The snow crunched beneath his paws, his paw steps and swishing tail leaving a perfect trail behind him. The mix of the snow underneath him and the light hum of the wind added to how desolate leafbare felt, no prey scurrying around on the forest floor, no birds chirping in the trees, no leaves moving with the wind, it was all now a barren wasteland. It was terrifying yet peaceful at the same time. At a time like this where he couldn't sleep and needed to just walk it off, he loved the peace leafbare gave.

"Dewnose?" a sudden meow interrupted his daydreaming, turning to see Sunstar who clearly had been on a night time walk of their own. "Can't sleep either huh?" the leader purred with slight amusement. Dewnose rolled his eyes, padding up to sit beside his leader. "I get like this sometimes, just need to stretch my legs and breath some fresh air and I'll be sleeping like a kit in no time." Dewnose explained, curling his tail over his front paws.

"Makes sense." Sunstar said with a yawn, exhaustion weighed them down. "I have a brain that never stops, always thinking about something. Have to sit and think for a while and then I'll be able to fall asleep." the two sat in comfortable silence, understanding each others struggle. Staring out at the landscape before them, it felt magical with the snow glittering in the moonlight and their breaths creating smoke in the cold air.

"Thank you for joining the clan." Sunstar whispered earning a curt nod from Dewnose. No words needed to be exchanged anymore, the pair had a clear understanding of each other, their thoughts and their feelings. Pure appreciation of each others company.

the river seemed made of poured moonlight. as if the hands of the gods had squeezed the moon of its rich, brilliant essence and stirred it like a glaze into a sea of glass blacker than the sins of centuries past. and if she touched it, she could almost hear the song caught in the fray. a song of starlight clinging to life in an abyss whose sharp teeth devoured both song, soul and spirit. and within each note was a map—a starchart pointing her to treasure. (+1 ur myo for completing active task; +60 stardust)

“come take a look at this.” moonwatcher’s gentle touch grasped her shoulder, reeling in her wandering gaze. with a flourish, he gestured towards a fissure splitting ink-black rock. and there, where time and age rended stone from stone, the wingbeats of moths hummed. each flicker of a turning wing sprayed silvering dust onto a gold blossom. and a sweet fragrance lilted in the space between her, the first from a newly budded flower.

“everything blooms in its time, little luna.” he tucked the flower behind her ear and tapped her nose. “and with time, we will hear from the gods of old.” (+1 ragwort, +1 mint, +1fp bugs, +1fp bugs, +1fp bugs)

and perhaps they would. or perhaps they already did and she missed it. yet, none of it seemed to matter. for there was something else beyond the sea of sins and stars. a lithe beast whose presence parted light and shadow like a blade, its eyes like the cores of burning stars. (predator spotted!)

The clan was a little hectic, with two kits that no one expected. The clan was working well with the sudden change, at least - Hollowstar couldn't say she found herself minding two extra mouths to feed, especially as she grew increasingly excited for her own kits to arrive. With that on her mind, Hollowstar took it easy during her hunting, as the colder winds of Leafbare blew around her. She watched Honeyhawk and Acornswirl push ahead, keeping their eyes peeled for any sign of bigger prey. Hollowstar found herself looking closer to the ground, and found herself rewarded with a rare spot of color hidden among the bushes. With Leafbare only just starting, it seemed a few patches of vegetation hadn't gotten the memo that it wasn't their time anymore. A larger bug was taking advantage of the berries as well, and Hollowstar collected both berries and bugs, knowing that they could be useful, especially during the colder moons. (+1FP berries, +1FP bugs)

"Any luck with any prey up there?" Hollowstar called out, losing sight of Honeyhawk and Acornswirl for a few moments as they wandered further. She could still scent them, so she knew they weren't far, causing her no concern. The pair came around the corner looking frustrated, having no luck with anything else, shaking their heads at their leader. "No worries," Hollowstar said, "I found something small. We can always try again a different time, too."

