "Chesmu."

Gender
Male

Age
Seven Years ; 84 Moons

Species
Common Smili ; created & (c) by Spotty

Date of Birth
Early 1600's ; in the area of 1615

Place of Birth
The Northwest Portion of the Lower Penninsula of Michigan ; roamed around the area of Michilimackinac.

Personality
As a cub, Chesmu was an exuberant handful, curious of everything. His playful spirit made the world around him a place of happiness, a home. From his traumatic experiences at such a young, tender age, he has grown to be more serious, acting with caution. He is quiet & thoughtful on the exterior, but upon closer inspection there lurks a contained passion. This is the axis of Chesmu's being, his deepest strength & his darkest weakness. Within his heart wells a great & mighty love for Niabi, his sister; compassion for those who have lost their loved ones; & obstinate courage & hope for the future. Yet, sometimes hidden by the seemingly constant, solid state of Chesmu's heart is a terrible anger & awaiting chance for vengeance. Though he has kept this portion of his soul secret & disguised, when it breaks out, it will be fearsome.

Unbeknownst to Chesmu, fear controls much of his choice in his actions. He fiercely protects Niabi in fear of losing his beloved sister, the last that remains of his family. He fears himself & the hatred for the man that killed his mother, & yet, he fears the chance lost for retribution. It scares him to think that the evil may overcome the good within him.

The most important purpose to Chesmu is to seek the meaning of his life, to find his purpose, & then to fulfill it. He doesn't want to be seen as anyone but uniquely himself. He strives to remain authentic in order to better help himself & others grow to become the best they can be. His personality type is the Idealist Healer. In so being, Chesmu's thoughts are more directed to how things could be--thinking towards the future possibilities, rather than limiting himself to only what can be done now; however, the downfall to this way of viewing the world is that he is not as likely to be proactive or getting things accomplished. Chesmu could use to remember often that he also needs to make the most of the time he's given, since his situation could change in a heartbeat.

Simply, he's a dreamer & dislikes negativity. He finds it difficult not to look at a situation in a positive light, which could be found both annoying or helpful, depending on the individual.

Likes
Niabi ; Deep is Chesmu's love & adoration for his adopted sister. They faced their most sorrowful times together & have an inseparable bond that draws them past the dramatic difference of species. Niabi is a White-tailed doe.
Moss ; Chesmu chose the soft cushions of moss to line his den with & sometimes he enjoys just standing on a clump of it kneading his claws into the plush foliage.
The break of dawn & the fall of dusk ; These are the times of day in which Chesmu is most active, being that he became accustomed to the crepuscular habits of deer & he finds them to hold the most beautiful, peaceful moments.
Simplicity ; In his mind, Chesmu often thinks of romantic, idealistic ideas of pure, simple ways of life. He strives for such, but rarely does he meet even glimpses of what he desires.
Peace ; Along with simplicity, Chesmu longs for a peaceful life in some ways where he wouldn't have lost his mother to a trophy hunter. He realizes, though, that had his past not happened as it did, he would not be who he is today & he most certainly would never have encountered Niabi--he could never dream of parting from her now. Peace between animals & the two-legged is an area of special interest to Chesmu, though he admits that is may be idealistic endeavor.
Autumn ; The most brilliant season of the year--beautiful beyond compare, but also with an air of mystery & uncertainty with winter not far behind. Chesmu loves the slight chill, the sunshine gazing down through the leaves afire, & the crisp zephyrs.
The excitement & danger of fierce weather ; To try to out run the storm, yet just in time find shelter is a game that Chesmu plays with himself, &, occasionally, Niabi. The power & majesty with which a lightning storm displays accompanied by buckets of rain is mesmerizing to him. He doesn't mind running through the rain during downpours. c:
The sweet scents of the forest ; Woody, rustic, fresh. Every area of the territory in which Chesmu wanders with Niabi smells different, especially as the seasons change. Inhabiting the forest is a story woven by scent.
Wading in brooks & streams ; Not only a source of drinking water, but a lovely place to rest & think or to cool off in the hot summer months. The sound is cheerful & pleasant as well as the flora & fauna that cling to its body.
Listening to the sound of the two-legged's music ; Emotion & storytelling at its best, it's one of the things that Chesmu admires the humans for; it helps him tamper his anger towards them because of their stories of loss & love. They experience much of the same as the animals do, perhaps even to a greater extent because of their advancement compared to the animals.

