rings of woodsmoke billow from her lips when the flower slithered down the column of her throat. surely she had swallowed fire instead of earth? surely it had been the taste of hellfire that had scaled her lips, not the taste of soil rotted to the bone by the firstfruits of spring? firstfruits that had withered and waned as such as the moon, their once overripe flesh dripping then drooping… then sagging like faces when they begin to succumb to the whimsies of time.

“soul… wait! where are you going?” her feet moved of her own accord.

yes she had swallowed fire… because no flower could ever do anything like this. her fists pounded against the earth. soil and sweat and remnants of stars beaded upon her skin as the sickness thrashed from within.

for after the heavens opened up in bloodied retribution, a holy rebirth severed the blackness, all moonshine sin and dying stars sundered into a blackened powder, more charcoal than half god, half light. it was liquid petroleum on his skin, blackening the panes of his face so hardened resentment. he tilts his head as if he could swallow down the glass marble moon, all thin-skinnnd and luminous in the pits of his rage. hellfire on his lips as if he could’ve breathed fire. but when his lips parted alas, it was not fire on his tongue but the taste of earth and soil rotting in his mouth.

“darkthunder… are you alright? that was quite the fall you had!” bare-boned faces loomed above his, rimmed with silver by moonshine and the comings and goings of stars. he bared his teeth, jaundiced fangs snapping around the residual taste of rot. but not only did he see the bare-boned faces of the patrol, but the faint outline of shifting shadows that pressed in from behind. shadows with bloodmoon eyes and gossamer strands of salvia dripping from their maws.

Bristled orange and black fur caught the eyes of both Eve and Baby. Though Eve had intended for the prank to be harmless, given Baby's past fights going by smoothly, staring at a fox baring its fangs at you and audibly screaming was... a different energy. However, when she looked to the pink ball of chaos next to her, and saw her black orbs glinting curiously and mischievously, she knew one thing -

Victory was the only option. Baby would settle for no less - why should Eve?

"Hey Baby, have you ever fought a fox?" Eve inquired curiously, looking at the pink molly with an arched brow.

"Are ya really asking me that?"

"Well yeah, we haven't really talked beyond your initial prank." Eve stood firm, and Baby chuckled.

"Anything that can breathe, besides like... a shark or a whale, I've probably fought." Baby's chest puffed up proudly before her black eyes locked upon the fox, who had been peering between the two, assessing them. It seemed to have determined Eve was the weaker link, and lunged for her without warning.

"I'm not so bad myself, ya know." Eve said with a quiet giggle before leaping over the fox with ease, landing behind it. As the fox whirled around to meet her gaze, Eve swung her hind legs outward, the two of them striking the fox's side. It rolled a couple feet, and when it rose back to its paws, it appeared far angrier than it had before.

Baby had watched in awe, her eyes twinkling in admiration. Perhaps Eve had a little fire in her - but she already knew that with the boldness of her prank.

The fox, disgruntled and thrown off by Eve's strength, decided going for Baby was the better option. She was larger, but in a sense of chunkiness, making the fox believe the way she maneuvered would be far less fierce some than the previous move Eve had pulled out.

Baby smirked as the fox approached her. Though the orange and black cat wannabe ran at her with all its might, Baby couldn't look more unintimidated. "Baaaaad move, lil fox." She cooed with a tsk tsk of her tongue. Baby waited until the fox was in biting distance before stepping to the side, raising one of her paws to the air before slamming it down against the back of the fox's neck - like a little kitty karate chop.

"HIYAH!" Baby yelled dramatically - and yet, it appeared to somehow enhance the energy behind her strike to the neck. The fox stumbled forward with a yelp, quickly scrambling back to their feet with a disgruntled yip. Eve's maw was slightly parted in equal awe and shock as Baby's unconventional attack struck, and yet, the fear in the fox's eyes told her it had worked, and surprisingly well.

If the fox could talk, it would probably be saying some words that ChickenSmoothie won't allow me to repeat.

Baby peered at the fox for a moment longer before snickering, looking over at Eve. "Do you think you can throw me?"

"Throw you? Like, at the fox?"

"No, at a tree. Yes, at the fox!" Baby said with some sarcasm, but it was quickly followed by an evil sounding giggle. "Well can ya?"

"...Does it hurt when your tail is pulled on?" Eve asked with an inquisitive squint of her eyes.

"Nope!"

"Alrighty. I got you." Eve grasped Baby by the tail, and begun to spin in circles. Eventually, Baby was nothing more than a pink blur spiraling around Eve, and after a moment, Eve released her grasp on Baby's tail. Baby spiraled forward in a pink ball, hurling herself right at the fox.

The fox, frozen by fear, toppled over like a bowling pin does when a bowling ball hits it. The two tumbled together for a while before stopping, and Baby rose to her paws, looking down at the fox.

The fox looked as though it was going to pass out from how dizzy it was, but somehow, it found a way to its paws, and fearfully scurried away with one question in mind - what are those cats being fed!?

"HAHAHA! YOU BETTER RUN!" Baby yipped proudly before looking at Eve. "Can we do that again?"

"Not right now..." Eve stumbled to the ground from how dizzy she was, the spiral pupils in her eyes proving a bit ironic currently. "Maaaybe... maybe after I de-dizzy."

Baby giggled at the sight, her black eyes widening slightly when she felt something in her heart flutter. What was that sensation? Was it genuine love for the molly before her, who probably still wanted nothing to do with her? Baby quickly disregarded the emotion, looking back at Eve. "Thanks for entertaining my fun. I guess we should continue on?"

"Yeah..." Eve sauntered on ahead before stopping in her tracks. Her mind seemed to be just as puzzled as Baby's, and with a sigh, she turned back to Baby. "Sorry I was so hard on you. Pulling you into a trap with a fox wasn't cool, especially since none of those bees from your prank ended up stinging me."

Baby's ears perked up before she giggled. "Hey, Eve, do you see any scratches on me? I think our score is even." Baby reassured, which took Eve by surprise for a moment - but then she realized the molly before her was by far the most nonchalant, free flowing soul she had ever rested her gaze upon.

And she was grateful to be in her presence. With a sigh, she stepped to the side and ushered Baby ahead. "Lead the way. I bet Hope will be happy to see we're getting along."

"Ohhhh my gosh. That's why she sent us on patrol together!" Baby gasped, which was followed by a scoff. "She thought I wouldn't get along with you!"

"I think it was the other way around." Eve remarked before following closely behind Baby, a small smile making its way across her maw. She wanted to hold it back, but couldn't.