Silence washed between the cats for a while longer as the trio kept on moving forward. As Honeyhawk and Acornswirl loosened up from their lack of prey, they started chattering about random topics, but mostly the kits. It made Hollowstar smile lightly, listening to her clanmates just be able to enjoy their presence. Yet, they still had a job to do too - and her sense of responsibility kept her head on a swivel. With the cold coming up, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to gather something for Dawnleaf," Hollowstar called out to remind Honeyhawk and Acornswirl. With a quick nod, a new mission revealed, all three split up for a little to find something useful. Though she searched as best she could, Hollowstar found her paws came back empty - but Acornswirl arrived back with a larger leaf, carrying a small seed. "Best not touch that," Hollowstar warned them both, eyeing it carefully. "But maybe it could come in handy at some point," she mused, allowing Acornswirl to carry it gently back to camp. (+1 foxglove seed)

"Alright, time to head back - I don't want to be out here too much longer and leave Dawnleaf alone." Hollowstar was met with more nods, both Honeyhawk and Acornswirl looking tired from their searches. While a few words were exchanged, the patrol was mostly uneventful for the way back and Hollowstar found herself lost in thought - at least until Honeyhawk came to a sudden stop, her tail out to stop Acornswirl and Hollowstar.
"Do you smell that?" Honeyhawk asked in a hushed hiss, causing Hollowstar's hairs to stand on end. She did, and she didn't like it - something bad was out there, perhaps searching for its own food, perhaps just passing through. Was it worth waiting to find out which?
(The patrol picks up the scent of a predator (coyote)! Does the patrol ignore it, or confront it?)

Someone, something... watching. The eyes were peering out from behind some taller rocks, squinting at the scene in front of them. The cold was biting the cat to the core, though at the moment they were too distracted to really care. Many words stuck out to the cat - clanmates, medicine cat, gathering... it meant there were more cats. More cats meant more safety, right? More cats meant a clan could be a home. The cat revealed themselves calmly, stepping out from behind their rocks with a gentle meow. "Hello," the cat said lowly, tail neutral. "I couldn't help but overhear you talking about a clan.... would we be able to join you?"
(A cat has asked to join the clan! ) edit: cat was returned to the random cat pool!

Flamesight and Copperfleck blinked in surprise at seeing a new cat. "Before you respond!" The cat interjected on themself, eyes widening. "I almost forgot - I found a few things in my travels, and of course I'd be happy to share with the clan." The cat steps to the side, revealing a couple of eggs and a small bundle of herbs. "For what it's worth, I just gathered these herbs, so they should be fresh and ready to use." It was a pretty easy decision to bring the cat back to camp, regardless of what they had with them or not, but the trio started walking back in that direction, all three amazed at the luck of finding each other. (+1FP songbird egg, +1FP songbird egg, +1 chamomile, +1 feverfew, +1 lamb's ear, +1 stick)

A rustle nearby, something else seeming to have been watching after the patrol lapsed into some silence. Flamesight felt overwhelmed, not knowing where all these cats were coming from, as another strange cat appeared, looking around at the stranger's pile of herbs. "Is that a stick?" the other cat asked, not even waiting for an answer. "I need it." Without so much as a hello, a goodbye, or an introduction, the cat left with the stick in his mouth. "What... was that?" Flamesight breathed, blinking over at the other two cats with her. Neither had an answer, though, and the cats were left with more questions, and no answers. (A strange cat (Feather of Jay) appeared out of nowhere and has stolen the stick!)

During the strange interaction, Flamesight and Copperfleck were so lost in thought about all that was going on that neither really was paying attention to where they were going. Flamesight had been about to look back to ask the new cat a question, and Copperfleck was forging ahead, his mind still stuck on that strange cat that stole their stick. In a brief moment of pain, Flamesight and Copperfleck found that they collided heads, Flamesight muttering an "ow!" while Copperfleck let out a sharp hiss of surprise. Just another story to tell about the strangest time out on patrol the cats could remember. (Flamesight and Copperfleck have each lost -25% health due to a head injury!)