Dislikes
Negativity ; Is there even a reason for this? Chesmu views a negative mindset as a hindrance, a debilitation best left alone.
Loss ; So much sorrow. . . often overloading with pain & another addition of change to deal with. Chesmu was under the impression for some years that
Violation of Values ; The set of moral rules that Chesmu follows are not to be tampered with. They are set like a brand in his heart of hearts & to just cast them aside is viewed as horrendous & impossible.

Backstory
[PROLOGUE ;.. Everything had seemed so ordinary, so unchangeable. But then. . . there are certain details of this memory that make it something everlastingly beautiful--unforgettable. Back then, I could not have guessed--especially being so young--that when I awoke in the morning the world, as I knew it, would never be the same. Even if we could know the future, we would not want to believe it in regards to our sorrows & loss. We would fail to look past the pain & suffering to the victories & the triumph. Our eyes would not count the days of joy, but those of sadness. If we try to avoid what we are destined for we will surely be self-destructive because no matter what we attempt in order to avert the trials in our future, they will still come. But, who can win without having the possibility to lose? Who can gain without the chance of loss? Who can have hope without endurance?

[CHAPTER ONE ;.. In the dark of the night, the woodland symphony began its concert of lullabies as the young creatures settled down in their beds. A soft & delicate wind blew gently passed the medallion leaves of the aspen, rocking the bows slightly. As it rose, as the conductor of the band, the crickets chirped harmoniously together, & diminutive tree frogs croaked out the percussion. A bright silver sliver of a waxing crescent brought a soft, dull glimmer to the ground, dappled by the foliage of trees. It was the most peaceful night of the summer, the forest creatures had all agreed. All was well.

____________________________________________________________________________

"Momma!"

The rough chirp-like call came from under a windfall of pine where a deep, tunneling den had been dug. A family of foxes once lived there & thanks to their cunning made multiple exits with a single entrance.

Other
Please feel free to read or judge, if so desired. I really, unfortunately, haven't had ample time to finish Chesmu's Backstory due to work & preparations to leave for college on the fifteenth. Best of luck to all those who applied for this handsome Smili! <33

A short summary of Chesmu's backstory is as follows ;.. At about eight weeks, when Smili cubs begin to venture outside the den & their coloring is becoming more settled, Chesmu's mother goes out to hunt & never returns. As a side note, Chesmu's father had left about a week ago. Chesmu was the only cub born to the pair, & having the support he needed from his mother, his father was free to go if he wanted. Chesmu's mother had been out hunting for several hours & being bored & curious, it didn't take long for him to wander away. During his wanderings, Chesmu stumbles--literally--on a White-tailed Deer fawn, who ends up becoming his "sister." The pair play around together since both their parents are out & about, but in their carelessness, are seen by a Potawatomi hunter. At least, Niabi, the fawn, is seen & she stands frozen in fear for a moment before dashing away, leaving Chesmu scrambling after her. The hunter catches only a glimpse of the Smili cub, which Chesmu does not know until many years later. The young man who glimpsed Chesmu was the son of the man who killed Chesmu's mother partially to protect his tribe [thinking that they were in danger] & partially to show his cunning & strength [a.k.a. killed for sport]. The odd pairing of young animals are parented by Niabi's birth mother, making her Chesmu's adoptive mother. The fawn & the Smili cub become inseparable & after their mother doe passes they continue to travel with each other. Eventually, Chesmu comes upon the boy who had seen him & the anger in his heart rages, wanting to take vengeance. . . I don't really want to give away the ending just yet. . . Will Chesmu wreak havoc on the human population in his territory or will amends be made?

I think music is about our internal life.
It's part of the way people touch each other.
That's very precious to me. And astronomy is,
in a sense, the very opposite thing. Instead of
looking inwards, you are looking out, to things
beyond our grasp.