The crunching of the leaves was the only sound for a few more lengths, the silence between Bugchirp and Birchclimb echoing the leaf crunching loudly enough that it almost covered up another sound - the scratching, chewing, and light squeaks of a mouse. Bugchirp flicked their ears, halting for a moment to get a clearer perception on where exactly the mouse was. Was this the reward and compensation that was starting to be promised? Bugchirp shook their head to clear their mind for a moment; they needed the clarity to hunt, not to continue to bog down their mind with doubts. Letting out a soft call to Birchclimb, who seemed content on another branch, surveying everything around her, Bugchirp dropped themself into a crouch, easily locating and bringing down the mouse. There were a couple of leaves, perhaps nibbled on a small bit, but still useful looking, that Bugchirp decided to retrieve as well. (+2FP mouse, +1 elder leaf, +1 tansy)

Birchclimb smiled serenely down at Bugchirp, their happiness at being out among the leaves and nature apparent, even with the slight chill of the Leafbare air. Both cats paused for a moment, resting from their journey so far, until Bugchirp saw Birchclimb's head whip around, her ears alert, their stance rigid in caution. "What is it?" Bugchirp called up to her as loudly as they dared, unsure of what Birchclimb was alerted too. In response, Birchclimb swiftly climbed back down her tree, nodding over behind a few thicker trunks.

"Another cat's approaching, from that direction. They'll be here soon. They were alone, but they seemed like they were looking for something."

As Birchclimb finished speaking, the cat in question came into Bugchirp's view. They had thick fur, and a worried gaze. "Hi there," the cat called out, not seeming worried at all that Bugchirp or Birchclimb were there. "I'm glad to see a couple others in the area. I actually need some help, if you'd be so kind; my friend is missing. Would you be willing to help me find them?" The cat paused for a moment, now fully turning her attention on the two cats. "Sorry for my manners, I'm a bit worried that something could have happened. My name is Furzetuft!"

(An NPC [Furzetuft] has asked the patrol for a favor! She needs help finding a cat - will the patrol choose to help?)

Nola had been on the rocks, looking out over the territory. It truly was a beautiful spot, and she felt at peace here. The only thing that broke her peace - at least before Lily came by - was a light scratch scratch scratch coming from beneath her rock. It tickled her ears, and she frowned. Could she put up with this for a little while longer? Was it worth moving? It had been so relaxing, tranquil, and calm to not have to front the burden of emotions. She did it for the sake of the clan, but even the most hard-working cats need rest. And so, with perhaps a hint of frustration, Nola turned her sights towards the scratching disrupting her rare moment of calm and peace. In one swift pounce, the shrew was no longer making irritating scratching noises, and the things it had collected nearby also proved to be a bounty for Nola. Leaves that could prove useful, and shiny things carried down from the river, added to the thought that it was a good decision to take care of the problem. (+2FP shrew, +1 lamb's ear, +1 raspberry leaf, +90 stardust)

Once Lily and Nola were on their way, Nola found herself watching cautiously for the unmistakable pelt of the fox that the pair had been warned was out here. A tuft of fur here, pawprints there, but thankfully Nola and Lily found that they were able to avoid the predator. It was the last thing either cat wanted to deal with, not while they were on such an important task. As they neared Hope's location, it appeared that the fox was gone, at least for now, the signs slowly disappearing as they traveled down the mountain. (The fox has left the territory!)

The cold was bothersome, but Lily couldn't bring herself to stop. The Heart needed Nola's help, and she wanted to get her to Hope as fast as possible. Even as she could feel the cold biting deeper into her fur, chilling her down to her very core, she wouldn't stop. She could see Nola give her a questioning glance, but Lily shook her head silently, forever moving forward, towards Hope, towards what they both came here for. This was something that could be dealt with later. (Lily has fallen ill! She will need one of the following to be healed; burdock root, chamomile, mallow leaf, or chervil. She will lose -10% HP for each post she remains sick/is not healed)

Throughout the ordeal, Nola felt her body shudder in the sheer pain, both mentally and physically, of what she had experienced for Hope. It was a lot for any cat to withstand, and she needed a break. She had flopped down the snowy, cold ground without thinking much of it, telling her side of what had just happened to Hope. They were there long enough that it seemed Nola's tail froze on the ground, the cat wincing slightly as she pried it from the frozen ground. Perhaps it would have been a good idea to keep her body moving as she explained what was happening, but neither cat had that on their minds at all. Shaking her body out, ignoring the pain, Nola following Lily back down the mountain, and feeling the pressure of time crushing around them. (Nola has received an injury! -25% HP lost, no posts of rest required)
